Is there an official release for the edited version of Dragon Ball Z?
I've been thinking of remastering the Ocean dub with Dragon Box footage from episode 180-276, since they aren't done yet.
I have a problem, though. Due to these being edited TV rips, there's a ton of weird cuts and edits in each and every episode that makes them almost impossible to remaster.
Is there an official release for this cut TV version that I could maybe use instead of the Dragon Boxes?

The only option would be VHS. I don't think the edited episodes ever got released on DVD
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Sounds like you should look for the Rock the Dragon boxset? If it has 5.1 audio then that would make it much easier to make the required edits thanks to the separation of the dialogue and music tracks.

For the Ocean dub of the latter portion of the series that aired on TV in the UK and Canada? That's never gotten an official release that anyone is aware of.
Funimation did release the Rock the Dragon boxset a few years ago, but that only covers the Ocean material that Funimation was directly involved with (the first two "seasons" of the dub + the three edited movies).

As hard as it might be to do the edits with existing footage there really isn't that many other options. The later Ocean dub episodes never got a home release so unless you have high quality recordings of the TV broadcast the only way to remaster that dub would be to do it from the ground up. The only other way I can think of is by syncing the audio with footage from the edited Funimation dub but you may need to track down TV rips because that version never got a post-VHS release. Best of luck with it

So, the edited versions of episodes 180-276 are on VHS?
I'll try to track those down.

For the Funimation dub, yes. Not for the Ocean dub.SylentEcho wrote:So, the edited versions of episodes 180-276 are on VHS?

Tracking down the VHS tapes wouldn't be ideal because they are incomplete and the footage will only be VHS quality.

A full Dragon Box remaster of the Westwood dub was already made by someone a couple years ago, problem is, there are better audio sources available for it these days and a lot of that audio isn't being shared, this includes audio for the Blue Water dubs too. There's really no point in attempting a new remaster until a substantial amount of the new audio is made available. When that will happen is anyone's guess.
