I was just curious to know if there was info on all the countries DB has been in, and the different dub(s) in or dub used per region, with year it was introduced. If EX could dig up that info, it would make for a good section!

As of 1999 there were only 12 languages other than Japanese across 15 different countries.

1: French
France in 1988; in 1995 the DBZ movies start hitting theatres

2: Spanish
Spain in 1990; paves road to huge wave of anime success in 1992, by which time DB is the number 1 children's show.

Mexico in 1995; is rated number one show in its timeslot.

3: Dutch
Belgium in 1988 on tv.

4: Italian
Italy in 1990 on a regional channel. Seeing its success, a national channel starts playing it as of 1996.

5: Greek
Greece in 1995, countrywide on tv.

6: Filipino
Phillipines in 1995; debuted "Live" in Manilla in June of that year. Hironobu Kageyama performed live at the presentation.

7: Bahasa Indonesia
Indonesia debutes in 1996.

8: Thai
Thailand debutes DB in 1988.

9: Korean
Korea in 1991; DB is released only on video, but meets huge success.

10: Chinese
Taiwan in 1995; only one (Dragonball) movie is shown in Taiwan (on tv across the country) in original Japanese dubbing, subtitled in Chinese.

Hong Kong in 1988; as of 1990 the movies are also released, and Trunks becomes Hong Kong's favorite character by far in national polls.

11: English
North America in 1995 across 80 channels throughout the continent.

12: Portuguese
Bresil in 1996.

I think Britain's was 1998/1997, it would have ended early but Cartoon Network was persistant in repeating the whole series from episode 1, and so the Buu saga only came about in 2003.

A much more accurate source than mine. Mine was from the french version of Daizenshuu 7 that added in the little innacurate snippet of info I provided. It also came out in 1999 so it was outdated. Sorry for wasting everybody's time!

The list only counts countries that have shown Dragon Ball Z (and Z only) up to January 2003. It's still entirely possible that countries are missing though, and I wouldn't really be surprised if there were. This just seems like one of those things that's very hard to keep track of...

Actually, I've always wondered if they show the French dub in Quebec? I travelled through the province several years back and remember seeing French Simpsons, French Dukes of Hazzard, etc. Do you know if French Dragonball is shown anywhere throughout Quebec?

They showed the entire DB dub over here actually, though for some reason under the Z opening. o_O
I guess they had problems with getting rights to Z because they never passed the Saiyan Saga.
