All the records I can find suggest it had what would be considered a wide release there equal to many large films. It just wasn't in 'every' theater (which based on my knowledge of the theater market there is rather normal.) It stayed in theaters for a little over a month as theater numbers dropped based on people not attending in numbers making it work keeping it in more theaters.

Of course, if the info I found is wrong and it didn't get a wide release... that in and of itself tells you what the distributor believed regarding the potential audience for the film.

To be fair, it was up there in the top 10 for most of it's run going toe-to-toe or even out placing other said large films and was handled by a low profile distributor.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

Apparently the 8PM Kai rerun has been so successful in the eyes of AS that now they're going to experiment with putting One Piece on right after it at 8:30. So kind of an American version of Dream 9/Strong 9, haha.

...Not sure why they're going with One Piece over, say, Naruto Shippuden, but I'm certainly not complaining. Hope it does well.

This is great for One Piece. If any show needed an encore showing, it's One Piece.

One Piece is on 2:30 AM and most of it's viewers are in bed by then. I think it's possible that they may want to move Toonami from 8:00 - 10:30 PM on Saturdays now. Have shows like Family Guy and other comedy shows be move to 11:00 PM - 3:30 AM.

Guys you arent going to believe this!

TIME PROGRAM HH VWRS(000) A1849rtg A1849(000)

8:00 Dragon Ball Z Kai (r) 0.64 1040 0.30
8:30 One Piece (r) 0.49 707 0.24

TIME PROGRAM HH VWRS(000) A1849rtg A1849(000)
12:00a Dragon Ball Z Kai 1.1 1628 0.8 1006
12:30a Kill La Kill 0.9 1319 0.6 792
1:00a Naruto: Shippuden 0.8 1100 0.5 625
1:30a Inuyasha: The Final Act 0.7 986 0.5 582
3:00a Gurren Lagann 0.6 937 0.4 521
3:30a One Piece 0.6 888 0.4 536
4:00a Deadman Wonderland 0.6 882 0.4 509

The 8PM repeat scored 1 million, decent, but no biggie.

DBZKai scored 1.6 million again with one million adults tuning in with 600.000 kids staying up late to watch as well. DBZKai could get Toonami back on Main CN if this keeps up.

EDIT:I'm not actually serious.I was just saying that to boast just how good these ratings are. Please dont be a jerk.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! ...oh, you were serious? AHAHAHAHA!

Geez, seriously. In what world do you guys live in that you think Toonami is going to go back to regular Cartoon Network? Or that Kai would do that?
Sorry to burst your bubble but if anything, but even if Kai was solely on Cartoon Network, it would probably air at 6AM on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Cartoon Network wants literally nothing to do with anime outside of Pokemon and that's probably because The Pokemon Company is paying for it to stay on the air.
Action cartoons are literally all but dead on the network; they don't even air Ben 10 anymore.

Adult Swim actually having an interest and caring for anime is why it's still on there; and the best hope is an earlier timeslot for Toonami itself and JUST MAYBE, weeknight reruns for certain shows, Kai included.

I wasnt serious. And I really dont appreciate the laughs, I just said something that was unlikely to boast how good DBZKai is doing. I know by now that CN hates third party adquisitions, action shows and anime and DBZKai is those three so CN hates it like the plague.

Could you please not laugh at me like that. I know I had it coming for saying that but I never intended it as a serious possibility.

Those are some amazing ratings.

Dragon Ball Z Kai is now officially the highest rated show in the history of Toonami.

Only DBZ could have pulled off something like this. 8)

I think 8:30 One Piece did pretty good (slightly better than what 8PM Kai debuted to), considering they didn't really advertise it. Hopefully the powers-that-be at Williams Street agree with that.

Also Kai set another record. Woot. The 8PM run seems to genuinely be bringing in new viewers, so it's doing its job.

I'm usually in bed before 10ish11ish even on weekends, so these 8pm showings are super great for me, because I don't have to think about staying up late. Especially happy about One Piece too. One Piece doesn't get enough attention compared to stuff like Naruto.

I'm surprise that they put One Piece at 8:30 PM. Either fans demand for it or they felt like putting it on 8:30 PM. I rather if they put last weeks Kill la Kill episode at 8:30 but I think the show may be too inappropriate for that time slot. I think most kids may still be awake by then since it's a Saturday and they might not go to bed until 9:30 or 10:00 PM.

It could be for any number of reasons, really. Maybe it's intended as an olive branch to OP fans who were annoyed when the premieres on the actual Toonami block got dropped to 2:30 in the wake of the restructuring (I kind of doubt it, though). Maybe they think OP would have a natural synergy with Kai because of the shared animation studio and dub company. Maybe they think that, even uncut, OP is the most appropriate option content-wise for that timeslot (it's definitely the most "cartoon-y").

Maybe it's as simple as it just being cheaper to do reruns of One Piece compared to something like Naruto Shippuden or Inuyasha: The Final Act (OP is more popular in the US than some want to give it credit for, but it's still a ways behind Naruto/Inuyasha in popularity, and I'd imagine the cost of airing episodes reflects that).

I think it might be Toei making a deal with Adult Swim. They lower their prices for DBZKai if they give One Piece more exposure. This is very unlikely, though. I dont see Toei being that smart. Its definitely Funimation calling the shots here.

That will be the new lineup. Kai remains the lead show.

Naruto Shippuden got shunted down the block for Inuyasha and SAO. That says a lot for Toonami's confidence in Naruto retaining a steady audience after KLK.

Rather it's probably based on their ability to get new shows. If the shows are only going to air after Toonami has wiped away most of it's audience after shows that will be there for years, it'd be hard to get new shows.

Moving an ongoing show that isn't really going to go anywhere makes sense. And if other shows do poorly ahead of it, they can slide it back.

Toonami's ratings never appear to really fall out of a sliding pattern based on what came before. Which is why the ratings dropped this week for Kai almost equal to the drop Family Guy had over last week.

Ratings for March 14, 2015

8:00 Dragon Ball Z Kai (r) 0.54 807 0.20
8:30 One Piece (r) 0.4 568

TIME PROGRAM HH VWRS(000) A1849rtg A1849(000)
12:00a Dragon Ball Z Kai 0.9 1354
12:30a Kill La Kill 0.7 1006
1:00a Naruto: Shippuden 0.7 968
1:30a Inuyasha: The Final Act 0.6 883
2:00a Gurren Lagann 0.6 781
2:30a One Piece 0.6 768
3:00a Deadman Wonderland 0.6 796

Terrific week! Slow for the repeats though. I definitely think Adult Swim understands that the repeats build momentum for the actual premiere. I could also be wrong. Who knows.

Another damn good week for Kai. A bit of a dip from last weeks incredible rating, but that was to be expected.
