I have always wondered what inspired FUNi to reach the "Linda Young version" of Freeza

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 54 - DBZ 75-79 (CURRENT WEEK)
Watching these again I have to appreciate how much thought Toriyama put in to preventing the Dragon Balls from resolving the Freeza fight before it begins. Porunga can grant 3 wishes, but in exchange he can't quite do everything, and he certainly cannot intuit the unspoken details of your wishes! :l...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 12/31/20!)
There have been so many "topical" episodes for the Buu arc so far, but then Buu's continuous story swerving really invites it. I didn't expect the Videl vs Spopovitch video to open with "Do you ever realize the Tenkaichi Buodkai has no rules?" I've always appreciated just ...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 53 - DBZ Movie 4 (CURRENT WEEK)
I've been following the rewatch threads a bit but have never posted and just want to say I appreciate Robo and KBABZ doing so much with the trivia sections, they are worth the stop by by themselves. I do agree with Slug being the first sign of the initial DBZ movie formula wearing out its welcome, a...

Hopefully not. Do we know what format FUNi received their Dragon Box footage in?FPSSJ4_Goku wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 2:51 pm You know they could just take the Dragon Boxes' footage and digitally upscale *that*...but no. FUNimation just has to screw us over once again.

Re: The Path to Piccolo's Redemption
The question for me has always been how much of his own man Piccolo Jr. is- and his ceding his tournament loss to Goku and the resulting detente has never struck me as something old King Piccolo would have settled for. And in that case, if Piccolo isn't a 1:1 of his daddy, then suddenly we have a ch...

Re: Can we talk about the Funimation Movie Soundtracks?
I need to give the dubs with the licensed music another listen, but I recall thinking they didn't fit with Dragon Balls bright and round aesthetic, even if some of the movies that used them were in very dim battlefields! I do like some of Mark Menza's tunes for the later movies, Gogeta's theme, the ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 Competitive Tier List
I do appreciate Budokai breakdowns, as I always found the games so stiff (until Shin Budokai, at least) and all the characters being built from a handful of skeletons so obvious that I couldn't find meaningful ways to compare them.

Re: Anyone else think BT2 had one of the worst story modes of any of these games?
There is something to be said for Tenkaichi 2's being "thorough to a fault", the few characters it was lacking aside. In glut of of endless Dragon Ball games that is a small honor to take. T3's looks a lot smaller at first, but all the optional scene transitions packed into each fight make...

As one who somehow finds little fun Mario Kart and much prefers Diddy Kong Racing's priorities, I appreciate that analogy. Bojack's an enjoyable movie, but it's always been top of the middle at best to me. You have the very novel first act, great artwork all around, and some of the widest use...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 18 - DB movie 2 (CURRENT WEEK)
Oh good timing, I finally got around to this and Path to Power last week. Goku and Krillin were great start to finish, the movie communicates a lot with a little and all the jokes at Krillin's expense in particular land squarely. You think the cut to Krillin on the buffalo is going to be a reprieve ...

Probably wealthy but weak, or at least not superhuman, aliens that use him to get what they want. We just don't need to see any of them since its just a motive for the pirates and mercenaries our characters are actually fighting. It does strike me as a deliberately dark notion whenever I see that ma...

Re: So, did DBZ Movie 14, and everything after scratched your DB itch?
The notion of an "itch" really has two different meanings; what you want in a Dragon Ball follow up from as a story, and the feelings and experiences that that brings, to go with however you remember experiencing the original stuff at the time. For the latter, having brand new Dragon Ball ...

Re: Is it possible to improve the image of Dragon Box?
The Amazon Video Japan presentation of the movies just makes me sad now, because when they were coming out it looked like the movies had finally gotten "their due"- some of them at least. Then the blu-rays hit and they're a more benign version of what Funi's doing.

I do not recall FUNi explicitly mentioning cost as a barrier to the Level sets, and when asked point blank in the Kanzenshuu user questions segment (where would I find that? I've found it again before but don't know what category is falls under) the respondent again said it was a number of things. T...

Re: All in all, are you happy the revival happened?
I was and firmly am in the mindset that Dragon Ball ended in 1995~6 and the all subsequent material is just extra, so that really dampens any desire of mine to get too flustered about anything. The social element of taking in new Dragon Ball material at the same time the world over is probably the b...
