Re: Japanese For "Dragon"?

It could also simply be 神龙. Just for completion's sake.

Re: Name Pun Round-up

In response to the thread in the questions forum on name puns, I’ve decided to start a thread compiling every known name pun. This is draft one. It’s not proofread at all, isn’t very well organized, and of course isn’t perfectly complete. So I want people to point out who/what is missing or needs e...

Re: Say you had kids......

I can think of much weirder names. Apple. Comfort. Dreama. Nimrod . Scholastica. And yes, those are all real names.. Ya know I always found it funny that Nimrod gets used often as an example of a bad name. The name is actually from the bible and the person was actually very wise and respectable. An...

Re: Say you had kids......

I wouldn't name my children after any Dragon Ball character. I'm not that cruel. Or that much of a weaboo. Which, clearly, makes you a far grander and righteous anime fan than anyone else on the planet. Replace "Dragon Ball character" with "sports figure" and let's talk again. I...

Re: Say you had kids......

I guess another good name for a kid could very possibly be Tao after Tao Pai Pai. Come to think of it, I think that is an actual name.

Also the name of a major religion too.

Re: Say you had kids......

I forgot all about that! How could I have forgotten; I've only been referring to Mr. Satan as Mark since the name was revealed! >_O I have both an uncle and a cousin named Mark though, so I wouldn't use that. :p Can you imagine that scenario....."Mom, Dad, I know that you told me not t...

Re: Say you had kids......

No need to imagine a situation... plenty members here do have kids, or perhaps will in the near future. Some of us are, like, 60 years old. As far as I know, Daimao 's kid is named "Ma Jr." I refuse to accept any truth otherwise. Thats hilarious! Boy, he must have one accepting wife!

Say you had kids......

Ok, lets say that everyone on that frequents this forum has bore at least one child. My multi-layered question is; which dragonball name(s) do you think are most acceptable in real life? And if there are any, which one(s) would you choose if any at all? I bet there are a couple of hardcore (or crazy...

Re: Shenlong's Powers

It's just that the romanizations you put forth for Shenlong are, well, unusual. 神龍 is written in Chinese (that's why it's shen long and not shin ryu . The characters are trying to pronounce the name as Shenlong but because of the restrictions of Japanese phonemes it becomes Shen r o n . Shen r o ng...

Re: Chi or ki?

I don't get it. So you believe that qi is mystical and that Japanese people are just imitators? Huh? How is healing someone or themselves using qi mystical? If you have ever practiced Taiji Quan or Qi Gong for any amount you would know that eventually the concept of qi is layed heavily upon you and...

Re: Chi or ki?

Thanks, Mike. I'll take it from here and explain myself. The person starting this thread wanted to know the difference between ki and qi (which I sometimes refer to as chi like the VIZ manga does) and which is more closely related to Dragonball. What I said applies because I further clarified that ...

Re: Chi or ki?

Dude , the question at the beginning of this thread was in fact asking a DB in-universe question regarding ki, or qi(chi) and last time I checked in DB everything revolves around said concept. So for you to start talking about science (which is only a theory in itself-but thats another subject) in ...

Re: Chi or ki?

Am I the only one that gets a headache when I see "Ki" or "Chi" referred to as if it's some measurable tangible force instead of an abstract metaphysical concept that has as much scientific credibility as Thetans?. Actually, I get a headache when qi is referred to as a metaphysi...

Re: Dragon Ball characters' martial arts

Android 17 - Kung Fu ; based on the strikes and fighting stances he uses and Judo ; based on his grappling and from an anime scene against Piccolo, where he uses an Ippon Seoinage . Nappa - Muay Boran ; he throws each strike with full force and intent to kill, barely wasting any time to finish his ...

Re: Chi or ki?

Look up Taiji Quan Tai Chi Chuan is a bad English translation coupled with the fact that Taiji doesn't have anything to do with qi or "chi" but its direct translation is something to the effect of "Ultimate Supreme Fist"-the word "chi" isn't even in the martial art at ...

Re: Chi or ki?

Dragonball's idea of ki isn't exactly realistic and it seems to take bits and pieces of both the Chinese outlook and Japanese outlook. I use "Chi" when speaking because it keeps people from confusing it with "key" or mispronouncing it as "kai." Just out of curiosity, w...

Re: Chi or ki?

Between "chi" and "ki, is there "correct" term for the energy in DB? I've heard that they both mean practically the same, but "chi" is the Chinese word for the energy DB and "ki" is the Japanese. Because Dragon Ball is a Japanese manga, would it be "...

Re: Dragon Ball characters' martial arts

Am I really confused, or am I the only one who gets what the question was? So to clarify things my question isn't what type of martial art do the Z-senshi and beyond (villains as well) actually use in the manga/anime, but rather, based on your opinions and the characters personalities what martial ...
