DBZ's TV Ratings reign is over.

After seemingly being unstoppable no matter what, getting good ratings no matter where it was aired, last week's Toonami airings ABSOLUTELY TANKED. These have to be the worst ratings the franchise has ever gotten. I think MeTV could still pull it off and they are going to do an animation channel, bu...

Re: Was Dragon Ball syndicated in any non-US territories?

I dont think the concept of Syndication exists outside the USA. In most countries, All Network affiliates just air a solid schedule that is decided by the network and not left up to the affiliates themselves. There DID come a Point where a single Affiliate was so popular in Paraguay they became a wh...

Re: Your watching experience on Toonami

I may find Toonami hideously overrated, but GOD ITS RATINGS WERE AWESOME. And they SURE knew how to advertise a show. Only Nickelodeon built an empire solely on the quality of its advertising.

Re: AB Video to release original Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray

I have something to give hope to the situation. Toei Animation Europe proudly boasts about AB Groupe as a licensee. If they were crossed or angry at them they would not do that.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

Something Masenko Ha said has me thinking, Saban kept the halos unedited, but the "Other Dimension" thing conveniently removed theHeaven/Hell/Afterlife element, and since The CW (Much easier than saying 4kids/Saban Brands)dub used Other World and thus they felt the need to make clear to th...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain

Alright, look, perhaps “strategy” wasn’t the best word to use. My initial point was only ever that being a “good fighter” doesn’t really matter in Dragon Ball, because more often than not, having a high power level trumps actual fighting skill. Freeza or Raditz not being “skilled fighters,” makes v...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain

Fights in the later parts of Dragon Ball are flashy light shows where the winner is the one with the higher power level. I wouldn’t really call that “martial arts.” The fighting is too simplistic. There’s not really any sense that skill or strategy actually matter. There's not enough strategy in th...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain

The topic creator is right, the whole transformation thing is silly, contrived and shoddily written... But it is mega popular and most people loved it. Now I AM NOT saying popular equals good, but if you wanna be that stringent you shouldnt be reading Dragon Ball. Its not War And Peace or Anna Karen...

I love how completely shamelessly Funimation stabbed OG Dragon Ball in the back.

Today I learned that Bryan Cranston acted on several anime dubs. I knew about Gatchaman Fighter but not the Little Women anime.

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2

I would argue that the Pokemon TV anime (plural) is not only technically better than the Dragon Ball TV anime (plural), but it is sub-culturally more important. The contribution to the franchise by its various staff since 1997 has made it a technical achievement, and a storytelling achievement thro...

Re: Dubs you've been actively following

The real irony about the Toonzai/Vortexx airings (which I believe the Kanzenshuu staff pointed out in a podcast) was the break for new episodes after Kai episode 52 when they were rerunning the earlier episodes for months. Fans at the time were joking that Saban can't count past 53  . There wa...

Re: Dubs you've been actively following

Ironically I went straight to the CW4Kids version and not the version I not only grew up with but is the version that I watch most constantly. If its a dub I seek out it is the CW4Kids Kai dub, but if it is the one I consume the most its the LATIN AMERICAN ONE.

The CW4Kids dub. I love it and I will never let MasenkoHa forget this is the one dub where he got his wish of people dying "Going into other world" instead of the more unweildy "Next Dimension".

Re: Underrated dubs?

And, as I've mentioned with the example of the Blue Water dubs Ocean write their own scripts based on direct translations from the Japanese version. Westwood Z was the exception because they were under pressure to sell their dub to networks. I urge anyone who hasn't done so to compare Blue Water sc...

Re: Underrated dubs?

That's why I'm looking forward to the Ocean Kai dub because if FUNi redeemed themselves from their horrible Z dub with Kai, maybe the Ocean cast gave all they've got with their Kai dub. And, as I've mentioned with the example of the Blue Water dubs Ocean write their own scripts based on direct tran...
