Re: Can Humans do something better than Saiyans in this seri

Vegeta developed a superior version of the Kamehameha in less time than Earth's greatest master, while not knowing anything about ki as a mystical force. Are you referring to the Gallic Ho? I fail to see how it's superior. I think humans are typically more rational than Saiyans, and apparently mixi...

Re: Who is worse? Goku (Boo Saga) or Vegeta (Cell Saga)?

I'd have to say Cell arc Vegeta. I mean, he let Cell reach perfect form. How could Goku be any worse than that? Goku has some competitively heinous stuff, like when he made Gohan watch as his girlfriend gets beaten to death by Spopovich...because it'd get him disqualified. Is that what you took awa...

Re: Opinions on returning voice actors?

True, but I think, if FUNi continued in this direction, it would have been much different. I do often think of how things would've gone had they taken that route even with their limited resources. I think having a good script alone would've done wonders for the quality of the acting, also, not just...

Re: Who is worse? Goku (Boo Saga) or Vegeta (Cell Saga)?

"would it kill Goku to give some indication he gives a shit about anyone but himself?" He's always cared for other people. I don't see where this comes from. "until he hears of Goku's return, at which point he's willing to put aside literally all the development he's had over the cour...

Re: Opinions on returning voice actors?

Well...the acting is better, and he's gotten rid of the surfer accent, so I'm fine with the role now. I still dunno what went wrong with his performance in Blood Rubies though. Shameless advertising Actually, the first time Sabat dubbed Yamcha was really good. He didn't have a goofy voice like he d...

Re: Could Tenshinhan have learned Kaiou-ken?

And if you think about it, Ten learned the KiKoHo, which is not much different than the Kaio-Ken. Plus, wasn't Ten the only one to master THAT technique? I don't think it was a matter of him being the only one to do it, he was the only one that reckless. The technique has the ability to kill the us...

Re: Why remove the filler? (Kai)

I'm not sure why anyone would think Kai was "a little too slow" when it cuts out around half of DBZ. It's true that DBZ is better without the bulk of the filler, but I find a lot of it enjoyable. I especially like seeing Gohan progress as opposed to going from pampered kid to great fighte...

It might as well say on the cover, "Now As Poorly Acted and Inaccurate As Before 1999!"
Gotta disagree about the acting. If there's anything the Ocean dub did well, it was acting. However, I do agree that this is likely a hoax.

Re: School Age at the Time of the Funi Dub's Premiere and En

I was in sixth grade when DBZ first began airing in syndication, and a senior in high school at the end of the Buu arc. I lived in Japan for a couple years when I was younger and was one of the first to hear about Dragon Ball and DBZ, so when I saw DBZ on American TV, I was excited to see it. I reme...

Re: Why remove the filler? (Kai)

Some of the filler had to be kept in for timing reasons and some is almost impossible to edit around, like perhaps Bulma and the frog. The transformations aren't all that long, and people make too much of a big deal out of it. Having Goku just turn blond without build and tension feels weak. While G...

I figured that might be one of the reasons, or THE reason, but I still disagree with it because the performance suffers.

Re: Is anyone here against the re-dubbing in the season sets

If they were going to redub it, perhaps FUNi could've created another audio track for the original dub to preserve the history. Unless you do a complete redub, then the old performances will stand out like a sore thumb especially up against acting that has a few more years worth of experience. For i...

Re: Could Tenshinhan have learned Kaiou-ken?

I think Tenshinhan was the type who could've if Toriyama had cared enough about his b-team characters. One of the unfortunate things that happened as the series progressed is Tenshinhan became less and less relevant. He's one of my favorites and it was established that he was a VERY talented fighter...

Re: How did the re-cast characters turn out (in your opinion

On the contrary, Recoome sounds less "Herp Derp" than what was present in the uncut redub. In Kai, he's a much more tolerable performance. It's true. It's actually noticeably less derpy than the prior dub. Still not as good as I'd like, but definitely better. Maybe I need to go back and l...

Re: How did the re-cast characters turn out (in your opinion

My favorite English Gohan is still Saffron Henderson. She made Gohan sound young and cute and boyish. Clinkenbeard comes a close second. The only problem I have is that sometimes I'm aware that it's a woman voicing Gohan and it's not as high as a 4 year old's voice should sound. However, the sound o...

Re: Emotional Moments in DB

:eh: None. I mean, this is Dragon Ball we're talking about. There's been nothing that emotional about it yet. It's just not a emotional dramatic show/manga. The people that do get teary eyed from this show must be VERY emotional if this thread was created. I'm not very emotional, but if the moment ...

Re: Emotional Moments in DB

The moments that most make me well up are the end of the 22nd Tenkaichi Tournament, Goku reuniting with his grandfather, and Gohan losing his friend the dinosaur. The first two are such beautiful moments. When Gohan is smashing Goku on the ground he looks over and sees Goku's friends worried for him...

Re: How did the re-cast characters turn out (in your opinion

I'm so happy with not only the recasts, but the returning cast as well. They benefitted greatly from good scripts, and directors who now know what they are doing. The returning cast improved by leaps and bounds, and some changes have been made over the years that made the dub not just passable but e...
