Problem ripping GT Season One footage

Post by Kaboom » Mon Jan 12, 2009 3:52 pm

I've been trying to rip some footage from my Remastered GT set for the last day or two, to contribute to an AMV project I'm working on. But DVD Decrypter keeps running into the same issue no matter which disc I'm trying to rip from. It gets a portion of the way through with the .VOB (about half if I'm lucky), before the "Read Errors" line starts doing about 20 or so "Retries," displaying this in the log over and over for each attempt:

Code: Select all

I 14:38:37 CDB Interpretation: Test Unit Ready
I 14:38:37 [1:0:0] TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L532B DE04 (D:) (ATA)
I 14:38:37 CDB: 25 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
I 14:38:37 CDB Interpretation: Read Capacity
I 14:38:37 BUFFER: 00 3E 3D 5F 00 00 08 00
I 14:38:37 [1:0:0] TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L532B DE04 (D:) (ATA)
I 14:38:37 CDB: 28 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00
I 14:38:37 CDB Interpretation: Read (10) - Sector: 0
I 14:38:37 BUFFER: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
I 14:38:39 [1:0:0] TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L532B DE04 (D:) (ATA)
I 14:38:39 CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00
Then eventually it gives up, and displays this message...

Code: Select all

I/O Error!
Device: [1:0:0 TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L532B DE04 (D:) (ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: 28 00 00 27 77 51 00 00 01 00
Interpretation: Read (10) - Sector 2586449

Sense Area: F0 00 03 27 77 51 0A 00 00 00 00 11 00 00 00 00 00
Interpretation: Unrecovered Read Error
...With, of course, the options of Abort, Retry, Ignore. If I choose Ignore, sometimes it will go on to skip that particular file (the entire VOB) and SOMETIMES successfully rip another if I've queued it to rip more than one.

I'm having the same problem with my single release of DBZ Movie 8. THAT I got used, so if that was the only disc having this I might have chalked the problem up to being a damaged disc, since it does have a few small scratches here and there. The disc still plays perfectly fine, however. So does GT Season One. It's brand-new, I'm the only one who's handled the discs at all, and there is ZERO damage to the actual disc.

It's happening no matter which disc of GT S1 I try it on. Nothing else runs into this problem. I'm ripping my remastered Z series and movie discs, as well as my couple DragonBall discs, with no problem whatsoever.

So, I have absolutely no idea how to interpret the problem. Is it something wrong with my drive or DVD Decrypter's settings? Is it perhaps a faultily-authored set? If so, would exchanging it for another copy serve any purpose? And has anyone else run into this problem with GT Season One in particular?

I actually had the same problem ripping GT. I narrowed the problem down to just the opening. After I figured that out, for the opening I disabled all cells except the very last one and that worked.

At any rate, I ripped the opening to be stand alone. You should try what I tried, rip just the episodes (no opening, recap, title card, or closing). It saves on disc space.

Each episode (with no opening/recap/titlecard/closing), as far as I know, are contained on chapters in intervals of 10 starting with 3 and 4, then again at 8 and 9.

Chapter 3 + Chapter 4 = Episode 1
Chapter 8 + Chapter 9 = Episode 2
Chapter 13 + Chapter 14 = Episode 3
Chapter 18 + Chapter 19 = Episode 4
Chapter 23 + Chapter 24 = Episode 5
Chapter 28 + Chapter 29 = Episode 6
Chapter 33 + Chapter 34 = Episode 7

My only frame of reference is the GT box sets, but I know that they are set up in the exact manner that Z sets are. I see no reason that the Z sets should be arranged differently.

EDIT: Oh! You were talking about GT sets. Well, there ya go!

Thanks, you're a lifesaver. I'll try that.

Yeah, I've been attempting to rip the entire VOBs, openings/endings and all. I'll go into chapter mode this time. Funny thing is, it MUST be different from the Z sets somehow, because I've been ripping those the same way no problem...

EDIT: Worked like a charm. Thanks again.
