I'd prefer it if they kept DB on the big screen for now. Certainly seems like a more efficient way of making money for them, and to be honest I wouldn't be too keen on a new series.saiyanprincess wrote:A series would be most welcomed! Yeah, a new series travelling to different universes and defeating that Universes God of Destruction could feel repetitive if not executed right. It would seem like a Video game, that is, until Toriyama starts making some of the Gods join the Z Senshi, and mixing it up in his own ways.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:I'd prefer it if they kept DB on the big screen for now. The idea of Goku traveling into different worlds sounds like it could be Dragon Ball version of Kamen Rider Decade
. I think for the 30th anniversary, I like to see them focus on the original Dragon Ball as well and not just DBZ.

I think it's a little reckless to get your hopes up so much. Also, I would prefer the movies because they tend to have much higher production values and more carefully considered plot and presentation. Battle of Gods trilogy? That, I'm on board with.Scott wrote:I think a series would be better than another movie, with that many universes being mentioned another 200+ episode series would be very much welcomed by meChuquita wrote:I'm not one to get ahead of myself, especially when I haven't actually watched BOG yet (despite everything I read about its plot sounds awesome) but knowing what I know about the first movie, would I like them to eventually do another one? I really don't see Goku traveling to other universes to confront the Gods of Destruction, they're not bad guys, what they do is necessary. If they were defeated, it would throw off the cosmic balance. The only way I can imagine Goku coming into conflict with them is if they feel that Bills has gotten soft and can't do his job, and so they come to destroy Earth themselves in order to maintain the cosmic balance.
Re: Battle of Gods...2?
I follow you on this. I'm not sure why the fact these other beings exist leads to the idea that everybody has to become Gods and go kill them. Just...what? We don't even know anything about these people or the universes in which they inhabit. If anything, this "multiverse" thing could overbloat the world of Dragon Ball. We've already seen the scale of things go up so much in battle, where the hell else is there left to go? I wouldn't mind seeing a new character build up from where Goku was in the very beginning, instead.UpFromTheSkies wrote:I really don't see Goku traveling to other universes to confront the Gods of Destruction, they're not bad guys, what they do is necessary. Yeah, I can't imagine this Gods of Destruction story going beyond what I've posted here... http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... 60#p637519 and here http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... 60#p637530 I imagine the conflict would be resolved in the end by Whis.Duo wrote:I follow you on this. But what is there left for Goku and company to do after they've dealt with the creators and destroyers of the universe? You can't get any stronger than that.
Re: Battle of Gods...2?
I don't necessarily if either of those 2 idea's would necessarily be the only options (Toriyama has a way with these things), but I could see Birus as a precursor to one more grand foe of some kind, perhaps. Future Dragon Ball stories would work better with something like what DBO did. Probably.

I don't think DBO would work as a series because Goku wouldn't be in it. Maybe Heroes, but not DBO.Duo wrote:I don't necessarily if either of those 2 idea's would necessarily be the only options (Toriyama has a way with these things), but I could see Birus as a precursor to one more grand foe of some kind, perhaps. A Heroes anime would be pure fan service.

A well written hero could take up Goku's mantle just fine. We've seen large stretches of the series function with him in the background or gone - it just needs to be stuck to and done right, is all.UpFromTheSkies wrote:I don't think DBO would work as a series because Goku wouldn't be in it. I know I wouldn't watch if they used a new cast. I'm more attached to the characters than I am attached to their world.

Yeah, but in those parts of the story, Goku is still there in the background, and everyone is expecting him to return eventually. What would you expect to see in a new series, something like Goku Jr and co? It would be the same story all over again with different characters.Duo wrote:A well written hero could take up Goku's mantle just fine. I think after this final chapter of Dragonball is told, the only thing left to do is create an anime like Heroes, which would be pure fan service. It's an excuse to have different characters from all over the series fight each other, with all new fusions and power levels, all the fans dream battles played out.

I don't think there is a chance of a new main cast. Heroes is a just card game with player avatars. Online is a an MMO where you can see how Son Goku and friends changed the world and the story is heavily revolved around their actions in the past. The player characters don't exist to have their own story told but to experience the world of DB. And buy merchandise.

Wait...I have an idea...maybe every so often, the Gods from each Universe have a multi-verse martial arts tournament, and maybe there are fighters from other universes that can also become gods like Goku. I'm sure a tournament like this would require a great deal of preparation and training, so there would be lots of trials for our heroes to go through before even entering the tournament, involving them traveling to other universes. Goku and Vegeta would kill for a chance to partake in something like that, and of course the rest of the Z cast would tag along

Re: Battle of Gods...2?
No we haven't. There are tons of areas of power still to exploit, Boo arc and Movie 12 had the right idea - Which is when it started getting "ridiculously" powerful. Goku and other beings out there are beings capable of mass destruction but Goku chooses not to. Even the Freeza arc showed how powerful they can really get if they wanted to demonstrate true strength, with Freza cutting the planet in half. I'd like to see more emphasis on things like that. I don't believe, currently, that they are showing the utmost of their strength and speed in DBZ.Duo wrote:We've already seen the scale of things go up so much in battle, where the hell else is there left to go?UpFromTheSkies wrote:I really don't see Goku traveling to other universes to confront the Gods of Destruction, they're not bad guys, what they do is necessary. Also, I think a particular gadget or device should be used in any upcoming movies or series now, the Dragonballs are just stale. Let's have a "Heart of The Universe" or Infinity Gaunlet. At the very least, revive a strong opponent from the dead with the Dragonballs.
Sounds good, wasn't one of Coolers henchmen apart of the "Galactic Wrestling Federation"? Could do something similarUpFromTheSkies wrote:Wait...I have an idea...maybe every so often, the Gods from each Universe have a multi-verse martial arts tournament, and maybe there are fighters from other universes that can also become gods like Goku. Re: Battle of Gods...2?
I've revised my idea for a sequel...
Shortly after Bills and Whis depart Earth, the God of Destruction of the 6th Universe finds out what has happened between Bills and Goku, and he sends his servant to Earth to investigate Earths warriors and test their power. Upon arriving on Earth, the servant is mistaken for another God of Destruction who wants to destroy the Earth, and battle ensues. The battle is almost evenly matched, with the servant barely escaping with his life. Before retreating, the servant reveals that he isn't a real God of Destruction, and that when his master finds out how he has been treated, he will not be pleased. The 6th GoD decides that Bills has become soft and isn't capable of performing his duty as a God of Destruction, and that he must finish the job of destroying the Earth himself.
Bills wakes up from his 3 year nap, finds out what has happened, and warns Goku that his rival, the GoD of the 6th universe, will be arriving on Earth soon. Bills is determined to protect the Earth, which he believes only he can rightfully destroy. Goku, Bills, and Vegeta train in preparation for the battle to come.
The 6th GoD arrives on Earth, battle ensues, but is eventually interrupted by Whis, who Bills and the 6th GoD are terrified of when he becomes angry. Whis reminds them that the tournament of the Gods will soon be upon them, and if they knock each other unconscious and are unable to participate, they will lose their titles as Gods of Destruction by default.
After the 6th GoD leaves Earth, Goku and Vegeta ask Bills to explain the tournament of the Gods, and his history with the 6th GoD. Bills tells them that when Gods like him and the 6th GoD are born, they are assigned to attendants like Whis who are in charge of educating them and teaching them martial arts. He explains that the 6th GoD and himself were both assigned to Whis, and have been in competition their whole lives. As young Gods mature, Bills explains, they eventually enter into a Tournament of Gods which determines whether or not they will be placed in charge of a universe and be given the title "God of Destruction". One of these tournaments is about to begin, and Bills and the other GoD's will be challenged for their titles.
The idea of there being many more guys as strong as Bills and the 6th GoD, or possibly even stronger, excites Goku and Vegeta, and they are determined to somehow enter the tournament as well.

Guys, you know that the other Universes could have as villains guys other than the Gods of Destruction, right? And you know that if Goku were to fight one of the gods, he doesn't have to kill them, right?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Looking at these numbers, it seems Toei will be pleased with how things went and maybe they'll think about trying it again at some point.
