I understand how Kami could forget his own origins because he was a baby. But when Goku landed on Earth, Kami was already god for hundreds of years and should have had his eye on things like that.

As god he can probably tell this person isn't a human. He should have known about the alien space pod landing as soon as it reached Earth as well.

It was already explained in interviews that Yamoshi's spirit went into Goku and helped him achieve the god form. Saiyans can do this because of Yamoshi.
