Sakai Izumi / ZARD dies at age 40

Post by Ash » Mon May 28, 2007 2:50 am

Yesterday, Sakai Izumi, better known as ZARD, died after falling from the stairs. She had been struggling with her health due to cancer for some time now, but no sign yet it had been a suicide.

ZARD did an ending song for Dragon Ball GT (Don't You See) and Sakai also wrote the DBGT opening theme DAN DAN Kokoro Hikareteku (and later on did a cover of that song).

I didn't often listen to her music, but I really liked all the themes she did for Detective Conan and Dragon Ball :"(

OMG.....that's really shocking and sad. She was a really talented artist and had a lovely voice. I'm very sorry to hear such tragic news. :(

It seems that more and more people are dying from cancer :(.

I didn't really listen her songs outside of the ones she did for GT, but "Don't You See!" was probably one of the bigger factors that got me into the Japanese music/image songs for dragonball. It made watching GT that much erm... less bad.

She didn't actually die from cancer: she fell from the stairs (weakened by cancer though).

Man, that sucks!!! I love "Don't You See!" ZARD had incredible talent.

Age 40, holy crap, way too young to die.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

I always loved "Don't You See!" and her cover of DAN DAN. RIP. :(

I'm in total shock right now...that is so incredibly sad.

ZARD was really the only J-Pop singer I absolutely loved, and her music was so well done. She will be missed.

*gobsmacked*

All I can say is condolences to her family and friends, and thank you for writing one of my favourite anime themes (Dan Dan) of all time.

Rest in peace.

Sad...Don't You See is one of my favorite themes (it also got me into other songs by Zard). I found this on youtube if anyone is interested or wants to translate:

Edit: This one is a lot more detailed and longer...but probably too much to translate. I think they even show where she fell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtvehUMwLO0

Both of the news videos show where they've set up a a tribute for fans to pay their respects. Some of the fan interviews are really sad (like the lady saying she thinks now she's singing up in heaven, and the guy saying it's disappointing that they'll never get to hear any new songs from her again). The second longer video includes some more about her history as an artist and some speculation as to whether her fall was really an accident.

This is just terrible news. I really enjoyed her music when I first heard "Don't You See!" in GT, and it's still one of my favorite songs to do at karaoke. She will definitely be missed.

Thanks, I figured it was something to that effect.

That's really sad news and she died at such a young age. I really liked her beginning and ending songs to GT. They made me smile. :(
