Thoughts on DBZ Movie 8

Discuss Broly's first strike. It felt more like a film than most other Dragonball movies. Pretty cool. Would've liked it if it followed the manga more closely though.

My one wish is that the team who animated movie 10 would've animated this movie.

This is a great tack onto DBZ lore, even if you think Broly is a mindless and uninteresting villain.

I like this movie. This was back when Broly was a genuinely cool villain, before movies 10 and 11 turned him into a drooling idiot. This movie gave us one of my favorite fights in the series too. My favorite part would have to be this though.



I give it an A. It's tied for best movie, along with Movie 5.

Plot - B. Pretty nice. As this seems more of a Movie than a re-telling of a saga. Broly was a great character(...Till Move 11). Great to see Vegeta being scarred of someone's power again. Let's not forget that Broly could TALK properly without saying KAKAROTTTTTTTTTTTTT! Only thing I would change would be Broly wanting revenge on Vegeta not Goku. As Goku being a crybaby as a kid was a cheap way to make a bad guy want to kill Goku

Animation D. Only thing this lacked was animation. If only Movie 10 animators made this. DAMN IT

Music - B. Great music from both BGM(s). Have heard better choices though,

Fighting - B. Talk about an ASS WHOOPING. Talk about your pslams talk about John 3:16. Broly 3:16 said he whoop your ass. Everything was great in the fighting. Just beatdowns everywhere. The ending though was weak. I know it's Broly weak spot but it felt weak to me.

Great movie, not in my Great Three, but I consider it part of my canon and think it's one of the better movies.
Love the connection to the main series again, the music and character designs. I don't like the second half of the movie, as Brolly is constantly only beating the heroes to the pulp with no sign of hope, so it is starting to be little boring to the end, energy giving concept and the climax punch...... also the sequels to this movie aren't helping!

Yeah, that was one way massacre and I was kinda puzzled by everyone having 0 effect, being in deep s**t and all this was resolved by punch made from everyone's 5% of remaining energy and resulting in Brolly leaking menthol liquor from his stomach.

Honestly, it nearly put me to sleep. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I thought the movie was terrible, and I think Broli is a terrible villain.

He's just this giant ball of charging muscle mass, ostensibly without a thought in his head, somehow driven to madness by a crying baby. I would say he's one dimensional, but I think that's one dimension too many for this character. Paragus is slightly more interesting, and the only real poignant scene in the film is the flashback to the attempt on his and Broli's life. Otherwise, the film basically boils down to the comedic relief of a drunk Muten Roshi, and Goku and the others being mercilessly pounded for 20 minutes until he pulls a winning move straight out of his ass.

I find the writing to be exceptionally poor as well. I mean, I know that people harp on Broli's backstory constantly, but REALLY? A crying baby turns this guy into a raging maniac? Shouldn't he be more angry at Vegeta? It just doesn't make any sense. And really, can Paragus not come up with a better plan? His epic scheme is to lure everyone onto a poorly disguised, slave-driven decoy planet that isn't populated by any Saiyans other than himself and his son, only to have that planet be destroyed by space debris?

In conclusion, I give it a score of 1/5. Were it not for the excellent treatment that the movies got in terms of animation, and for the one flashback scene, it would have been a 0.

I love everything related to pure Saiyans. Legendary Super Saiyan transformation is one of my favorites ( ripped body before transforms, white eyes and all that ).

One of the first DBZ movies that I've watched in Japanese with subs. This movie holds a lot of nostalgia for me since I saw it long before it came out in the US.

I remember seeing a lot of animated gifs of this "Brolly" on the internet before the movie came out in the US. I was so excited when I actually got this movie.

I thought it was pretty boring.. Definitely the longest movie to actually get down to the fighting.. So Broly's upset with Goku just cause he made him cry once when he was a baby? Give me a break.

Oh and then Vegeta acting all wimpy for half the movie.

I appreciate aspects of it, but dislike it on the whole, because of Broly himself.

For one, I really like that they actually had a somewhat fleshed out concept, a backstory, a real context for the events in the movie. They actually weaved a tale that resonated with the mythos.

Unfortunately, that tale and background were utterly f***ing stupid and unnecessary and the action that followed in its wake was just repetitive and frankly boring.

We don't need to have an official, real "Legendary Super Saiyan". When you try to explain a pretty vague legend that Vegeta had only kind of heard of it loses the mystique. Especially when it turns out this one guy nobody's heard of before that's only around for some movies is the ACTUAL, REAL SUPER SAIYAN OF LEGEND. No. Sorry. Not buying it. Especially when Broly has zero personality and just bulldozes the characters for twenty or so minutes until they summon Captain Planet or whatever (they do combine their powers).

You know, they could have made a perfectly watchable movie if it was just about Paraugus trying to rebuild the Saiyan empire and his son is some kind of abnormal mutant or he wins over Vegeta somewhat and that puts him in conflict with Goku or something, anything better than YEP STOP YOUR WONDERING THIS ONE HULKING SIMPLETON IS THE REAL LEGENDARY SUPER SAIYAN.

Screw you guys, Toei. Broly is awful and will always be awful.

I don't think the whole "real LSSJ" thing is needed but I love the idea of a super strong and violent Saiyan villain, legendary or not. Though I wish he was a little more smart.

I love Broly, but I've never overrated him in terms of power. I know right where he should be, around Perfect Cell levels of power, but I think he's just cool. I personally love the idea of an evil Super Saiyan. Super Saiyans are born through rage or other strong emotions, right? Broly is full of rage. A seemingly unstoppable monster, who can't be reasoned with just destroying three Super Saiyans and a 'super' Namekian basically all at once.

Sure, the movie has some weaknesses (crying Goku, the ending) but all in all, it's by far and away my favorite Dragon Ball movie. Though I can't say I'm a big fan of 10 and definitely not of 11.

Paragras was a good villain with an actual objective, seeing Vegeta in paralyzing fear without having to get beaten into the dirt is gold, and having Piccolo call him out for it so bluntly takes it up to Platinum. Going by video game ranking logic.

Broly will always be interesting to me as a parody of everything Sayain. "Even more bulky muscles! Even more explosions! Even more one-sided slaughter! Hell yeah!" Seeing a beat-down that terrifyingly, absurdly, and most importantly unapologetically one-sided, just once, was really cool. It just drags on too long, and thus ends far too quickly. You could have easily cut 10 minutes from Goku's last stand and still gotten the point across.

Thought I'd ask for the North Americans, was this movie your first time being introduced to Mr. Mignogna, or did you know of his earlier roles first? For me, saw him first on YYH as Uraurashima, but a the Toonami broadcast credits went by quickly and couldn't always see names, this was where I first knew of him by name.
