I thought that Frieza vs Goku looked far worse. I am kinda opposed to this battle royal format from a production standpoint, it seems like they are trying to rush through it in order to get to something bigger. That does seem to be a theme with Super. While I think we all agree that Z had a big problem with being too slow paced at times, Super's cure for this seems to be never letting go of the fast forward button. It's so annoying to see so many cool ideas and setpieces just be breezed past. I really hope they'll take the time to really develop the tournament of power, with such a huge number of entrants I would say we need at the bare minimum 10 episodes showing the actual tournament, prefferably way more.JazzMazz wrote:I thought that Frieza vs Goku looked far worse. I know people have ranked staff on here before and I was bored so here's how I rank some of them based on art, animation, storyboard quality (if they do storyboards) and their speed. Just basically how skilled they are overall and how well they suit working on Super.
[spoiler]Shida – Can produce incredible animation due to his skill and position at Toei, has a very off-model but brilliantly detailed art style, can produce storyboards of a high quality.
Higashide – Has saved Super from outright bad fights due to his speed and ability to both animate very well and correct art.
Karasawa – Produces incredibly strong animation and art, can work under Super’s schedule fairly well.
Tate – Can produce interesting animation quickly and has a unique style that has enough charm to be serviceable when rushed... usually.
Yashima – Stupidly quick. His art is unappealing but his animation has a good amount of motion and he can produce interesting enough storyboards.
Manabe – Solid animation given the schedule and his art is very expressive, especially when he draws evil characters or people in pain. Those conditions tend to make the best use of his expression work.
Shimanuki – He can improve quickly and his art is usually very strong now. His work is still inconsistent however and his animation is well timed and impactful at best, stiff and awkward at worst.
Kitano – Ugly art, no notably great animation. On occasion his art is serviceable but only really for closer shots.[/spoiler]
I'll probably change my mind in future.

Goku and Vegeta should have either stuck with their RoF through the Black arc, or have gotten new outfits. The Cell armor for Vegeta is wearing out its welcome, since in Z his armor changed every arc, sometimes multiple times like in the Namek arc where he started with his Saiyan arc armor without the hip and crotch guards (which I prefer. I'd love a Figuarts of that variant), before it got wrecked by Zarbon and Recoome, forcing him to use the "older model" without the shoulder guards and the brown padding. In the Cell arc, his boots had a yellow tip when Bulma made him a new outfit before he fought Cell.
Keeping characters with their old outfits doesn't make Super feel like a new thing to me, they should have stick with their RoF outfits as they scream like "Look this is a new series!" and I never liked that Vegeta regressed to his Android arc armor when his Boo arc outfit was a much better design IMO. I didn't cared much in JSAT because felt like it was played for nostalgia (Goku was using his Saiyan/Namek arc gi too), but then in BoG (movie) and later Super just made me rolling eyes. My hopes for new outfits are saved to the next arc, but probably it won't happen

DBZ 83 and 85 both had the exact same animators too. 85 wasn't really an extra bad looking Uchiyama episode either, I wonder what happened behind the scenes that resulted in 85 coming out fine, I would guess a lot of uncredited animators from Last House, but yet 85 was still Uchiyama through and through (from what I remember).

It is surprising that 85 was fine looking. Maybe Uchiyama is really fast. He did a lot of 3-4 weeks episodes.

Little bit of bad news, at least for the next month or two.
I asked Naotoshi Shida on Twitter if he will be working on Super anytime soon, and he responded that he's not working on it.
Obviously the language barrier makes it a little hard, so his phrasing to my response isn't the clearest with regards to the future, but given his previous tweets always mentioned whether he's working or scheduled to be working on the series, I'm assuming it's probably not great news.
On the flip side, the tournament hasn't even begun yet, so while he may not be working on anything right now or scheduled for the foreseeable future, there's always a chance he'll be involved the finale!

Okay, actual concrete bad news now: Episode 67's first half has no Blu-ray corrections. I guess they deemed those few problematic shots unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Bit of a shame.
I can't imagine there will be anything but minor continuity fixes here and there, but I'll take a closer look later. Not really sure what else they would even fix. The few problematic parts of 65, maybe?

It's seems they just brushed over the blu-rays and are really focusing all their efforts on making sure this new arc looks serviceable. Eh, there have been none in this arc that have been offensive enough to recieve major corrections.
