No Ocean dub episodes (post season 2) ever got released on VHS or DVD. Ever. It aired in quite a few countries and none of them saw any kind of home release.
So? That was a different time. It could easily happen now. And you forgot a couple of the movies.
The challenge becomes (at least for North America, if nothing else) that Funimation owns the distribution rights. They might let an Ocean TV Dub go on, but they'd probably insist that home releases be their version.

I wonder if Ocean will just do a straight to DVD release.
Ocean is just a production house, they don't release any DVDs, Blu-Rays, etc. themselves as they do not own the rights to the properties they work on. It would be up to the company who is paying Ocean to release a home video collection, but most likely this will be a TV Dub, and premiere on TV.

According to Crystal Acids, which hasn't been updated in a while, Toei are doing this one.

Iiiiiiiffffff they wanted to do a DVD release, they'll probably use Manga or something to distro.

Any updates on this? Also I think Cole Howard could pull of Trunks pretty well.

All this waiting... I'm beginning to lose hope!

Something must be happening, Lee Tockar has said he's recorded his parts for Freeza. They might just be taking their time to make the dub perfect?

Or waiting until FUNi finishes their broadcast?

I will say this, it's very interesting that Canada's largest convention was only able to secure 1 Vancouver voice actor (Brad Swaile) for FanExpo. It's almost as if they were all busy doing their jobs...

But, generally dubbing studios don't record with all their actors at the same time. It's rare for more than 2 to even be doing the same show at the same time. Now, they might all be locked up in multiple different anime during that period, but even that's somewhat unlikely. Some could be recording, perhaps others are under a confidenciality agreement because Ocean wants to keep things under wraps, and they don't want to risk their jobs over a con.

Or it could just be coincidence. It's a wait and see matter.

To do with DVD releases, check this out from Amazon UK:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Ball-Kai ... 05&sr=1-13

It doesn't say 'US Import' as in the product details section, you can see it is set for a region 2 release on 18th October 2011.

Although what may concern people on this thread it does say the studio is Funimation.

Another thing it says is Language: Japanese, Subtitles: English. No English dub?

Suppose time will tell on whether or not this is legitimate.

It just looks like a PAL version of the Season Sets that are coming out in October. I doubt this would be the Ocean dub.

It's FUNi for sure. I can tell because of the cover art.

I can tell because it says "Studio: Funimation."

Jeez, our covers would have looked like that if we hadn't gotten that dumb banner on the right? It looks so much better that way...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
My theory has been that they're dubbing the whole damn show from the first episode to the last so that, when it comes time to air the show, they can air five episodes a week (one for each of the weekdays). I wouldn't be surprised at all if the music scandal had something to do with the delayed release as well.

Regardless of the speculation, one thing's definitely for sure: people are VERY passionate about the Ocean cast. The thread dedicated to the Ocean dub of Kai is already 45 pages long, and we haven't even heard a clip yet!
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

That could be the case, which would be great, to have an episode every day. It's going to be very interesting hearing this dub, I really hope it's decent.

Also, a DVD release would be great.

I think we should keep in mind that it is unconfirmed on who is voicing Frieza in Ocean's Kai dub. It's better to wait for an official announcement or until the episodes are broadcast.

And yeah it does seem like Ocean are taking their time. Ocean did such a good job with DBZ, they don't need to take their time to produce a good dub but it appears they are anyway. Normally we have to wait for the best things, I'd say Ocean's dub will be the best dub so the wait seems worth it.

Umm...i know the source from an "official press release" or anything, but to me, a voice actor who posted on twitter about being cast as Freeza, and also about recording his lines seems pretty official to me. Just saying.

Anyways, in all honesty, I don't expect this dub to be coming out anytime soon because...lets face it, it seems like anything that Ocean Studios has been dubbing in recent years has been taking an EXTRAORDINARILY loooong time for the finalized products to be released. To name the biggest example of what I'm talking about has to be the dubbing of InuYasha: The Final Act. For those who don't know the story behind that, it was confirmed in May of 2010 to have began the first day of dubbing from one of the voice actresses, and both the main character and villian confirmed to have finished their lines in December of 2010.

Viz Media posted the DVD release schedules out for December 2011 (while also having up to March 2012 planned out) and STILL no word on any released date, because the very silent Viz Media explained that they haven't received the finalization from Ocean Studios. Hell, a representative from Viz Media at Otakon didn't even know that they've began dubbing it!

To put it simply; If this kind of slow dubbing/post-production work is happening to the final InuYasha (a measly 26 episodes no less!) and a few of their other shows, how long is it before their dub of Dragonball Kai even sees the light of day? As anime fans living in a modern era filled with benefits of streaming, speedy dvd releases, and other instant gratification, I had no idea that there was still the potential of waiting until 2012 for the release of a 2009 anime title, and a popular one at that!

Maybe FUNimation has spoiled us, i don't know :?

First time I've heard of Ocean Studios being slow like that. I really need to keep up with things like this.

Woah. Now that's pretty bad when a rep from the distribution company doesn't even know that a dub from Ocean Studios even began. :P

I'm actually starting to get suspicious of what Ocean Productions said about Kai because it's been over a year since the announcement was made and there hasn't even:

a. been word about it since, and
b. been even a single audio clip to at least give fans a sample of what the finished product will be like.
xXInfinite026Xx wrote:Maybe FUNimation has spoiled us, i don't know :?
No, Funimation has not spoiled us. Unlike Ocean Productions, at least Funi gets releases out in a timely manner.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).
