Favorite OP and ED Theme?

Post by BootyCheeksJohnson » Fri May 03, 2024 12:31 am

Dragon Ball is iconic around the world and it seems as though the theme songs are just as iconic as the actual content in the shows themselves. So which one is your personal favorite? If you can't pick just one then feel free to rank them.

My favorite OP is Makafushigi Adobencha (Mystical Adventure) from Dragon Ball. I think it sets the fun adventure vibe better than any of the OP's that came after. It's also very musically layered too.
My favorite ED is We Were Angels from Z. I don't know what it is but I just find it the most catchy. Something about Zenkai Power just put me off.
Since I don't know all the ED's I'll just rank the OP's.
1. Makafushigi Adobencha
2. Dragon Soul (I was introduced to the series through the Kai dub as a 10 year old... So biased)
3. Cha-La Head-Cha-La
4. We gotta Power
5. Dan Dan (I go back and forth on 4 & 5)
6. Limit Break x Survivor
7. Chozetsu Dynamic (not bad, but this one just didn't do anything for me)

Here's to hoping Daima has a great opening theme.
We need a Steve Simmons retranslation of the manga.

Just a quick chime-in, not much point in romanizing loanwords in this manner, because, well, it's a loanword.

As far as the question... haven't quite thought of it yet but that specific one is up there for sure.

We Were Angels is about the only noteworthy ED that I have a preference for, not too into Romantic Ageru Yo (even if Kohei Tanaka arranged that as well as the complimentary OP).

Fair point I think I was getting a bit too literal there.

Yes, because as a generic US sitcom intro guitar riff, it's anything but.

He's referring to this one:

It does get confusing when Funimation has like 5 different themes for one series.

Oh, he also said "ending" rather than "opening", my bad.

Huh. My bad, my brain read opening.

He's probably referring to this then https://youtu.be/W7WqkQiHxkA?si=ROC9upCGOICrNYQm

(Which was also used for the remastered dub on the U.S Music option for the entire series just with the Zenkai Power/We Were Angels animation instead of the custom ending footage.)

Neat thread idea~~

My rankings are a bit cliché, but as far as OPs go:

1 - Chala Head Chala
2 - Makafushigi Adventure
3 - Dan Dan
4 - X Survivor
5 - We Gotta Power
6 - Chozetsu Dynamic

EDs:

1 - Don't you see
2 - Romantic Ageru Yo
3 - Blue Velvet
4 - Machine Gun
5 - Hitori Janai
6 - Zenkai Power
7 - We were Angels

I don't remember the Super Ending songs at all, unfortunately.

Toei giving the rest of the world that god awful "Fight it Out" song while giving Japan a pretty solid banger of an opening is a flex if I ever saw one.

Or maybe someone at Fuji Tv rightfully told Toei that Fight it Out was shit and needed to be replaced. I dunno.

This forum is so over-dramatic that it's not even funny.

I am contractually obligated as a person of Gender to offer that the best Opening theme is Genkai Toppa x Survivor, as originally performed by the genderless monarch, Kiina. It's such a fun, high-energy song, and I'm really happy to see it having become the center of Dragon Ball Super identity. Bring in someone as popular as Kiina to perform the vocals really helped cement the song's identity, and I think it's really cool as Kiina has consistently been more than happy to be associated with the song and Dragon Ball. It makes me hopeful that Kiina will perform the next vocal theme song for the next Dragon Ball animated series.

Aren't we all people of gender though? Also Kiina is a very talented singer and having looked them up that's cool that a non-binary (or "genderless" as they went by) identifying person got to be the voice behind the OP of the biggest arc of a franchise like Dragon Ball.
