I'm not a fan of musicals (apart from, maybe, Bugsy Malone), but Dragon Ball musicals? Fuck yes.

Oh yeah, I love Bugsy Malone too. The only problem with putting this into a musical format is how are they going to handle the fights?

A straight-up musical? No. But something in the comedic or parody vein, like say Nerima Daikon Brothers, Blues Brothers, or Avenue Q...I am so in.

Maybe it would be specific to the "Young Goku" portion of the series because it has moreof a potential for a comedic musical. The Red Ribbon Army arc would be perfect for this. You could have each colonel, ninja, or professional killer have their own song!

Of course they are going to keep the openings, endings, and vocalized insert songs. But what would be truly interesting is if they came up with lyrics for some bgms or entirely new songs.

Just get the voice actors themselves, dress them up in some cosplay and they're good to go.

They could just dress up like the Kai costumes from that stage show and have a mic for talking.

I think this would work. A musical can easily portray both comedic storylines like the earlier parts of the series, and serious ones. For example, The Phantom of the Opera has a serious, deep, dark and emotional storyline, and the musical adaptation doesn't lose that or seem absurd in any way. A musical that is only a few hours long and starts out light hearted and comedic and gradually takes a more serious tone, like Dragon Ball, might be a different story, but image how much of an artistic masterpiece that could be if pulled off properly. I'm envisioning a condensed version of everything up to the end of either the 23rd Tenkaichi Bodoukai arc, or the Freeza arc, told in about three hours. It's the unusual story of Son Goku growing up and eventually saving the world, and the contrast in tone could be something quite poignant, especially if there was time to include the Freeza arc - then it's the unusual story of Son Goku growing up, becoming a hero, and avenging his species.

That happened to Dragon Ball Kai: Super Battle Stage using characters from DBZ Movie 8 (Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan) two years ago. Bulma wore her Namek arc attire and what not. The characters look real to me TBH, I like having Dragon Ball going Broadway as long as they don't relive another Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark incident long ago.

This idea sounds awesome and terrible at once. The two are not mutually exclusive I would totally want to see it. I mean, they made all those Sailor Moon musicals, so why not try it with Dragonball?

But what about the voice actors who play multiple roles? Masako Nozawa would have to keep changing back and forth between Gokuu and Gohan (so she'd have to play both a full grown male and a child, quite a task for an elderly woman). Or, if you were imagining the dub actors, Chris Sabat would be changing between Vegeta, Piccolo, and 50 other characters. Heh, if he didn't have enough time for transitions, you'd see him running around in green face paint and a Vegeta wig
