Height Chart Request

Post by Tyro » Fri Dec 10, 2010 1:22 am

I know that Herms posted a list of various character heights over on MFG, but since that site has gone down I can't search for it. Can't seem to find it on Kanzentai either. Does anyone happen to have a copy of this list? I believe that it came from one of the SEGs.

This guide isn't specific to height, but it has the characters' height listed. You can find all this and more at the very tippity top sticky, the world-renowned, "Herms' Guide Guide".

Goku seemed like he was gradually growing taller from the Saiyan arc up until the Cell Games.

When Goku first faced Nappa there was a full frontal shot where his eyes to chin was ~0.5" and his body length was around 6". Usually eye level to chin is around 5.5", so you have someone whose proportions would be consistent with someone who is around 5'6.

When Goku faced Cell, after he did a powerup, he had a full-upright shot with his whole body. His face was pointed downards at a slight angle, and the eye to chin distance was around 0.30", so we will generously say the eye to chin length is about ~4.25". while his total body length was around 5.5". So you have someone whose proportions are consistent with someone who is a little over 6'4.

When I first saw that I was like "holy cow! When did Goku get that tall? He really IS Superman!"

(This was slightly rectified in the Buu arc, although his fully-upright shots all indicated someone who is in the 6'1 range.)

Man, goku went from short oriental to tall white guy!
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Didn't look through the whole thread due to length, but what are those heights in US customary system? (Like many Americans not too knowledgeable on metric system heights).

I read the title of this thread pretty fast and thought it said "Hentai Request"

Anyway, I'm interested in getting heights not of Dragonball characters but of Karin's tower and Kami's lookout. I've always wondered how high they went up.

Herms' guide lists Goku as 175 cm.
That's about 5 foot 7 inches. (5.74 if you wanna be really exact.)
Also kind of worth noting that's the average height for men in Japan.

By comparision, Vegeta's roughly 5'4 and Piccolo's 7'4.
On hiatus.

It's 5 ft 9 to be exact.

1 inch = 2,54 cm.
1 Foot = 30,48 cm.

5 feet = 152,4 cm.
7 inches = 17,78 cm.

5 feet 7 inches = 170,18 cm. - which is less, than 175 cm.

9 inches = 22,86 cm.

5 feet 9 inches = 175,26 cm.

Goku in the imperial system is 5ft 9, while in the metric system he is 175 cm.

You were right about this though:
Chuquita wrote:(5.74 if you wanna be really exact.)
Which you got by saying 175/30,48 = 5,74 feet, which isn't the equvalent of 5 feet 7 inches because of 1 foot being 12 inches, not 10.

1 foot = 30.48 centimeters.

1 inch = 2.54 centimeters.

5*30.48 = 152.4 centimeters.

2.54*7 = 17.78 centimeters.

152.4+17.78 = 170.18

170.18 centimeters = 5'7....

But Google as well as users on various websites say...

(175cm/(2.54cm/in)=68.9 in(rounded) (68.9in)/(12in/ft)=5.74ft (rounded)

Yeah that was a typo.
http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=5+foot+7+inches says the same, but most of the unit conversion system calculators are giving me 175 cm = 5'7. It seems to be justified by:
(175cm/(2.54cm/in)=68.9 in(rounded) (68.9in)/(12in/ft)=5.74ft (rounded)
I really don't know which is right. ._.

Then those conversion calculators don't know, what they are talking about :P

5,74ft is not the same as 5'7, in fact it's not even close! This is because of 12 inches consisting of a foot not 10, if 10 inches was equal to a foot, then 5,74 ft would be closer to 5'7, than it is to 5'9.

Compare it to the hours of a day.

Some places in Europe don't use the am/pm system, so if it's 4 pm, we will say that it's 16 o' clock, however that doesn't mean, that when you look at the watch it will show the pointer pointing at 6(as in 10 +6 ) rather it will be pointing at 4(as in 12 + 4), since ½ a day consists of 12 hours and not 10.

Hope this gets the point across. :)

Bastard calculators. I actually found a nice chart as I searched through them all.

Trunks (kid)
Height: 129 cm (child)

Chaozu
Height: 138 cm
Am I the only one who think this is a odd measure? I would expect 80cm...

The panel you choose was shown from an upward perspective, at linear, it's not so much different from that appearance in the Saiyan arc:

This pic compared to his work in the saiyan arc really shows. He could draw DBZ a lot better before.... and Goku got taller.

416px/31px*5.5inches (eye to chin) and you get someone who is about 73.8 inches tall.

Give him 1 inch for his shoes and you still have a guy who is about 6'0¾.

That is definitely not the proportions of a 5'7 guy.
