I immediately noticed that most (but not all) of the artwork of the game's playable characters are reused from the pay-to-win mobile game Dragon Ball Legends (which I used to play). A few pieces of artwork for some characters are reused from Dokkan Battle (which I also used to play) as well. What if Sparking! Zero reuses character voice clips (both Japanese and English) from both games?

^ When there are beautiful artworks in various games, if I were Bandai Namco, I would have told them that all drawings created must be put in a common folder for all DB games to access.

Legends has gorgeous, carefully crafted art that "goes to waste" when it comes to other games, and Dokkan Battle has thousands of pictures from all characters, major or minor, which all could have been official anime art.

Just with Dokkan Battle alone, devs from any fighting game could pick among dozens of portraits to choose the best and most stylish for every form of every character... Although they might not have them in high resolution, but they could save it apart as high-res renders for other products when they create it and just reduce the resolution on the copy that goes into the game assets.

Anyway, it's really a shame that such beautiful portraits as in Legends or such numerous portraits as in Dokkan Battle won't be used for the presentation of games like Sparking Zero, which could turn out to have basic 3D models captures meant to be portraits that will never look as good as actual 2D drawings...

It could be useful even for the menus: remember Budokai Tenkaichi 3 with its beautiful 2D renders guiding you through the menus and game modes? How charming!

The Japanese site hasn't been updated with the info of the latest trailer at the time of this post, but the English site has been updated.

The versions of Gohan are confirmed as "Gohan (Kid)" and "Gohan (Adult)" (despite him not being technically an adult when he's still in high school), so the base post has been updated accordingly.

The Japanese website has placed the new characters on the official page, so I moved their positions accordingly here.

Thread update:

Added a message in the intro that warns people that not being connected to your forum account will mess up some rows of portrait, probably due to ads (which seem to mess up things even when they are not appearing). When connected, everything displays properly.

General overhaul of the presentation, which is hopefully nicer to the eye and now organized in a way that highlights the base characters and shows their available transformations (from what we can infer, at least) below on a separate "sub-folder" row. This allows you to have a quick view of what are separate characters (or separate versions of a same character) and in-game transformations of those versions.

Some characters have been revealed in a transformed state without any "lower" form being shown for now. In the meantime, the transformation is presented as the base form from what we know so far. For example, we've only seen Gotenks as a Super Saiyan but we still have no proof of his untransformed form being there (even if it seems logical that it will be included). So for now, his Super Saiyan form is framed as the base form. When the untransformed state is shown, the Super Saiyan state will be "downgraded" to a simple form rather than the base character.

I still display Master Roshi [Max Power] as his own character because he wears his Super clothes unlike the regular form who wears his classic clothes. But since he is not specified as being "Super", I might be wrong and it could be that two alternate costumes were used in the trailers (Videl has been shown to have alternate costumes) so it could actually be a simple transformation with alternate costumes. Don't hesitate to tell me if I should classify him as a simple transformation rather than an alternate version, because the clothes tell me it's a different version but the generic name tells me he's actually the same base character with a different costume!

The card frame has been updated to include a metal effect on the edge and a cover more akin to the franchise (a black background with the Dragon Balls). I don't take credit for that appearance (the previous one was not from me either, it was from Rainbow Six Siege portraits), this new version is actually taken from the new upcoming card game and modified to have a square shape rather than the usual card shape.

A few portraits have been updated or changed here and there.

For what it's worth, the Japanese site doesn't specify Gogeta as being from Super, it's just "Gogeta".
Usually goes by "Kevtrev" elsewhere online.
Draws comics that may or may not have been blatantly inspired by Akira Toriyama's manga.

^ Yeah, there was also a case like this before (with Broly, I think) and I wrote back then that for coherence and clarity's sake, I'll follow the English official names even if there are oddities or discrepancies compared to the Japanese site.

The English team might be aware of things we don't know yet and describe versions on their own terms, which can be a possible hint of Z versions to come for Broly or Gogeta (which is to be expected, as DLC if nothing else).

Anyway, I'll stick with the names coming from a same source and not needing transliteration from the Japanese writings (which can be interpreted in various ways that wouldn't necessarily match with a same official source).
