But here's a problem... it's an American release. You can't have a Dragon Ball release in America without a dub.

Sure we can. Why not? Just because it hasn't happened since VHS doesn't mean it can't happen. Also doesn't mean a limited release of such a product might not be a bad idea, especially if it manages to lower to costs. I have no interest in a dub, yet I pay for one with every single DVD I've bought.

Yes, I know the chances of this are nil, and Dragon Ball fandom thrives off of people who only watch dubs, it seems. But I can dream, damnit! I can dream...

I'm pretty sure we're getting the Gurren Lagann movies without a dub.

...although....if they have/ever do announce a dub for them, then I'll probably cream my pants.

Yeah, but I don't think the fans will look at it the same way they look at something they used to watch in their childhood.

And Steph Nadolny! Hands down, the best English Goku there is.
She definatly captures the character extremely well.. if only they followed suite and allowed her to dub Adult Goku<.<..

In this day and age I assume this will be uncut and video wise it doesn't matter as I'll just create a Dual-Audio Dragon Box Version from my Movie Box.
But I'm curious as to what video source they're using.. and whether or not this is a FUNi Remastered or a Dragon Box version..

This is mind boggling..

Except there are infinitely more people who would bother(and prefer!) to watch TTGL in Japanese than there are for Dragon Ball anything.

Although, I suppose there's a better chance at a sub-only release if it doesn't have a Z on it, but it's still slim as hell.

This is like comparing American Idol to Arrested Development.

Bandai Entertainment has a precedent for doing sub-only releases. Has Funimation ever done a Sub-only DVD release?

Never. Only time that even came close was having the Japanese language as default on the Dragon Boxes.

What the hell, so it's actually and cut out version? Looks like I'll keep the DVD rip from Dragon Box with czech subtitles from local fansub group on my hard drive for some time.

They released Ultraman Tiga sub-only, but the dub audio for that probably never would have synced up with the uncut video properly, and I'm not sure every episode was even dubbed in the first place. It was also a series they released for 4Kids, so they might not have even had any hand in the production of the discs' content at all.

Anyway, I find it disappointing that some people might boycott this release just because of potential dub casting issues. After fifteen years years, we might finally get an uncut English version! I already own the Dragon Box single, but I'd consider buying this just to support it, if it really is uncut. It's amazing that it's even getting a single release, because DB Movie 2 never got that. FUNi made me double dip on the other two movies just to get that one. :?

Not only is it not Z, but it's also not GT either, nor is it the Piccolo arcs or anything else with any substantial action in it. It's very early Dragonball in all it's silly panty-humor adventure glory. The Broli fanbase wouldn't buy this no matter how many dubs you threw onto it.

Wouldn't it be possible to include both an uncut, Japanese sub-only version and the old cut English dub-only version on the disc, though? Probably wouldn't impact the sales that badly.

The movie is only 50 minutes long, so there should be plenty of room to slap two separate copies onto the same disc. They might even be able to fit it all on a single layer disc, too.

Exactly. FUNimation will never and I repeat never, release a sub-only Dragon Ball DVD. It hasn't happened and will never happen, no matter what you sub fans say.

That box art... it looks lazy. Is it really easier for them to just slap some clipart of the gang on the Seasons box design, than it is to take a poster from the movie and slap the American logo on it?

It'd probably be harder. They'd have to change the colors of the season set design, put "Movie One" on it, slap some clip art on, and then slap the American logo on it.

I'm pretty pumped because I've never sat through the entire thing. I had a fan subbed version about 10 years ago but I never sat through it. So I'm pretty excited. I do have the Dragon Ball Movie Box, but this wasn't released in it. Instead it had that "Movie 14" or 10th Anniversary Special.

Ugh, her as Adult Goku? I could never get used to that. Since Steph didn't get the part for Gohan in Kai it makes me wonder if they'll change kid Goku's voice too. If they do, I really hope Kara Edwards gets the part. She voiced Goten so well and I'm sure she'd be excelent as kid Goku too. Anyways, I really hope FUNi will clarrify our unanswered questions soon!
- Been a Dragon Ball fan ever since 1995 (at the time, I was 7 years old).
- I prefer Saffron Henderson's Kid Gohan and Kid Goku over Stephanie Nadolny's.
- I still hope for a redub of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z with FUNimation's current cast.
- I prefer to watch Dragon Ball Z with the Faulconer Score, however I do not mind the original Japanese score.

I'm pretty sure Clickenbeard voices Kid Goku in Kai, so she'll probably do it if they re-dub this.

Ew, no way. Edwards "child voice," from what I've heard, is far too screechy, and I personally hope they recast her in the Kai dub for Goten. I'll take Clinkenbeard as Goku before her.
