Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
These pages are from the pamphlet for the release of Movie 8 at the Toei Anime Fair. I was curious if they make any correlation to the original story with Cell and how the characters obtained their powers, or if they just base it as a standalone story/alternate universe sort of thing: There's reall...

I believe he said in the manga he wouldn't be able to use it for some time. No, he says that after using the technique, he can't use it again for some time. He says nothing about currently being unable to use it. It's the difference between saying "I can't swim an hour after eating" and &...

Re: Did Kami teach Goku to fly?
Viz probably added the "he learned to fly" part in order to make it clearer for readers who wouldn't know offhand what Bukujutsu was.

So yeah, in this version U7's Kaioshin is off visiting Gowasu and they have Zamasu spar against Kibito. I guess because they're both in the "servant" role, so why not pit them against each other like Pokémon? Anyway, Gowasu congratulates U7 Kaioshin for taking care of Majin Boo, but U7 Kai...

Re: Episode #0411 (04 September 2016)
If people derive pleasure from throwing manga quotes about strength at each other and discussing who hits the hardest, more power to them. Oh believe me, they have power out the wazoo. They are in no need of further power. Their supply on that score is amply sufficient. And if there were an unlimit...

Re: Episode #0411 (04 September 2016)
The big counterpoint to the whole "the series is all about fighting!" argument in that, yeah, the series is all about fighting rather than power scaling in any sense beyond going "wow look at how strong this strong new character is! Zowie!" Exhibit A, look at Mike and Ajay's disc...

Re: Theories On the Origin of Black
His emphasis of "doushi" (同士) over "nakama" (仲間), functionally identical words, likely implies a more kindred bond than simple associates. The root of "doushi," the first character, is "same," whereas "nakama" slightly privileges the idea of two peo...

Re: Really Old Characters
This confuses me. He's vague about it, then he says he drank it, then he says he didn't... but he's still alive and well by, say, GT ? He presumably owes his long life to something other than any elixir (and, though long-lived, can still be killed). Most likely it's due to his martial arts training...

Re: Really Old Characters
As for the hundred-year age difference between Uranai Baba and Kame-Sennin (is this ever stated in the series?) In the manga, it's just said that Kame-sennin climbed Karin Tower about 300 years ago (so he's at least that old), and no information on Uranai Baba's age is given. The anime though adds ...

Re: Is it called Rose or Rosé?
As Ajay said, it's written in Japanese as ロゼ/ roze , pronounced as "ro-zay". We've known this from Day 1, back when we simply had an unconfirmed episode title mentioning the form's name. There was never any question that this would be the way characters would pronounce it on the show, in J...

Re: When Did Kaioshin Learn the Kai-Kai Technique?
Oddly, in DBZ ep.241 it actually does sound like Kaioshin's the one to say "Kai-Kai" when they take Gohan off to the Kaioshin Realm. An anime-only thing, and it goes against him later identifying it as Kibito's technique, but there you have it. Or am I simply mishearing?

Anyway, it's not talking about the person(s) that killed her, but rather the person(s) who found her body. I don't really see why it would matter one way or the other if one person or multiple people found her. No, it's saying that she was "spotted" when she went out to clean dust off the...

Re: DB Parody in "One-Punch Man"
As already noted, the core concept behind Vaccine Man is a parody of Baikinman, just as Saitama started off as a parody of Anpanman (the hero who fights Baikinman). Baikin="germs" in Japanese, and he's all about spreading germs, so the joke is that Vaccine Man is the mirror opposite...whil...

Re: So it seems universe 10 has an Elder Kaioshin aswell..
After looking at it more closely, only the Viz translation uses the term "mortal"; Herms & Steve Simmons express it as "lower being". So you're probably right. Yeah, "mortal" is Viz's way of handling DB's habit of using ningen /"human" as a catch-all term...

Re: "The most accurate subtitle track ever"?
"Senzu bean" is really just part of a greater trend in Simmons' subtitles. Elsewhere there's mention of the "Bukujutsu technique" (Levitation Technique technique) and "Kikoha blasts" (Ki-Control Blast blasts). It seems like his method for leaving proper nouns untranslat...
