I'm honestly not sure how to feel about this. While Dragon Soul does work well with its placement in episode 97, IMO it's intended effect in episode 98 - that of being, coupled with the ending montage, a send-off for Dragon Ball Kai - is kind of diluted when it's also used in the same place in the previous episode, for essentially the same reason.

Plus, considering both the earthquake that delayed DB Kai by a week, and subsequently pushed the final episode off the air and shunted to, essentially, a blu-ray special episode, coupled with the fact that the soundtrack for the last 3 episodes were completely replaced and redone, I'm not sure if Dragon Soul would have been what Yamamoto intended for that scene. Plus, IMO, kei17's music selection is just as good, and in scene I actually think it works better than Dragon Soul did.

In any case, in the end it's your decision, but I thought I should just throw my opinion out there.

I had forgotten that Kei changed the music in that scene. Hmm... maybe I will use the track he used instead of Dragon Soul.

I definitely understand the decision to replace it but how do we know that that's what Yamamoto would've intended? We know that all of his music was removed and replaced with Kikuchi's music but what if he had handpicked Dragon Soul to play at this scene? If this were the case, then it could've easily been left there after the scandal since Yamamoto didn't compose it himself.

Of course, this is all very subjective. I understand that it may dampen Dragon Soul's effect at the end of episode 98, but I definitely get goosebumps hearing the show's theme song played at such an awesome moment when all the key characters are in such high spirits, despite Goku's death. Gohan's line "tomorrow's a whole new day!" epitomizes one of the themes of Dragon Soul.

At the very least, if it's not too much trouble, maybe you could release 2 versions of episode 97? That way people can choose the one that suits their taste. But, if I'm the only one who likes Dragon Soul's placement in that episode, then don't worry about it .

I replaced Dragon Soul on episode 97 because they must have inserted the song as a result of omitting episode 98. Episode 97 suddenly became the final episode in the original run on Fuji TV, so they probably wanted to add some kind of concluding feeling to the end. If it's not the case, playing Dragon Soul twice in the last two episodes doesn't make much sense. So, my guess is that the original music placement of the Yamamoto version didn't have Dragon Soul at the end of episode 97. Also, the song kinda kills Chichi's sad moment.

I've been trying this out and it seems to have worked and it's great. I really couldn't have watched it with that Kikuchi score.

A Faulconer version would be pretty cool if someone else did that one day.

Wait, were you asking if the original Japanese broadcast versions of those episodes would be rescored? Because I thought he said that he wouldn't be able to do those due to not being able to isolate the Japanese dialogue from the music.
