DragonBall GT Revised [fanfic]

I think I can safely say without fear of spoiling anything that GTR's version of Super Saiyan 4 will be essentially unchanged from the original GT version, at least in terms of visual design. I hate to actually admit this, but I haven't read GTR and have no plans to do so in to foreseeable future. I plan on doing my own rewrite of GT as part of my fan project, and because I'm so easily influenced, the last thing I need to do is read your fanfic and decide that I want to steal everything from it (plus I hate reading through something and having to stop because there is no more material). lol even though I won't be reading it anytime soon, I do still read through the topic and check out the bios and art you submit...as well as inadvertently picking up some other spoilers from posts between you and other members.

That said, right now I couldn't care less about the little except, and I read your post like the quote above instead. lol I was curious about how you planned on handling SS4, but since all you did was make the subject more trivial, I'd probably preferred if you had said nothing at all. lol But if you don't want to talk about it now, I guess there is nothing I can do. =P

I do have another question though, and you can PM me if you don't want to answer it here or ignore me if you don't want to address it at all, but I was curious about how/if you plan on reversing Goku's transformation into a child. I know you've hinted about tying into DBO's backstory about Goku and Vegeta having a final battle before they start to age out of their prime...but that wouldn't exactly be an issue if Goku's remain so youthful...

People, people! Guess what? Chapter 14 is finally done. It's in Kino's hands now for proofreading, and I've already cracked open and made some progress on 15. When I said at least one chapter a month, I meant it. When 14's posted within a week it will count as January's, and come HFIL or high water, I'll have another one posted before February ends. I'm especially worked up because 15 marks the start of my first all-original and story-central mini arc in GTR.

It's alive! Patience does pay off after all . . . now if only I can remove these cobwebs from my body and have a bath.

As for the whole SSj 4 design, I never quite drooled over it as the black and red hair broke with the golden hair motif Akira Toriyama set before. Then again Toei probably guessed if they continued in that direction it would seem boring so in the end it is probably the right decision (although magical trousers need a little explaining). Overall though I love how they brought the Ozaru transformation back to the fore as I am a fan of that form, combining it with the SSj idea that came before. I remember a website long ago that was something of a SSj4 fan page that argued Son Goku only being the natural achiever of that state confirmed the legendary super saiyan of legend or some such. Of course this was at the time when we had the poor manga translations and anime dubs so take that with a grain of salt. Still like the idea though that it was the pinnacle of saiyan might as the SSj + Ozaru method brought the series full circle.

Like in the original GT (I think? Or was it just certain artwork?), in GTR Super Saiyan 3 will be the only form for which the tail's hair turns gold along with the rest of it. Unlike in the original GT, however, I've got an actual reason for that happening.

One question though, do you think DBGT's concept is the best way for a dragonball sequel or do you think the manga left off in such a way that could continue in multiple directions I mean I hear Akira Toriyama liked GT but only as a side story so kind of wondering your thoughts on this.

The original manga definitely left things pretty open-ended; I mean, just look at how different the back-history events of Dragon Ball Online are from GT. At the end of the manga I'm pretty sure Toriyama even said something to the effect of, "Goku and friends will have many more adventures but I'll leave them to you to imagine."

As for how GT stacks up compared to other ideas, potential or otherwise... well, it kind of falls back onto my same general view of GT. It had great potential and ideas, but bad execution.

The broader ideas for the story arcs - A Dragon Ball hunt through outer space, the last of the Tsufrians exacting his revenge on the last of the Saiyans, and the overuse of the Dragon Balls coming back to bite the heroes - are all amazing. Furthermore, Super Saiyan 4 as it was created for GT, as a amalgam of the Super Saiyan and Ozaru, was unbelievably brilliant. Do you think most fan-writers would have come up with something like that, or just some bigger-haired and crazier-looking step up on the golden ladder from Super Saiyan 3?

But of course, the problem with GT was how those ideas were actually used. It was full of plot holes, severe inconsistencies with the manga, and of course more blatant and rampant Goku-glorifying than you can shake a stick at.

Luckily, that makes it prime material for rewrite fanfictions.

Yeah GT's concepts were of high quality but the execution sucked! I think if someone wishes to make a sequel fanfic to dragonball some of GT's elements would be a good add to it or like you said do the whole concepts of GT but with better execution.

It was only certain artwork during GT's original run that Son Goku is shown with a golden tail in every Super Saiyan form. Here are two good examples - a trading card & the first of the perfect guides. As you noted though in the actual series, Goku's tail remains brown unless he was SSj3 (which only happened once during the major Bebi-Vegeta fight). This was also shown with material posted later such as an original Dragonbox cover for GT. Toei decided to stick with the brown fur for the brief moment you see SSj Brolli's tail in Movie 11 and of course the recent anime version of the SSj Bardock special. As I said before despite that I just like the golden furred tail better for aesthetic reasons but hlev's preference is closer to what Toei thought of doing. I look forward to your own take on the subject when Goku gets his tail back in Dragonball GT revised.

Funny, I didn't even know that Goku ever had brown tail as SSJ/SSJ2.

I just think that, since Goku has black hair and brown tail, and as SSJ, Goku's black hair becomes yellow, it's not necessary that his brown tail would become yellow.

I agree with that reasoning.
I also prefer Goku's tail changing color only when in Super Saiyan 3 and 4. As for why it does in 3 I have my own fanon about that and it seems Kaboom has made some thoughts about it too!

I also like the implications, I'm seeing from his comments about Goku's "magical trousers."

Overall I'm looking forward to his take on Super Saiyan 4 Goku.

GT Revised Chapter 14 - "I Need A Hero"

In this amazing, totally-worth-the-wait, in-between chapter, we temporarily turn our attention away from our intrepid heroes out in space back to planet Earth, where a different but no less intrepid hero has made a shocking reappearance within Satan City after years of retirement. I did this one in watercolors and watercolor pencils, both of which I'm kind of out of practice with. It turned out pretty good, though I think I still actually like my original mock-up in markers better.

Despite this chapter taking WAAAAY longer than it should have to write (remember back when I thought I would have it out around the end of October? LOL.), it was pretty fun, and has allowed me plenty of needed time to iron out the details for chapters 15-17's story. I'm plugging away pretty quickly at that, and you've gotten some hints now as to what it's about, so look forward to it!
