Dragon Box GT vs Dragon Ball GT Season
Just as you thought this would be about the comparsion between these two. In picture quality, which one is better? Since both are full screen, you can easily compare.

Sorry. My computer has a problem. Kinda like laqqy so I had to refresh the page and repost, ending up having 2 threads. Forgive me.Bussani wrote:Uh, why did you post this twice?
I hear the FUNi season set looks blurred. There are some comparisons around somewhere, probably in the GT Season 1 Set thread in the General Section if you can find it.
Edit: Anyway, I have DBGT Season 1 and the quality is freakin awesome!

Here's some screencaps I pinched from the DBGT season 1 thread;
Dragon Box

FUNimation single

Season set

As you can see, the Dragonbox capture is quite crisp, with the single release being pretty damn close, though a little grainier while the season set is pretty blurry in comparison to both sacrificing some detail.
Anyway, the Dragonbox is still the best release, in terms of audio and video, as it has a nice progressive encode while the single releases and the season sets are both interlaced.

That somehow infers that grain is "bad". That's part of the original image and film. That's how it has always looked. Is that "bad"? Well, if you don't like it, then sure... the somewhat-blurred image in FUNimation's sets are for you.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Well, FUNimation's season sets have better picture quality because there is no grain. Anyhow, you are probably right. The Dragon Box has better audio and video.

I'm trying to learn to compare the picture quailty now. I have GT season set and it doesn't look blur to me. Oh well. Whatever. To each his or her own, I guess.

While we have differing views on the Dragonbox and Funimation releases I must admit, I love your avatar.SylentEcho wrote:I prefer the Dragon Box to anything FUNi has ever released. GT is pretty much the same, but in DBZ one can easily see the difference in clarity and colour.

Yeah, it's one of Freeza's chou-1337 doctors. FUNimation calls him Malakka or something.SylentEcho wrote:Haha, cheers. Who is in your avatar? Isn't that the scientist who healed Burdock?
And when the name was brought up in a thread, S-P had no idea who "Malakka" was.

It's actually Planthorr. Malakka is the other doctor. The Tori-bot wrote:Yeah, it's one of Freeza's chou-1337 doctors. FUNimation calls him Malakka or something.SylentEcho wrote:Haha, cheers. Who is in your avatar? Isn't that the scientist who healed Burdock?

Does anybody from the UK know if the two GT season sets work on any region two dvd player like the Z series?
I'm just checking as the movies do state on the back that they play, But they don't...
I have just got to order season nine, and then I'm hoping to get the two GT boxsets.
Can anybody clarify they work?
Thanks guys!

Well, I have Season 4, Dragon Ball Movie Box and DBZ Movie 9. On their back, the regions are 1, 2 and 4. I live in region 2, and all of them work just fine to me.saiyanprincess wrote:Does anybody from the UK know if the two GT season sets work on any region two dvd player like the Z series?

I don't have a GT brick... so, I don't know if it's different or not.

Yes. GT season sets work on Region 2 dvd players. If DBZ season sets work on Region 2 players, why wouldnt GT too? Anyway, you probably should order GT season sets if you want to add them to your collectionsaiyanprincess wrote:Does anybody from the UK know if the two GT season sets work on any region two dvd player like the Z series?

I don't think we can genuinely judge how much better the sets look without them being in motion. Still shots are great for showing, "hey look at these missing lines/crap editing", but you don't watch the series as still frames, you watch it in animation.
That being said, while I'm alright with grain, I do like the look of the most recent GT set.

I don't remember: is there a reason they were given names in the dub, or was it another case of change for the sake of change?

While I see a tiny bit of lost detail in the pillar behind Goku, all in all, the Season Set looks best to me. It just looks...smoother. I guess I don't like the grain
That said, I'd rather have the singles, because they have the proper title cards. Of course the season set has the coveted English audio with Japanese music that I wanted for a decade...I guess I'll get both. I've already got all of the edited VHS's. They were $3 each at Dollar General, what can I say
