If you want a non-crap version, just watch it in Japanese. That's what it's there for!

I know, but actually obtaining the movie legally subbed is the problem.Gaffer Tape wrote:If you want a non-crap version, just watch it in Japanese. That's what it's there for!

I thought he was talking about the original dub. The redub can't be crap because they're doing it "Kai" style. You know, actually accurate.Metalwario64 wrote: ...Except that it was just announced? Unless you are implying that this is dub only, which wouldn't make a bit of sense...

Re: DragonBall Movie 1 Coming To DVD... Again
How could I be talking about the original, or any, dub if I'm referring to the Japanese version?
Anyway, the dub of Kai hasn't been widely seen yet, so there could be plenty of crappy things about it. Hopefully that's not the case, but let's not assume it's wonderful and accurate. If FUNimation has taught us anything, it's to err on the side of caution.

Well, they're not going to pull a "Ultimate Uncut" and recycle lines from the Ocean dub.Gaffer Tape wrote:How could I be talking about the original, or any, dub if I'm referring to the Japanese version?

But as you said, we don't don't for sure if it's going to be accurate and FUNimation has mislead us in the past.

Re: DragonBall Movie 1 Coming To DVD... Again
Can't say we know that for sure. Even if we were to assume that Kai is going to be amazingly accurate, this isn't Kai. It's a redub of a product they've dubbed before (granted, you could make the same argument for Kai, but...), so for all we know they might. Again, the safest bet is just to watch the Japanese version.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote: Well, they're not going to pull a "Ultimate Uncut" and recycle lines from the Ocean dub.

I bought the Dbox single of this movie a while back, but I'll probably pick this up just to have the subs.

It's not as if they're going to recycle lines from the original dub, so what's the worst they could do? I liked Dragon Ball TV series dub, so if it's up to par with that I wouldn't mind.Gaffer Tape wrote:Can't say we know that for sure. And as you said, even if they dub turns out sucky there's always the Japanese version.

Re: DragonBall Movie 1 Coming To DVD... Again
Again, why do you assume that? They recycled lines when they redubbed DBZ. They recycled lines when they redubbed the first 13 episodes of DB. Why would you assume they won't do that to a certain extent for this movie?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote: It's not as if they're going to recycle lines from the original dub, so what's the worst they could do?

Ever since they announced the DBox, FUNi seems to be giving much more care to Dragonball. The DBox dub can't be used as an argument. It was an afterthought. Their Kai dub, done post Dbox, seems to show some real promise. I expect the same quality out of the Movie 1 dub.

I expect it from them as well. Doesn't necessarily mean they will. I hope they will. Chances seem good they will. It's just too early (especially considering most of us haven't seen anything but a 30 second trailer and blurry camcorder footage of Kai) to state anything for certain. That's all I'm saying.

Like I said, there's some real promise being shown. Obviously, we'll have to wait another month to know for sure.Gaffer Tape wrote:I expect it from them as well. Doesn't necessarily mean they will. Well, those lines weren't exactly accurate and if FUNi is going to redub the movie in the same vein as Kai, then it's going to be accurate.Gaffer Tape wrote:Again, why do you assume that? Re: DragonBall Movie 1 Coming To DVD... Again
Again, that's what I'm saying! What indication has been given that they're going the Kai route on this movie? You could very well be right. They might be. But it is just a redub, not a new (or even "new") thing. And every other redub of a Dragon Ball property they've ever done has been a half-assed, recycled line job. Considering that this is a niche, DB release, not a hot new item like Kai, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the first dub lines were left intact. Precedent would agree with me. I hope I'm wrong, and I hope you're right, but there's no indication either way right now. But since there's no evidence, this is really just a circular argument anyway, and since I really need sleep, I concede for right now.

I get where you're coming from, there is no evidence but we can only hope that FUNi has changed and this redub won't be half assed.

Re: DragonBall Movie 1 Coming To DVD... Again
Pros: We will get it bilingual and uncut.
Cons: Not a Double Feature Steel cased release ala the Z movies. ((Not a problem for me since I have the movies 2,3 and 4 set))

Re: DragonBall Movie 1 Coming To DVD... Again
will be funi releasing it on blu-ray too ??? or only dvd ? and which format ? 4:3 or dragonbox like in 16:9 ???
The word "KAI" means in the old North Germanic language Frisian "Kämpfer engl. Fighter" respectively "Krieger engl. Warrior"!

The aspect ratio hasn't been specified and it's only been announced for DVD.Treklin wrote:will be funi releasing it on blu-ray too ??? or only dvd ? and which format ? 4:3 or dragonbox like in 16:9 ???
