I'm considering just reading the manga.
Yes, I talked about dropping the anime before but this time it's for real.
I don't want to hate the anime I really don't but it keeps giving me reasons to do so. Between the illogical power scaling, lousy characterization (Goku, Chi-Chi, Frost are prime examples), mediocre-to-bad animation, and blatant pandering... it's a real bummer. I know the anime adaptations were always flawed compared to the manga but Toei would learn from their past mistakes however they instead multiplied them by 10 fold.
The manga, on the other hand, suffers almost none of the aforementioned problem. It honestly feels much closer to Toriyama's original image than the cheap imitation of it Toei has going on. Akira Toriyama even said Toyotaro and his manga is the true successor to his heavy-hitting manga while he publically complained the anime.
But as a die-hard Dragon Ball fan, I feel obligated to anything with Toriyama's label on it (especially with people pressuring me to like the anime) but even I have limits.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.
Re: I'm considering just reading the manga.
The anime has really good character interactions and goku is indeed inconsistent in the anime, but the anime has pros.
I would have to say the manga does look better and don't really have to worry about .

Both have ups and downs. What you like is entirely up to you. For me, the manga is the preferred one exactly for the reasons you stated. Also Toriyama called both continuetions of his work, but its true that he complained about the anime's quality.DBZAOTA482 wrote:Yes, I talked about dropping the anime before but this time it's for real.

However there's no reason to abandon the anime, especially because it's far ahead of Toyotaro's adaptation.RehBeh wrote:Both have ups and downs. What you like is entirely up to you. Re: I'm considering just reading the manga.
Sure go ahead, if the manga was a little bit more detailed and wasn't stuck to promotional material, I would have dropped the anime ages ago..
The manga is a full blown awesomeness package, which I honestly enjoy reading, the anime on the other hand I am forcing myself to enjoy..

I'm enjoying super both anime and manga but it saddens me that fandom is so divided on this and are constantly complaining about things.

You can have the manga as your preferred ''canon''(God I hate that term)but the anime, for all its drawbacks, has pretty good things about it too.I like the manga more but I just can't imagine myself dropping the anime. It's just like you said,I also feel obligated to anything with Toriyama's label on it.But that's just how I feel, you're free to do as you like.

It is mostly the anime that gets criticized, while any flaws in the manga gets a free pass.Totamo wrote:i honestly fell that super would have been better had tori just given the plotline to toyo and toei adpat it.Ki Breaker wrote:Sure go ahead, if the manga was a little bit more detailed and wasn't stuck to promotional material, I would have dropped the anime ages ago..

I honestly hear the Manga is just a bad fanfiction. I wouldn't if I were you.
Re: I'm considering just reading the manga.
Why don't you use the term "continuity" then?MyNiggaGoku wrote:You can have the manga as your preferred ''canon''(God I hate that term)but the anime, for all its drawbacks, has pretty good things about it too.I like the manga more but I just can't imagine myself dropping the anime. It's just like you said,I also feel obligated to anything with Toriyama's label on it.But that's just how I feel, you're free to do as you like.

You know you can just do it right? You don't have to contemplate or announce it to the world. It's just a cartoon, it's not like it matters, much less for other people.

That's not true. I've seen equal criticism on both of them.zamasu121 wrote:

Not really. here is an example:in episode 57 trunks got 1 hit on ssr black, that caused people to criticize the anime non stop, but when manga ssj2 trunks was hitting ssr black and causing him pain, only me and like 2 other people mentioned it.RehBeh wrote:That's not true. Didn't he took him by suprise in both? Also in the manga he landed two punches before Black put him down.zamasu121 wrote:Not really. here is an example:in episode 57 trunks got 1 hit on ssr black, that caused people to criticize the anime non stop, but when manga ssj2 trunks was hitting ssr black and causing him pain, only me and like 2 other people mentioned it.RehBeh wrote:That's not true. Again, manga gets criticized too. There are various examples if you look in other forums/yt comments. After all both have pros and cons.

Re: I'm considering just reading the manga.
I think the manga & the anime had equal collected criticism, but targeted criticism tends to differ. What do I mean by that?zamasu121 wrote:Not really. here is an example:in episode 57 trunks got 1 hit on ssr black, that caused people to criticize the anime non stop, but when manga ssj2 trunks was hitting ssr black and causing him pain, only me and like 2 other people mentioned it.RehBeh wrote:That's not true. Take Episode 5 from the anime. It was heavily criticized for its horrible animation and fighting sequences. No criticism was made to the manga's correspondent fight. Now take a chapter for which the manga was heavily criticized, chapter 13.The criticism was huge for various reasons(for the return of SSG,for SSB's nerfing & for making Hit weaker)but the correspondent portion of the anime was loved by most of the fans for its badassery(SSB Kaio-Ken etc.).
That were some huge parts of targeted criticism.Your example feels like nitpicking(not neccessarily from you,but from the sides that complained in general)because it's not something people will refer to when arguing against 1 of the 2 mediums. The manga & the anime get criticized.A lot.The thing is they don't get criticised for the same reasons, but for vastly different ones.
