Why are there some parts of the english manga that look very pixelated or low quality?
(I can't show pictures because i'm typing on my phone right now)
Take chapter 317 for example. I don't know is it the scanning or did the volume look like that.
I've seen the same chapters in english in many stores with regular quality.
I'm a bit confused. So are you possibly.

By the sounds of it, you're referring to the terrible scanlations that date back to the 90s. Since many people didn't exactly possess high quality scanners or have much experience with photoshop, what you're looking at is a low quality scan with the threshold turned right up - a method of making images pure black and white back in the day.

When I was first getting into the series, I had the (dis)pleasure of happening upon some scanlations (probably made around 1995, as the last handful of chapters appeared to have been pulled directly from Jump). Pixellated, flipped, "translated" from Japanese and Korean (yet with many dialogue bubbles saying simply, "untrans."), and with the contrast turned, way, way up. They were… intriguing, but not in a way that made me want to read them. If anything, they got me into the original Japanese version, since most of the series wasn't out yet in English.
