Let's Get Mystic (Gohan Faulconer/Dub Music)

Post by Saiyavenger2941 » Tue Feb 26, 2008 3:55 pm

Ok, I've been looking for the full version of Gohan's, mainly Mystic Gohan's, theme. Two parts ("Gohan Angers"; "Gohan Angers 2") of it were released on Faulconer's CDs, but even then, a part was still missing, which included a heavier guitar part, and some more synth in the background.

The part I'm talking about starts at about 2:05. Right as it zooms in on Buu's chest.

I know there's probably little to no chance any of you have this, but I figured I'd ask anyways. I mean, you never know, right?

That sounded awesome, too bad it didn't last too long. Sadly, I don't think it's in the soundtrack discs; it's probably one of those special one shot remixes that comes up during the series time to time. Very cool nonetheless.

Here's a little tidbit about that song. "Gohan Angers 2" was an oddly edited version of the track; to the best of my knowledge, the first time the song played in "full" (according to most fans) was when Gohan was powering up (the line was "Tell them to stop it!" referring to the Cell Jr. attack on the others). That version had an extra couple of seconds at the end of it which did not appear on the CD. Similar to that, the version in the video you linked to had another ending. Here's a link to the video original version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhsD1Wp3 ... re=related The additional music is from 2:33 to 2:49 roughly.

For whatever reason, neither the Buu nor the Cell endings were included. It's possible that Faulconer only chose to put the part of the track that is most consistent on the albums, but that's really no more than speculation. Either way, it is sadly impossible to rip without voices or sfx either of the endings at this time, so we're stuck with a 75% complete version of the song.

Hmm the part at 2:05 of that vid sounds identical to 0:45 of the original Gohan Angers track to me. Maybe I'm missing something?

I know this may be obvious, but how about emailing Faulconer? I recall that the DBZ CD page on his site had an email address. In fact, it encouraged people to let him know which pieces they wanted most should another CD materialise. I'm not sure how long ago Volume VI came out... is it possible that he'll release another CD of material?

Emailing Faulconer would be completely useless on this. He doesn't have a *&$^% clue. There are very specific reasons for this.....

The real guy to ask would be Mike Smith but he doesn't hang out online at all unfortunately.

Forgive me for not knowing but who is Mike Smith? He worked on the dub music as well, or something else?

Actually, it just starts out like it. If you listen on, there are some definite differences, with some added synth-guitars.

Mike Smith "arranged and performed" the majority of the "Faulconer" tracks. I was kinda the "additional music" guy, though I did arrange and perform a lot of major themes (Pikkon, 17-18, Garlic Jr, IMperfect Cell, etc)

Maybe I'm getting the wrong idea from your posts about Faulconer, but you make it seem as if he did not make much if any music on the dragon ball z dub. He did compose everything right?

hmm, I'm not gonna answer that directly....cause technically....well...let me just post a link to what arrangments are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrangement

That's what I officially claim along with editing and performance (synths and guitar)

Oh my, I assume my guess was right. Level of respect for Faulconer: additional drop.

You should not base respect on such little information.

That does not tell me anything about who made most of the music.
For all I know faulconer could of made my fave tracks, and everyone else could of made the ones that I don't really like. Of course it could be the other way around, but either way I won't judge people based on links and hints.

Actually, I do wonder about this.

I emailed Faulconer back in '04 about one of his songs. It's a piece that's only appeared once or twice in the whole series, a little melody played at moments like when Goku raised his head to say goodbye to his friends as Cell Form 2 was self-destructing. I remember really liking that piece.

Anyhow, when I emailed him, I got a reply about 3 days later, thanking me for contacting him. Then, the next album was released a while later, with a 3 minute version of this piece I really liked, in 2 versions; Episodic Trunks and Heaven Sent Trunks on volume 5.

Now, its possible these are completely unrelated, I'm not sure, but it certainly was surprising.

Seriously, I'd consider messaging Faulconer, I doubt he's got much else to do.
I love humans, always seeing patterns in things that aren't there.

Heaven Sent Trunks is actually a clip from Episodic Trunks. It's a tribute to Bruce's cluelessness that both of those tracks shipped.

btw, I finally uploaded a shot of our(Mike and I) credits in the show:
