Opinions on Pieces of Music - V3!

Post by jpdbzrulz4sure » Thu Apr 24, 2014 11:32 pm

Just for fun, I thought I'd start a third round of the "Opinions on Pieces of Music" game. (The original two for reference: 1, 2)

The rules are the same as before. Review the piece of music designated by the above poster, then link to another piece of music for the next person to review.

To start off: M115 (?) Scatterbrained

Aye yes, I remember the previous thread, and even though I only posted like once, I liked the idea of it. So here we go.

Very upbeat piece. I love the xylophones(?) in accordance with the trumpets, which just sounds chaotic and so energetic. Perfect for a short and funny chase or action scene.

Now this. I don't know the name of it because it was never released unfortunately.

An awesome suspense builder. Gotta love that timpani (*da-da-dumm*) and that bell-like sound (what exactly is that?). Listening to that track, you know something's about to go down.

I love it. The start feels very suspense-like and the middle part, mixing those xylophones with what are trumpets too. The end part feels a bit more generic to me, but I still like it.

It's time for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osEnwTn4TSY TheZestanor had ripped it too, and he had given a M-number to it, but he deleted it because he said that he was going to improve it.

Wow, that piece was never released? For me, it's always been one of the most memorable tracks in the series. If I recall correctly, there's another piece that starts off in a similar fashion to this one, except it sort of loops its introduction...anyone know which one I'm talking about? Anyway, I always think it's gonna be this one, but then it turns out to be the other one.

Oh man, this thread brings back memories.

Always liked that piece and the DB 10th Anniversary movie's soundtrack. It's a good song that encompasses what the original Dragon Ball is: fantastical with Oriental themes. Good prelude to a great movie.

Next piece:

A dark and suspenseful piece of music, with awesome string work. Great track for building tension for when something bad happens.

Looks like that piece was used a lot for Bora. I think it's an appropriate piece to use for the love between Bora and Upa, father and son. Very warmhearted and comforting. The boinging noise is a little strange for this piece, but it wasn't completely offsetting. Great piece overall.

Since the 25th anniversary of Dragon Ball Z happened yesterday, let's do a piece from Episode 1 of Dragon Ball Z:

A beautiful and pure melody that fits perfectly for child Gohan and his innocent nature.

Sinister and menacing, which fits the character and scene it's used for.

Sounds like the type of track that would be used toward the end of an episode to build suspense for what'll happen in the next episode.

Very nostalgic sounding, which makes sense with the title it has. I like the instrumental work, especially the stringed instruments.

Very energetic and great for battle or chase scenes, particularly involving Kuririn, since it's his leitmotif.

I don't know, but this is such a run-of-the-mill piece, I must have heard variations of it almost everywhere. This jazzy saxophone is just typical of scenes that are supposed to be "sexy". I like it though.

Next: I usually associate this with Cell.

Yeah, definitely makes me think of Cell too. It's funny when the score by this point was largely being written for the movies, they still managed to get a much more electronic sound to the soundtrack when the Cell arc started.

Really wish they'd used this piece more. I think it only shows up twice in the series: for Lunch's intro and Giran's filler scene, but I love old-timey piano so much.

Yeah, I love the old-timey sound of that piano track, too, and agree that it should've been used more.

Looks like it was only used a handful of times in Dragon Ball, but it's a good piece to use for the death of Kuririn. It's very mysterious sounding, like something you'd hear in a whodunit.

A lovely trumpet piece and great for those moments after the battle is over and the heat is off. I also like that (variation's of) its leitmotif continued to be used in later tracks for similar purposes even carrying over to DBZ.

Speaking of which, next up: M819B

I quite like this piece of music...in fact, I like most pieces of music from DBZ Movie 1. Very peaceful sounding and it does have a sense of finality about it, as if it's leading you into the end of a story...which it does in the movie. :P It kinda makes me picture the Son family just relaxing on Mt. Paozu. At around 6:39, it almost sounded like it was gonna break into this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r7woqe0A1k

Pretty good piece, and quite fitting for Beerus. I really like the choir. That said, while I enjoy the BOG soundtrack well enough when I'm hearing it, I just can't keep any of it in my head. I don't know why. :?
