Dub Filters

From discussion in another thread, people were curious what terms exactly you guys filtered to show the original name over the dub.

Tien, Hercule, Turles, Frieza, Pikkon, Fasha.

What else?

I miss spelling the names like Gokou and Saiyajin.

The filter for Hercule should really be changed. Bare minimum, change the filter to his actual name. If i'm writing a story, i'm not gonna write people praising a guy named Satan all the time.

That, and i think Hercule is a superior name than his japanese name

Legitimate or reasonable adaptations of names are valid.

Things like Krillin and Jeice are legitimate adaptations, and are therefore, not filtered. Freeza with an "i" is somewhat of an exception, but that spelling brings about some of its own issues, such as how unnecessary it is, and how often misspelled it is.

And why do you think it's obvious who the character is? This forum gets a lot of international traffic. Someone from another country who had never been subjected to FUNimation's dub would have absolutely no idea who Hercule is if they saw it typed out. It's so radically different from his actual name. Hell, I am familiar with FUNimation's dub, and when I first saw people talking about "Spike" I had no idea who the hell they were talking about. When I hear the name Korin, it actually takes me a moment to realize they're talking about Karin.

Spike isn't near as prominent as Hercule is. And fair point to that, but in that case, Filter it to his actual name.

Hercule is an especially egregious case because there is a huge reason why someone might choose to use the dub name even if they prefer the sub. His name is literally Satan. Do you realise how uncomfortable it might be for a christian to time that?
