Re: Goku and Bulma

I’ve always loved these two interacting. When Goku is young, it’s such an awesome contrast to see a city girl with this wild savage. Bulma is definitely not the best person, but she improves over the course of the series which I like to see reflected in how she interacts. They definitely have a sibl...

Re: Recurring Villains discussion

My whole concern has always been if a character is written well and has a purpose for returning. When that’s done, you can have a great storyline but written well and having purpose mean different things to different people. I personally think there was too big a gap between Freeza being killed by T...

Re: Does Chi-Chi have a job?

As others have stated, she has a pretty big job of simply being a homemaker but I have to admit, I have sometimes wondered why she didn't get a job herself, if she was so worried about money all the time. I suppose it may be that she is very traditional and I know it used to be (I don't know if it s...

Re: Dub lines that you find interesting.

Totally agree here, and it carries a subtext that Gohan has to REALLY take the situation seriously in order to unlock it. It also partially explains why Vegeta had such a hard time getting it, from a philosophical perspective. Honestly, for me, when I first saw the dub where Gohan transforms into S...

Re: Dub lines that you find interesting.

One of my favorite lines from the old dub still remains one of my favorites, despite knowing it was not accurate to the original script. When trying to get Gohan to transform in the Time Chamber, the dub has Goku say "The power comes in response to a need, not a desire." Much as I recogniz...

Re: Staging DBS as a midquel was a big mistake

Honestly, I have never understood the aversion to having adventures after the end of Z. From what I understand, Toriyama claims the characters are too old but I never really saw that issue. As a writer, you can pretty much make your characters do whatever you want. Plus, with the concept of the Drag...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread

I thought Sean and Chris would've altered the kiss scene around, oh well. Goku has kissed Chichi, so that entire exchange was a lie. Didn't they smooch during that scene when Goku recovers from the heart virus, and talks about ascending past a Super Saiyan. Master Roshi Is all sneaking up on them l...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Also on the subject of unpopular opinions I prefer the English dub of Mystical Adventure and I'll give you romance :shifty: You’re not alone. Especially on I’ll Give You Romance, I love the English version more. Not that I dislike the Japanese version but I do wish there was a longer version of the...

Re: Does the dub fix or add problems?

One thing I’ve noticed is that I’m enjoying the dub of Super a lot more than the sub. I really do have to agree with Diccolo-420 and GreatSaiyaJeff—Goku’s characterization is amended in the dub which makes him more enjoyable and not so one-note. It doesn’t fix all the problems I have with the series...

Re: Do you Dragon Ball can work as a Highschool story?

Could it work? Possibly but it’s just not my thing. I guess I prefer the most fantastic settings/scenarios than regular everyday life. Gohan’s antics at high school are my least favorite which is odd considering he’s my favorite character (though that may be more to do with my opinion of how his per...

Re: Things that grind your gears

Reductively boiling down Goku and Vegeta's love of battle due to them being Saiyans. This isn't a slam against anyone in particular, but it is something that bugs me. Plenty of human characters love battle like they do, they just don't have the power Goku and Vegeta do. This is true to some degree....

Re: Things that grind your gears

One thing that has bothered the crap out of me is the way saiyan/human hybrids act. They act way too "human" and almost nothing like saiyans. You'd think the saiyan part would over power their human instincts but it doesn't. They're like the most passive characters in the series. Characte...

Re: Goku and Chici technically not married?

Well, I'd imagine Goku and ChiChi were officially married, given that she opted to give her kids his surname, which if I recall correctly is rare in the Dragonball, and that she was able to be with him in the hospital without any issues. Plus, I just don't imagine why they wouldn't especially when C...

Re: The Son Family Speech patterns...

As far as I know, Chi-Chi and Goku speak like hicks. So the Japanese equivalent of rednecks. I'd imagine there's a stigma surrounding their accent in Japan just like in the US in regards to the southern accent. I don't know where you're from, but more rural accents generally being associated with b...

The Son Family Speech patterns...

So as I’m reexploring the Japanese version a bit, I have found this question popping up. I’m sure a similar question may have been raised before but I’m inquiring again. Naturally, ChiChi has a pretty distinct accent and Goku to some extent as well. Gohan and Goten speak pretty formally which I alwa...

Re: How durable are the Saiyans/Half Saiyans?

Good question. In my opinion, I don't really think Saiyans/half-Saiyans are that much more durable than the earthling fighters. In fact, most of their durability would come from energy enhancing their resistance to damage on their body parts. Just think of it as a barrier that is invisible, and tha...

Re: what do people think of SSBE

I don’t mind the “idea” of it in that I am actually a big fan of each Saiyan developing their own forms instead of each getting the same one—Gohan kind of mentions this in that he’ll be finding his own way to power instead of using his father’s way. I think that could be an interesting idea to have ...

Re: How durable are the Saiyans/Half Saiyans?

Even being stabbed like that doesn't keep Saiyans down completely. Vegeta still managed to jump back up and save Goku and Future Trunks despite being STABBED IN THE CHEST, as did Future Trunks and Goku in later fights. Saiyans are definitely not Freeza in terms of durability (but then again, who co...

Re: How durable are the Saiyans/Half Saiyans?

I tend to think that being concentrated for battle boosts their durability though whether that’s a physiological reason or due to concentration of ki, I’m unsure. Their tolerance for pain definitely seems to drop if they’re caught off guard. During a battle, seems like next to nothing phases them, o...
