Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
The criticism of Ocean's voice cast being too "cartoony" never fails to amuse me a little bit. The guys making such complaints are so used to hearing poor or unenthusiastic voice work in dubbed anime that whenever something of actual professional quality comes along (similar to that of car...

Re: They never fixed the trunks warning of 19+20 thing?
Toriyama has never cared to fix plot holes. Why is this one any different than many other plot holes. He fixed a plothole in the Saiyan arc where Gohan and Krillin talk to each other like they've only just met before fighting the Saiyans. The dialogue was altered in the collected release of the man...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread
According to this guy, it's the worst Dragon Ball Super dub. I can sort of see why, although it doesn't seem THAT bad. God, what a terrible video. Love how he made it personal with Lex Lang by bringing up his name and face all the time, you KNOW some of the retarded Funi fans watching are going to ...

And they got the tweet clip out in record time. Wonder if they'll upload THIS ONE to YouTube in the next few days as well... https://twitter.com/FUNimation/status/942244216356331521 "Your father was an average fighter, but a BRILLIANT scientist." to "This is why you're weak!" GR...

I think I'll join in on this too.
I've never actually seen a full episode of Z in Japanese, so I think it's about time I gave the original version a chance.

Re: Question about Recast
I hate that Chris Sabat of all people ended up playing Burter in the redub. I know that Mignogna and Britten probably weren't available, but I wish Funimation wasn't so cheap as to just give Sabat another role just because he could do a bad impression of the character. Just like the good old days, I...

Re: Is being able to watch original DBZ in a non-cropped format for a reasonable price too much to ask?
For Funimation, at least, yes it is! "But why Z though, when the original Dragon Ball and GT at least get to keep their proper aspect ratios?!" The answer, if you ask me, lies in what medium Funimation owns the 3 shows in. As far as DB and GT go (as well as Z up until the "orange bric...

Re: Would you consider Goku manly? If not who are the manly characters in Dragon Ball?
I don't think Goku's that manly, he's pretty immature and childish in pretty much all aspects but his physical abilities and form. Vegeta doesn't strike me as "manly" either, he's a massive prick who kills helpless opponents without hesitation and always whinges when there's someone out th...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
For DB, I believe AB Groupe had Blue Water use translated French scripts to save money. The UK/Canadian dub of DB is a strange case indeed. For the later half of the series they do seem to be using a completely different script to Funi (probably the French version, which was far more accurate. Exam...

Re: What is the lamest thing to come out of modern DBZ?
I was going to say I only enjoy Z out of nostalgia, but I almost forgot I never saw anything past the Saban dub as a kid, but I can sit down and watch even the Boo saga at any time. The weird thing is, I don't think Z is objectively that good of a show either, but I still find it a million times mor...

I know what you mean. I wish I could just switch my brain off and enjoy cool flashy dudes fighting each other again.TheBigBoy wrote: Most of the issues that I and others have with "modern DBZ" would be happily overlooked were I a kid and not an overly analytical adult.

Even though this thing still has a long way to go before it gets on the air, I can't help but get really bloody excited! Thanks to all of you who contributed to getting word of this dub around, now we can only hope that the commissioner of the dub is as enthusiastic about getting the show to air as ...

Do you have a particular fondness for Dragon Ball and its style over other similar series you've worked on?
If so, what do you think makes Dragon Ball and its aesthetics stand out and resonate so strongly with so many fans?

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
As for Gotenks, he couldn't last the duration of the tournament, and once he split into two people, he could be disqualified, or worst case, the universe could be disqualified. Not to mention that Gotenks has fundamental character flaws, and has never won a single battle because of them, despite hi...

they didn't even acknowledge that Gotenks exists. "Oh, but Gotenks is waaay to risky and uncooperative!" And Freeza isn't?! Besides, it could be a good opportunity to give Gotenks some kind of development, maybe he had to be trained or something? I don't know, anything's better than FREEZ...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Yeah, I don't think I explained myself well. Of course "interactions" are essential to a story, how are we supposed to know anything about the characters if they don't talk? What I'm taking issue with are interactions for interaction's sake, people are just looking forward to Freeza intera...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
So, if an entire arc consisted of characters talking to each other, that would be a story? Okay, sure. If seeing your "favourite" characters "interacting" is what you like to see in entertainment, eat it up. But I actually want to see an engaging plot unfold, and I wouldn't be ex...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I cannot, for the life of me, understand this "interaction" crap. Why do people want characters interacting with each other over a good story? Yeah, Freeza talked to Goku like how Freeza would talk to Goku, so what? Oh boy, Freeza's going to be really wacky having to work with all these fo...

Re: Dragon Ball and "Feminism"
That's fair. The problem I have with using the term "representation" is I think it can lead to people thinking characters have to represent some group, especially minority/underprivilaged characters. I want well written characters, whatever that means. Just like male characters can be sad...
