Ok guys, this is strange...

I just watched two episodes of a Dragon Ball Dub... and I didn't hate it...

Sure they still ignore Son's surname, and they said "LAUNCH", "TIEN SHINHAN" and "Flying Nimbus"... but... everything else about the script was... good....
And Sabat's Piccolo is so much better... And Gohan sounds like an actual 4 year old... It's all so... great...

I think Hell has frozen over...

Also, anyone notice that during the Flashback to Dragon Ball, they replaced the Japanese text with "TENKAICHI BUDOKAI" In romanji?

Yeah, it was almost hard not to notice.

It was probably NickToons idea for whatever reason. Something we won't ever learn.

I watched the double premiere. It was pretty awesome. Except for the glitches that came up quite a bit. What was the deal with that?

I thought Vic's Dragon Soul sounded like shit when I first heard it, but after a few listens I guess it's okay. The problem is that it sounds like he's trying way too hard... He's louder and more energetic than the original. Sean's is waaaay better though.

I loved the double premiere, and I thought it was really cool that a bunch of my friends texted me freaking out about Dragon Ball being back on TV. I'm catching tonight's re-runs as well. Gotta say, the commercials are quite snazzy, if a bit vague. Nothing will ever beat Toonami's DBZ promos from back in the day though.

I'm going to be watching the re-runs as well just to make sure that I am not dreaming that I am seeing an accurate dub of Dragon Ball.

They're probably gonna change some episode titles for the TV broadcast.

So who noticed when they were doing the intro about Goku that they edited over the Japanese text for the Tenkaichi Budokai tournament, because I did. LOL!

First...why did Vic sing Dragon Soul? I don't want to sound mean...but jeez, it was awful. His voice kept cracking, he kept randomly screaming words, and wasn't entirely following the beat. Schemmel did the far better version.

And the scar thing still annoys me. Some odd choice of changes at times. But, edits aside, it's fine.

and yeah, I noticed the text. Rather odd looking.

It's a shame Vic Mignogna's voice was so raspy during the OP; his regular/natural singing voice sounds fine, so why the rasp?

I didn't get to see the episode (it'll reair though) but I can't help but wonder if that editing over the Japanese text with English was something 4Kids asked Funi to do as part of the deal for airing it on their block. I can't imagine NickToons would ask something like that. My guess is there's just one edited version and it applies to both channels.

Guys, Farmer w/ Shotgun quit his habit. He hasn't done that since 1997. I say we give him a round of applause. I kid. But seriously, why has no one pointed this out yet?

Because truth be told, it's an obvious edit. If they were to leave in the cigarette, then I'd give Nicktoons and 4Kids major kudos for leniency.

Dammit you beat me to it!

Oh well, I like Vic's, but I still like Sean's a bit better because the flow is a bit better, and the vocal performance is smoother. Vic's I liked because of the energy he gave. That's all I got for now, and when I get home I'll catch the repeat at 11.
Yeah, I didn't cringe when I heard Vic sing the shortened OP. It *is* actually better than Sean's version. No one can top the original Tanimoto Takayoshi JP version, of course. (I already made the 58-second JP edit of it.) The episode title cards have a different font -- and larger, too. I guess it's to make it easier to read for the kids watching.

In other things, yeah, the eyecatches (no "r", guys) are gone, replaced by Nicktoons' own eyecatches. They're cute, but I can live without them for the TV broadcast. (And yes, the whole first segment was the entirety of the recap, the short OP, the episode title card, and Act 1. Amazing for a kids' network to run a complete first act of a show without any breaks like on other networks.) "Yeah! Break! Care! Break!" was also another casualty of the US broadcast. However, the Toei Animation/FUNimation closing logos are a nice, classy touch to finish the show.

One other thing caught my eye during the lower-third credits: "Video Editing and Production: OCEAN PRODUCTIONS, INC." - hmm?

I smiled at the Toei logo, myself. I thought it was really great that it was there.

I normally like Vic's singing, but not here. He struck me as having this, "I'm trying to sound cool" sound to his singing. Sean just kinda sang the lyrics for what they were...and it worked better in my opinion.

PS: Does anybody know for a fact that Schemmel's version was auto-tuned? That sounds purely like speculation from what I've read.

Personally, I'm hoping that Kai does really well on TV, and that way FUNimation can eventually come to Nicktoons and be like, "Well, um, ya know...we have this show called 'One Piece'..."

If what's going on with "Kai" is any indicator...then that means One Piece would be going right back to 4kids.
