List of Official Mexican Dub DVDs and... info?

Post by nathantheguitarist » Thu May 10, 2012 5:56 pm

Been meaning to make this for a while... Also been waiting to even hear about these, since it was a news update on the main site about a year ago. Welp... Now they're finally out!

Quick little rundown.

What is currently available: DB 1-28, DBZ 1-74, DBGT 1-64 and TV Special, DBZ Movies 11-13.

The series is taken care of by En Pantalla Produciones/On Screen Films.
The couple of movies have been out for a couple years from Towers Entertainment.

That's as much as I'm aware of, at least. If there's more someone let us all know! And if anyone knows of any other websites to buy these DVDs from other than the ones listed, please let us know as well (like if they're suddenly not carried anymore, an updated alternative would be nice). Now, what do these all look like, and where to buy them? ... Oh boy... *cracks knuckles*

Please note: The following listings (except Amazon) use pesos, not dollars. They're the same symbol ($) if anyone didn't know.

Dragon Ball:

Two versions released by En Pantalla/On Screen. (The second version... ehhh, after the easy stuff!)
14 volumes covering the first 28 episodes (Yes. 2 episodes a disc. You'll see at the end.)
Two volumes with 14 episodes each.

Dragon Ball Z:

Three versions released by En Pantalla/On Screen.
37 new volumes covering the first 74 episodes (more on that below)

5 old volumes covering the first 52 episodes, and a collected boxset of the 5 volumes.

TanookiKuribo actually went and reviewed one of these volumes a while back. Also, me going on like a nut looking around and discovering most of this shit. :P
Most of these Amazon links are basically placeholders, but I bought the 5-disc set from Amazon, so... there you go. Sometimes a listing for all 5 volumes (not the boxset) shows up on Ebay as well. Unfortunately, On Screen's official site doesn't ship internationally, but there's enough alternatives...

I now read that some people are getting audio issues on some episodes where Spanish and Japanese will play at the same time. These are single audio releases, so... it isn't DVD player issues. :s On Screen commented that they found this issue as well but have no exact date for the fixed relaunch. There are also comments that the video and sound aren't very good (lots of bad "pixelation"/macroblocking comments). This really sucks, but at the same time, there isn't an alternative... :/

Dragon Ball Movies and Specials:

DBZ Movies 11, 12, and 13 and the GT Special all released by Towers Entertainment.

Silly other releases that... exist:

All by En Pantalla
Dragon Ball: 14 volumes with 2 episodes-per-disc each. The same 28 episodes as the 2 volumes.

Image

Dragon Ball Z: 37 volumes with 2 episodes-per-disc each. The same 74 episodes as the 4 volumes.

Image

(Yup. That's Buu and Android art on the cover of Saiyan-Namek episodes.)

Unfortunately, you can't easily find these online. The pictures I got are from MercadoLibre, which is basically Mexico's Ebay. (I think Ebay owns them? Not sure...) Some sellers will ship internationally, you'll just have to contact them and find out. I've also seen a listing pop up on Craigslist (in Tijuana), so I guess you have to get lucky if you look hard enough.

Or go to Mexico. ;p Whoever's running On Screen's Facebook told me they are available in these stores in Mexico:
Soriana
Bodega Aurrera
Mixup (physical stores)
Chedraui (for the new Z volumes;from a fan on the Facebook page)

Another little tidbit on these, from On Screen's Facebook, posted by On Screen, ran through Google Translate: "It is very difficult to trace this product as it is identified with a single bar code and were made only to the store where purchased." That sounds fun...

Now just to see some of these but not clutter this up any more, here's a whole bunch of other pictures I saved of these DVDs. They look like those cheap, 99-cent movies you find in, well, 99-cents stores. :p

Towers used to sell the movies directly on their website last year, but now they don't, but they didn't ship internationally anyways. So fuck them. =D And I don't know why On Screen doesn't sell the new DB and DBZ DVDs on their website. Maybe more importantly, I don't know if these new DVDs for all 3 series have the same (crappy) video quality as the old 5-volumes DBZ. BUT... the point is the audio. You can't expect Dragon Boxes for every dub and they're an actual, legal release, mmk? Mmk.

PS: Oh yeah Funimation released some shit too. :P
I'm expecting everyone knows about those.
please don't make me write anymore ;-;

Not yet (that I'm aware of).

1-54 are mentioned in the original press release, but that's with Televisa and not Towers or En Pantalla.

Hey, your links to the inidivial GT releases don't work. And are you sure that GT boxset isn't only the first out of two boxes in total? 64 episodes and a special on 5 dvd's sounds... besides, the cover art is clearly covering Bebi saga stuff.

As for the releases... I'm guessing they only contain the Mexican dub, without any Japanese version?

This is correct. I bought the Dragon Ball Vol.7 with two episodes and it only has the Spanish original audio. I expect the 14 DB episodes sets to be the same.

I really hope they manage to get original cast for the Kai DVD sets.

Kai fantastically failed in Mexico's main TV stations (I could risk to say that in the rest of Latinamerica too).

The general reaction here was *rage* (╯°□°)╯ ︵ ┻━┻

The individual volumes are pre-orders, I just noticed. If they weren't loading, try again. They work for me just fine.
sangofe wrote:And are you sure that GT boxset isn't only the first out of two boxes in total? 64 episodes and a special on 5 dvd's sounds... besides, the cover art is clearly covering Bebi saga stuff.
Read the official site's description on the boxset's listing:
"Set contiene 5 Volumenes con 64 episodios de Dragon Ball GT ."
The entire series for this boxset is all they've ever mentioned on their Twitter, Facebook, and those little ad graphics on their site and newsletter.

En Pantalla does not have the TV Special. That's still being sold by Towers Entertainment. Which I listed. *points up* Aaaaand the cover art doesn't really matter. They're putting Buu and Androids on Namek Saga DVDs. :|

Also, while they got a bit better with putting out 3-disc sets to cover 18-19 episodes for DBZ, the old DBZ volumes contain 10-11 episodes each. When the video is (I'm assuming) likely terrible anyways and there's only one audio track (the point!), it's not thaaaat bad.

Yup! :P

Oh awesome, someone here has one of these things! Is the video quality as bad the old DBZ volumes? That's all I'm wondering about the new DVDs (but more so for DBZ). Oh! And where'd you buy it?

Are those DB sets uncut? As in, everything, even material censored on television, is dubbed?

And another thing, at $499.00, that GT set is hella cheap (if you don't include the high shipping price...)!
So mondo lame.

I would imagine not, and if they were uncut, they'd likely have Japanese audio cut in with the extra footage. But I don't know for sure, since I don't have them myself. (yet) Hopefully SoulNova can confirm that? But with only two episodes to go by...

Yes. Feel free to ask On Screen's Facebook about them.

Bootlegs typically try to cram tons of episodes to a disc... not 2.

...I feel like people are glancing over the text.

Yeah, you could say the quality is bad, but two episodes for a dollar seemed like a good deal. I bought it to show it to my niece and introduce her to Dragon Ball. She's 6, so she didn't care much about quality.

I bought it in a DVD bin on Soriana.

Thanks for the reply! Hope she liked it.

I have some more info to add now. Not the good kind. :[

For the GT Boxset and volumes that were just released, I now read that people are getting audio issues. On some episodes, Spanish and Japanese will play at the same time. These are single audio releases, so... :s On Screen commented that they found this issue as well but have no exact date for the fixed relaunch. There are also comments that the video and sound quality aren't very good (lots of bad "pixelation"/macroblocking comments). This really sucks, but at the same time, there isn't an alternative... Hopefully they announce, at least on Facebook, that they put out the fixed version and hopefully Mixup will change their stock of them.

Also for those 2-episode-per-volume discs, I found this comment from On Screen on their Facebook (ran through Google Translate): "It is very difficult to trace this product as it is identified with a single bar code and were made only to the store where purchased." That sounds fun... No wonder they aren't online.

Concerning DB games, were there DBZ games with the LS dub?

I think in Spain they released the games with the Castellano, Catalán and Gallego dubs, but not too sure as I've never bought these versions, though, it seems also they featured the original DBZ soundtrack. Maybe it was a custom job.

In Colombia, the games released were the North American versions, all in English, with the replaced soundtracks. I don't know about anywhere else.
So mondo lame.

I'm pretty sure that was a fan-edit. To the best of my knowledge, the only dub that the games get is an English dub, done with FUNimation's voice actors.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Sadly, no official Latin Dub is available for any game. There's a fan project for Tenkaikichi Budokai 3 which is coming along nicely. I played it and it's quite impressive what this guy has managed to accomplish so far. He can't translate some dialogues on the Menus section, but that's to be expected.

I believe he found the Mexican VA of Goku and got him to say his title with "Version Latino" included. It certainly gives it a whole new feeling for me.
