Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
Toriyama's writing suffers most when he's trying too hard to be subversive. His ideas of subverting 'generic' ideas of right-and-wrong wind up becoming their own codified 'rule', so by trying to break the 'rules' of general writing and storytelling he's only further solidifying his story as followin...

Yes. Jako was the last comic that Toriyama drew himself, too.eledoremassis02 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 4:46 pm Didn't want to start a new thread but was the last time Goku showed up in a Toriyama-drawn manga Jaco?

Dragon Ball out here making the incredibly controversial political point that genocide and colonization is bad, actually . can't believe i had to learn something at school today (I was going to point out non-shounen comics have tons of politics in them, but then I remembered that even other JUMP co...

Re: Dragon Ball and Centrism disguised as "A Desire for works to stop being political"
He's talking about the context surrounding the times he was writing Dragon Ball, yes it may have influenced him and it is worthy of academic study but Toriyama was writing primarily for young boys who he didn't want to read that much into it. If a kid saw Freeza as a land shark it was from the infl...

Perhaps naming a white character Son Gokuu, based on Sun Wukong, is ill-conceived.

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
I think the issue is that Toriyama is a limited writer and his editor at the time of the Majin Buu didn't help him improve.

Anytime the X-Men are brought up I think back to the scene in X2: X-Men United , where Bobby's mom asks him "Have you tried not being a mutant," which any queer people could tell you is the most real fucking thing ever lol. X-Men bleeds woke lefty shit, and I love it ever so much for that.

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
I feel like Super Hero could easily be stretched out. It was already pretty long as-is and much more detailed plot-wise than Broly. But yeah, the rest of the arcs as they are do not feel like they would benefit by being stretched out. Unless there was a lot of additional plot elements. Like, for ex...

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
I do hope that they do episode adaptions of the movies for the next series. I think that would be a fun way to flesh those out and tell them differently. Not to mention getting a proper 2D animated adaptation of Super Hero... Watch the whole series be in 3D now... Hypothetically.... I doubt they wi...

I would not remember that this film exists if the cast and crew would just stop trying to aplogize for it.

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
In Japan yes, but the anime is generally more popular internationally. We saw how much of an event the Goku vs Jiren match was in the anime, which I'm sure Shueisha noticed, and started asking how would they be able to compete with that. Okay, but that's no reason for there to be no weekly anime be...

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
My understanding was that Shueisha didn't want the Super anime to return as they feared it would hurt their manga sales, some within the company were even sick of Akio Iyoku being too controlling of the Dragon Ball franchise as reported here and he declined offers to be moved to a non-Dragon Ball r...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
This is just speculation, but in light of recent events, I wonder if Daima is the way it is because Toriyama went into it knowing it would likely be the final Dragon Ball thing he worked on. Daima heavily drawing from the Buu arc, the final arc of the manga, based on what we've seen thus far would ...

Shueisha and Toei should pay us for singing the praising of their comics and cartoons in this forum for the past 18 (eighteen) years, actually. Yeah, you know, if it's even a fraction of a penny per post, that could still add up to a sizable chunk of a marketing budget  As the most cute and pe...

What's wrong with it? I'm serious. I'm amazed by the AI's posibilities, but I don't understand. Explain it to me like I'm five years old, please. Guy's posted his tribute on YouTube meaning no harm. AI is a great tool, but to celebrate an artist with AI is like serving McDonalds at the funeral of a...

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
I definitely think that the production committee members are going to push for more Dragon Ball to be created, but I am doubtful that a central franchise figure will be chosen to replace Toriyama. I think that there will be some synergy on the part of the marketing a new animated series post-Daima, ...
