Ahh, I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that.

But yeah, Freeza needs to be recasted. Anyone have any ideas for actors they'd like to see?

Andrew Chandler. Anyone else is unacceptable. Kai dub will suck if he is not Freeza, fgsfds.

My opinion.

I'm probably gonna get lynched for suggesting this, but for the Ginyu Force intro, Funi should replace the insert song with a parody of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers theme, that way English audiences will get the joke as easily as Japanese fans.

Yeah I know man, Linda Young totally ruined the Majin Buu arc for me in the dub.

No...just...no. The audience isn't stupid, they're going to get the joke.

That's how bad it was, bro. Recast Freeza, save the show.

I think most American fans watching have no idea what Super Sentai is. But I'd bet if they played a parody of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, I think most fans would instantly get the joke. I sure as hell didn't know why everyone was making a big deal out of the scene until I looked around here and everyone was saying that it reminded them of the Super Sentai theme. But if I and other American fans heard the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers theme playing in the background, we would probably love the scene.

Well, just like Power Rangers, there's been multiple themes for Sentai. I wouldn't be particularly against a change like that, but I think most would get the joke either way. Specially if they dubbed whatever it is they're saying.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Well, there are a lot of Power Rangers themes, but I think that the only one that people remember is the first one.

I mainly would want the scene to be just as accessible to a US Audience as it is to a Japanese audience. To most of us, it would probably just be a purposefully cheesy scene, but for the Japanese fans, it's a little bit more special. So I think American fans should be able to get the special moment from that scene as well.

The song already sounds like Mighty Morphin' right when it starts. I'd rather they just dub the song and replace "tokusentai" with "Ginyu Force" or something.

Johnny Yong Bosch needs to be thrown into a redub somewhere on the Ginyu force for ironic purposes. Preferably Jheese.

The scene has it's own merit. There is absolutely no need to change anything. This isn't the nineties anymore. Dubs are expected to be accurate, changing the music would be inaccurate.

Since Toku Sentai (Special Task Force) is based off Super Sentai (the original Japanese version of Power Rangers), it would make the most sence to call them the Special Rangers. Plus, it makes them sound even more lame! Hahaha! It's even the same amount of syllables! :D

I don't believe Sabat actually voices Cell in any games. Clarke just records under an assumed name.
Well, Clarke played Scar in the original Fullmetal Alchemist series, and so far Scar is the only announced character for the new series to be recast other than Alphonse. (Al being recast only because Aaron Dismuke hit puberty.) If they haven't got him for FMA, I doubt they'll be able to get him for Dragon Ball Kai.

As for Schemmel... He'll definitely be one of the tougher ones to get due to being based in New York now, but for all intents and purposes he is the English Goku. (Or perhaps, "Funimation Goku" would be more accurate with Corlett and Kelamis in the mix from years ago.) Because of that, I can see them going to special effort to get him.

I had no idea what the Super Sentai theme sounds like, nor does 99.9% of the american population.

I do know the Power Rangers theme though, even though I rarely watched it.

Maybe... But it is FUNimation. They'd probably recast him because it would be cheaper. Having him do the voice for Gokuh in a long anime series is a lot different than having him do the lines for a single game. A game would probably only take a single day.

I could have sworn there was an interview saying Sean Schemmel recorded certain DBZ movies or something NY. Why would it be difficult?

Is it more accurate to blindly copy the original, or to invoke the same feelings as the original?

In this case? Blindly Copy.
DBK would still be aimed at kids from nowadays to some degree, so they'd be throwing in the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers theme, and none of the kids would get it. Then, the older Anime Fans unlike most American Dragon Ball Fans who like Accuracy in their dubbing would get upset. They'd only be making a small group of people happy by doing that.

Not to mention Saban owns Power Rangers, so they'd probably have to pay royalties to get the theme song's Tune, it's safer and cheaper just to dub the song as-is.

Fixed that for ya. Anyway, I think FUNi wouldn't even try that; they'd probably keep the tune, as it sounds just generically super-pumped-up to be a Power Rangers theme.

Can't say I don't love it though.
