Dragon Ball Calendars (Project)

Post by MrKaytos » Fri Apr 19, 2013 7:07 am

I do not know if this is the right place to publish this video, but I want to share with you the Dragon Ball Calendars released all these years. Our astonishing adventure begins in 1987:

Video-calendar 1987: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPep4UN1GZI

Video-calendar 1991-A: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoLvaYAi2Bg

Video-calendar 1991-B: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhHsTjYsn-0

Video-calendar 1992-A: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q0AjPzRfHE&hd=1

Video-calendar 1992-B: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlMNOPhDNkE&hd=1

The original source is Mena (from Mundo Dragon Ball). Years ago, he took some photos of the calendars and I have been editing all the pictures carefully.

Do you like the idea? If so, I'll keep on updating this ancient material with unique pictures.

Definitely! It's interesting to look at obscure images from the series.

I've just added the second video-calendar released in 1991: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoLvaYAi2Bg

It's important to know that 2 calendars were released by that year. I'll upload the second one later.

Thank you again for sharing the calendar images!

Those latest sample images; isn't that the artist who's got an account on Pixiv now?
I feel like it is but I'm not sure. Either way, they both look like they would've made for some fun filler stuff.

Also! Calender B at 00:39 for Goku randomly holding a bundle of bananas.

Thanks, man! Beautiful images in that calendar. :)

Just out of curiosity, what is the song you used for that video?

Thanks!! Well, the song belongs to a Battle of Gods soundtrack which is known as "Cha-La Head-Cha-La (Peaceful Earth)" :)

By the way, here you are the second calendar released in 1992 (Type B) in Japan.

This is quite interesting given that it's the first time that a Super Saiyan appears on a Dragon Ball Calendar:

I hope you like it!

That old art style is wonderful! It is so much nicer looking than present day official art.

However, that SSJ one from 1992 looks very un-dragonball like. Hmm... do you know who drew most of them? It looks like something out of Shindo productions with how the face is designed, especially the later artwork.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

It would be wonderful to have an artbook with all these calendars. So many beautiful artworks, not to mention the ones that MrKaytos hasn't covered yet.

Really want to know the artist. These are way better than anything we're getting right now IMO.

Exactly. To me, this looks like Dragonball. It's defined, maybe sharp, maybe round, but it is not bubbly weird plastic looking! How I miss the days of old sometimes (for some things of course!! :D )

I agree with you guys, I also miss this drawing style.
I'm working on the third calendar from 1992. It really maintains the essence of the previous ones. Check the sample:
