Holy crap, the Ocean dub is terrible. Hey, Jerseymilk (or anyone else in Canada) did YTV use the Ocean dub or the FUNi Texas dub? I really don't remember that as Vegeta's voice.

I would say that Mr. Satan was based off Frank Dux. I know that name. I know you're right. I think it's to do with the style. Toriyama studied cartoons which resulted in his cartoon-ish style. Though many otakus try and copy the anime style, I think that the cartoon style would best appeal to a Japanese audience as they only see anime styles. I've always been under the impression that Namekians are tree-like. They require only water, they reproduce by themselves, they live for hundreds of years, they can regrow limbs, even their appearence is plant-like (green and tall).
