Re: Just how well known is Dragon Ball/Z with the general public?
Aside from FUNi's adaptation, I think it's pretty niche. The dub did pave the way for relatively accurate versions though, & those are relatively popular nowadays. As ABED said, not exactly mainstream (currently at least) but still pretty big for anime. As for the Pokemon comparison - the thing ...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread
Derek Stephen Prince is a great choice. I'm excited to see how he'll compare to Ayres (Pity we still haven't seen Tockar's take in Ocean Kai). I agree, although I knew it wasn't going to happen as with all the Ocean cast (especially Richard Ian Cox as I can't even begin to describe my curiosity abo...

Re: So what do you like about the funi dubs?
I like that I can understand the dialog and that I have a sentimental attachment to the original dub. I'm not joking and I'm not trying to make a joke about how it being in English is the only good thing about the dub; I legitimately like to watch the dub because I can understand it without reading...

(Took me awhile to respond to this & a lot of good posts have come up in between; I dont want to bloat the post, because I feel like this is a really fantastic thread that I'd hate to derail - Also, I'm not sure how Asperger's is an insult or a discreditation. That's not how that works) All SJW ...

Re: Do Men Relate to the Male Characters of Dragon Ball?
This could make for an interesting thread; however I feel like perhaps it could do with a more universally inclusive title. More like "do you relate to any DB characters as you feel represent your gender?" or such. Personally I guess I like Gohan; he's pretty much how I imagine "lawfu...

Re: Dragon Ball and "Feminism"
My basic idea is that while I feel Toriyama generally is more progressive than most in his mindset, you can kind of tell the guy has anxiety issues & doesn't get out that much. I don't think that's a stretch for me to say? I think he does sort of sympathize with women's treatment in Japan, &...

https://www.facebook.com/Derek.Stephen.Prince/posts/743235385854680 Derek Stephen Prince is Freeza. http://i.imgur.com/YRZLkFC.gif Seriously though, is this guy a good VA? EDIT: Okay. I did quick search on the internet and from the shows I'm familiar with, he's voiced Shino from Naurto and Uryu fro...

Re: What made you switch over to the Japanese version?
One thing I'm going to note here is that the inevitable discussion & implication of "the dub is terrible & not the same thing" feels like more of an English-language/centric discussion. As obvious as that is, I feel it is not really universal & is certainly worth pointing out, ...

Re: Original voice actors (声優) (青二プロダクション)
Really dig this set of photos & I appreciate the throwback. I've finally gotten around to MGS recently & Koji Totani definitely made a great character in Revolver Ocelot. He was great as Leon in Dead or Alive too. Junpei Takiguchi was probably the best voice in that rather garbage Sonic OVA ...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread
On Toonami India's Facebook page, it says that "season 2" airs in the summer (friend of mine over on BTVA mentioned this in the forums). So give it a few weeks. Also, if I didn't mention it earlier, Richard Epcar - Batou, Jigen, Myotismon, Bobobobobobbo, Injustice Joker (on his interview w...

Re: Could you have tolerated Linda Young in Kai onward?
A lot of people hate Recoome's Funimation voice. It's not rare to see hatred for that voice. Aside from a few script changes, the Kai script is pretty accurate. I was thinking of the hold-overs in term mistranslations, plus all of the voices they pretty much made up from the picture according to th...

Re: Could you have tolerated Linda Young in Kai onward?
(So I wanted to post this earlier in my other comment, but my net went out so I couldnt edit it later.) ...Personally, while I think that the recent Freeza is one of the only objectively good castings in FUNi's DB dub, I think that if the idea of having Freeza voiced by a man had never been brought ...

Re: Could you have tolerated Linda Young in Kai onward?
If Young hadn't been recast, I might not have bothered with Kai. You say that, but it would still be the best dub by far. Would you really pass on it just because one villain, albeit an iconic one, had a voice that didn't perfectly reflect the character? I don't think anyone could honestly say they...

Re: Is Dragon Ball Z Kai any good?
Who's "they"? The company in charge was 4Kids, & they almost never released the Japanese versions There were never plans to release it in Japan though; it is for all intents & purposes an American show, in the same way that the Thundercats anime is an American show. Kai 2.0 you co...

Re: Is Dragon Ball Z Kai any good?
I'm sure it would have seen Japanese release in some format eventually, but Japanese dubs of anime not intended to be released in japan aren't unheard of Sonic X's "third season", the Metarex arc, was also created solely to be used internationally due to the success of overseas releases, ...

What the heck is PPGZ? I come to this forum almost every day and have never heard of it. PowerPuffGirls Z is an anime adaptation of PowerPuffGirls. While I'm at it...
