DragonBall Z: Movie 12 Artbook Scans.

Post by Tanooki Kuribo » Tue Jun 12, 2007 7:32 pm

So, for no real reason I just decided to scan and post some cool looking sketches from the movie 12 art book... I always liked these pre-production sketches and I know a lot of people here will find some interest in these...

When I look at these sketches I just think they had a bigger battle planned with Hitler and his army.

SSJ3 Goku....AWESOME!!

I love the scetches. When looking at them I can feel the whole organisation that have been behind each movie.

Actually, they're the different areas in hell shown in the movie. I'm pretty sure the lake on the left is the "Bloody Pond" before it gets messed up by Janemba, while the bubbles on the right are the parts of the pond after Janemba messes with the area a bit. If you remember, Goku gets caught in a "cube" of blood during one part of the fight while Janemba starts hacking away at the lake to get to him. Then again, they could be those random jelly beans floating around hell in the movie :?. Then again, the waterfall could be the place where Goku and Vegeta practice the fusion dance (I haven't seen movie 12 in a while, so I forget if there was a waterfall in that scene or not).

And I'm absolutely positive that those pokey things on the bottom right is the mountain of needles where Goku and Vegeta hide out for a while. It's also the same place where the Vegeta crying scene takes place .

Tanooki Kuribo (and others who have cool artbooks and a scanner to um, scan 'em in), you should think about making these random artbook scans threads a regular thing. Although it may not seem like it, there are quite the number of forum-ers who'd be happy to see and discuss these scans since they don't have 'em for themselves.

And yeah, that SSJ3 Goku image is awesome (saves the image).

Hmm, glad you enjoyed it. Here are two more images that are rarley seen. The pre-production color of Janemba?

Those two images are in a section in the back that showcase promotional items for the movies. Thats probley all I will be posting from this book.

Edit: Yea, I added those black lines on the top and the bottom of those pictures to cover up some text, just to make it more easy on the eyes. :D

This is the first I've heard of a movie 12 art book. Think you could scan the cover?

I'd seen a couple of those pics before and wondered where they were from. Any other interesting art/pics in that book?

Scanning takes to long, I'll take a pic...

It has all a lot of characteristics of a Daizenshuu though, thats why I just call it an art book...

It has those awesome glossy pages...

Yup. There are mini-artbooks for all movies and tv specials. Sadly, from what I've heard, the movie 8 artbook was by far the worst: merely a reprint of the anime comic under the Jump Anime Library title. Granted it had Broly character sketches too.

As for the various unseen stages of Hell, there are four in total. Goz and Mez are responsible for the "first quarter," which is the nicest and least violent (minimum security cell of Hell, I guess?). The other three are never seen even in the anime, I believe. Note that Toriyama's sketches show that the tilted hourglass waterfall is on the outskirts of "Pin's Mountain" and that Pin's Mountain can be reached from bloody pond by taking a tourist bus, indicating that all three areas in movie 12 are in the same section.

I've seen it on eBay. Very nice looking book, I'll pick it up someday.

As for the images, very nice. The purple Janemba looks pretty awesome.

Is it me, or does skinny Veku look more like Toma than Goku? :P

Oh my goodness!
I have this book too. Only difference is, my copy is in Chinese.
There's also a detailed summarized recap of all the movies that have come out (at the point movie #12 was released) and there's even pics of memorabilia that came out when the movie was being released across theatres in Japan.
The world is your's.

Er... No, not as far as I know.
There are "Anime Comics" for all "Dragon Ball Z" movies and TV specials (I think... I'm not 100% sure about the very last movies), but I believe the only actual "movie artbook" they released was this one (which isn't exactly "mini") and maybe another one for the last "Dragon Ball Z" movie (not sure).

Wow, really nice Tanooki. It hurts to see things like this because we'll probably never get it in the states... :?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Yeah, all the Z (and DB and GT) movies/specials have film comics, and Movie 13 does have an artbook. Here's the cover and the one page I've seen from it:

I just realized on the fourth image down, the bus reads "Hells Tourist".

Why would anyone want to take a tour of hell? XD

And is that a second Goku above the water fountain?
