Favorite DBZ Movie Director?

Post by Kid Buu » Sun Apr 10, 2011 10:42 pm

Daisuke Nishio:
Curse of the Blood Rubies
Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle
Mystical Adventure
Dead Zone
The World's Strongest
Tree of Might
Return of Cooler
History of Trunks
Bardock - Father of Goku

Mitsuo Hashimoto:
Lord Slug
Cooler's Revenge
Wrath of the Dragon

Katsuhito Kikuchi:
Super Android #13

Shigeyasu Yamauchi:
Path to Power
Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan
Broly - Second Coming
Fusion Reborn

Yoshihiro Ueda:
Bojack Unbound
Bio-Broly

Osamu Kasai:
A Hero's Legacy

(Please correct me if any of the above information is wrong, I used Anime News Network as my source).

I have to vote for Daisuke Nishio, his films are the most enjoyable for me expect for "Tree of Might" which I didn't like. A bit fast paced, but enjoyable!

Well, if we're counting the specials, then it would have to be Daisuke Nishio... the Trunks special is amazing.

Definitely Daisuke Nishio for the win. His production of battle sequences is always cool and well-conceived.

Going to have to go with Nishio. I really like his work with The World's Strongest Guy. The color work is awesome, the choreography...everything!

Nishio all the way! The fight scenes he did were very innovative and Dragon Ball like unlike DBZ's spam attacks.

Daisuke Nishio. I adore the style of those first three movies.

Being as how movie 13 is the best out of them all, I'd have to go with whoever did that one.

The emotion, the chemistry between Tapion/Trunks, Tapion's backstory and will-power to put an end to Hildegarn fully displayed this in true DB fashion.

Daisuke Nishio, because I really enjoyed movies 1 and 2 along with the specials.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

I'm fairly certain that a movie about Super Android #17 doesn't exist. There's a movie called Super Android #13 though.

Definetly Daisuke Nishio.

I love the atmosphere in the first 2 movies, but the very first on tops it all. I like the 2nd because of the fight scene altough I don't know how much a movie Director has to do with the choreography. I liked the 3 one to in a way but storywise it seemed a tad weaker than the first 2.
And allthough it's been awhile since I last saw "History of Trunks" I believe it's contains one of the most (if not the most) emotional scene out of the entire series.

Yoshihiro Ueda for my vote!

Bojack Unbound was perfect to me!

Yeah, I think Bojack is my favourite of the 13 Z movies, but it's hard to give him the prize when the only other one he directed was Bio-Broly.

I'm torn.....

I want to vote Hashimoto since I think movie #13 is the best one.....but I also think movie #4 is the worst one...soooo.....

I'll just jump on the bandwagon and vote for Nishio. :D

Daisuke Nishio.

His work on the first three films, as well as several scenes on The History of Trunks was amazing.

Daisuke Nishio since he did a great job on the story telling then the other directors did IMO. Mistuo is a pretty good director as well, I loved Movie #5 and #6 but he also directed my least DBZ movie though (Lord Slug).

Definitely Daisuke Nishio. There's actually not one film in that list that I dislike. I liked the plot of the first film, as it added backstory to the God of Earth and, to quote VegettoEX, "that it involved more than our own [God] simply showing up". And the battle cheography of the first three films are simply beautiful, and reminiscent of pre-Z DB battle scenes. Just gonna copy what I said about the first and third films a while ago:
Piccolo Daimao wrote:DBZ Movie 1: It has such great fight chereography and harks back to the fluid, more martial artsy battle sequences of pre-Z. Plus, I like how the movie adds backstory to obtaining the throne of the God of Earth. Garlic Jr.'s also unique for being the only villain in the series who actually gained immortality and how his own technique led to his entrapment.

DBZ Movie 3: I admire the original, somewhat dark theme of the film, with the Tree of Might sucking the life out of the planet. Tullece is a badass villain and is a great representation of what Goku could've been if he hadn't hit his head as a child. Along with the premise of the story, he has a cold feel to him, especially with that odd skin-colouring of his.
And I need not say what's great about the Bardock and Trunks specials.

What about the DB movies and GT special? Who directed those?
Can't you see? He's the man. Let me hear you applaud. He's more than a man! He's a shiny golden god!

From what I've researched the DB movies are directed by Daisuke Nishio, with the exception of Path to Power which was directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi. GT Special by Osamu Kasai.
