Has anyone done blind reactions/experience reports from the beginning?
Reacting to and reviewing shows on Youtube so others can follow one's first-time experience is a pretty commonplace thing these days, and plenty of people have done it for the TFS Abridged series, but I'm surprised with Dragon Ball being such a popular series that nobody appears to have done that sort of project, whether it be reaction videos or reviews or whatever, for the show itself (except Super).
Do you know of anyone who's done that sort of thing? I guess such a long series is just a pretty big undertaking, and people would rather watch more current shows if they aren't already fans of the series, which would moot the point of following the experience.

When Super apparently shoves Goku down our throats:

About 8 years ago on the old Funimation Forums, a UK user watched the entire franchise at the time on recorded his reactions in a thread. It was like watching a child grow up.

Well Jake kinda fulfills that in the Manga Review of Awesomeness, right?

While not the entire series, Spaz Boys Comedy has done random blind reactions to the bigger parts of the series (mostly Z and a little bit of Super). Here's his reaction to Broly's transformation. I will give you a language warning though... hell, let's just throw an Adults Only rating on most of his videos. He gets ripe as f... you get the idea.

That sounds like something I'll have to track down. "Watching a child grow up" is pretty much what this sort of thing is forShadowBardock89 wrote:About 8 years ago on the old Funimation Forums, a UK user watched the entire franchise at the time on recorded his reactions in a thread. How... How didn't I know that was a thing? Essentially they discuss each volume, including someone who's reading it for the first time?KBABZ wrote:Well Jake kinda fulfills that in the Manga Review of Awesomeness, right?
Actually his videos were one of the things that led me to ask about this. I really enjoyed hearing his thoughts on the Abridged series specifically because he was completely new to the franchise, so even though it wasn't the original version it was still his first experience of the story and he fell in love with the characters in his own way.cheddarsword wrote:While not the entire series, Spaz Boys Comedy has done random blind reactions to the bigger parts of the series (mostly Z and a little bit of Super). Correct! It's a pretty good listen for the series as it goes on, particularly the early Dragon Ball stuff where Jake pretty much has zero conceptions about it (although he does know for example that Goku is the main character who's around a lot, and he edited footage from the Cell Games this one time). He's also able to notice some interesting points (like Dragon Ball locationss in the Raditz mini-arc), and Mike asks him for predictions at the end of each Tankobon volume.Fizzer wrote:How... That's really my only critique actually; the format of reading the manga follows the evenly-divided Tankobon releases for a series that was updated once a week, so they often have to put down the story in a way that completely kills the momentum. I would have done it at nice stopping points like at the end of an arc or when a significant character shows up.

Correction: my friend Jeff, not Jake (Herms). At some point in the series Jake did start sending in "Viz-isms" that we would cover, though.
But yes. As part of the podcast's "Manga Review of Awesomeness" (a title Jeff coined), we brought him in to read the entire series beginning to end to get a fresh, newcomer's perspective.

Are you talking about Gyt Kaliba? He also posted his reactions to the Japanese version on their forums (and here, I believe) around that time.ShadowBardock89 wrote:About 8 years ago on the old Funimation Forums, a UK user watched the entire franchise at the time on recorded his reactions in a thread. Re: Has anyone done blind reactions/experience reports from the beginning?
No, it was someone else and he watched the English dub first, then went back and watched the original Japanese version. Gyt Kaliba, like the rest of us, was reading along and answering questions this user had, no spoilers of course.Daisetsu wrote:Are you talking about Gyt Kaliba? I wish I knew how to make screenshots at the time so I could have recorded it as well as his username.
