Re: Kai Episode 52 (11 April 2010)
Freeza definitely ran long.
9 episodes too long, to be exact.
If they were going to go 3 chapters per episode, which seems to be the rough goal for Kai, it should have been over at episode 45.
Saiyan arc was exactly 3:1 - 48 manga chapters in 16 episodes.
Freeza arc though was 87 manga chapters in 38 episodes - 2.3:1.
If they continue at the rate they settled into during Freeza with the remaining 191 chapters, Kai will go another 83 episodes - a total of 136 episodes. If they speed up back to 3:1, they'll get it down to 117 (at 3:1, Androids/Cell should be a 30 episode saga, and Boo should be 33). So I'd bet money that the final number will be somewhere in that range 117-136. In any case, it's now inconceivable for the series to be an exact 100 episodes (but I don't think anyone ever seriously believed that number).
Something tells me though that the reason Freeza ran long is because they made a conscious decision to slow down the series a little because it's doing unexpectedly well. The longer it goes, the more advertising and DVDs they can sell.

Haha, they kept the part where he slapped the crap out of Freeza. Very nice.

I don't consider last episode that bad, except that part with Vegeta: ''Kakarotto, you are super saiya-jin??!'' That's pretty silly plothole, but this episode rock'd indeed! I wasn't that pissed off from re-drawn scenes which is amazing too.

Lol I remember thinking that too, and feeling relieved as well when I saw it was just some kind of technique.Bura wrote: I remember I was always relieved when Goku said "I quit" and turned back to his normal self. Back in the day I feared that SSJ was permanent... so I was really glad *hee-hee*.

They really need to fix the ghosting problem, its killing the scenes. What's even funnier that they redraw the entire thing, and yet its still ghosted.

I'm pretty sure that's intentional. It seems to be an effect used in many modern anime during fast paced animation and scenes.Vino wrote:They really need to fix the ghosting problem, its killing the scenes. What's even funnier that they redraw the entire thing, and yet its still ghosted.

There should've been a moment of silence (aka, cut the music) when Freeza was cut in half.
I noticed some sloppy tracing here and there.
Other than that, great episode.

Yeah, I was expecting something like that. The whole thing happened way too fast and wasn't nearly as dramatic as it could/should have been. Other than that it was a good episode.Rory wrote:There should've been a moment of silence (aka, cut the music) when Freeza was cut in half.

I'm sure it would've been more dramatic if you didn't know it was going to happen.

Dramatic isn't the same as surprising. I was expecting it to be dramatic, but it just happened like there was nothing special about it. Then there was one line from the announcer and the ending music kicked in. Felt really odd. Like "Oh crap, we padded out the episode with too much filler, now we have to fit the ending into 10 seconds".

Yeah, they've done this with other episodes as well. They really could've left the "Freeza being cut" part for next time or just tried to end the episode less abruptly. It's nothing to die for, but still... I really would have loved it if for instances like this one they just inserted a new epic picture and added an extra 20 seconds of narration to finish up properly.

If a 6 second cage fight between a couple of newbies ending with a simple right cross to the easy button can be dramatic, then I think the most powerful authority in the galaxy being cut in half can be dramatic, too, even if it isn't in slow motion.
A matter of taste, I guess.

What they are trying to say is that the soundtrack for that moment wasn´t dramatic at all. And I agree. It just carried on like Goku was still dodging the ki discs or something.

I understand exactly what they're trying to say. What I'm saying is that I think that it would still be dramatic, silence or not, if you didn't know it was going to happen.rereboy wrote:What they are trying to say is that the soundtrack for that moment wasn´t dramatic at all. They also fixed the SFX so that it actually matched the slapping, though they considerably shortened the slapping and removed the scene of Kaio dancing around in joy over it. However, this is a good thing. One scene short of Sean's Kaio.Big Momma wrote:Haha, they kept the part where he slapped the crap out of Freeza. Very nice.

Speaking of Sean's Kaio, there will NEVER be a good dub of Dragon Ball Kai/Z until they recast it from the ground up.
No amount of faithful translation and dialogue can fix an absolute piece of shit voice characterization.

I'd just be happy if they recast Schemmel as Kaio. The rest of the cast I feel is at least salvageable... even Frieza.

Re: Kai Episode 52 (11 April 2010)
Good episode. I was disappointed that the episode ended right after Frieza got sliced in two, but it works.
One thing that I've noticed about Goku's character is that he generally doesn't hate anyone. Sure, he has a reason to hate Frieza, but he avenged Krillin once he beat up Frieza.
Here's an example of what I mean: Say someone was picking on your little brother. It pissed you off, and you wanted to do something about it. Wouldn't you feel satisfied just beating up the person who was picking on your brother, instead of doing something extreme (like torching the person's house, or something)? Goku felt like he avenged Krillin by beating the crap out of Frieza, and he could have easily killed Frieza if he wanted, but he didn't, because he avenged Krillin. That's part of the reason he stopped fighting. Goku sees the villians of DBZ as opponents. That's what I think, at least.
