Is there any possibility that these releases will include the AB Groupe English dub (AKA Westwood Ocean dub), when it gets to that point in the series, as an additional audio track?

There's absolutely no possibility that this will include the Westwood dub because it doesn't have an uncut version. It can't be synced with the uncut footage.

Same reason there is no Japanese track on the Rock the Dragon (or Pioneer oldschoolies) release.

They didn't add enough crudely drawn stars to make up for the 14 episodes of cut content.

I wonder if these fail anyone think they will do a Dragonbox Singles for Blu-Ray it would make sense use the extra disc space for the extra Faulconer audio track as well as some extras maybe use the same art as the Japanese Releases sell them at $10-$15 MSRP 48 total about $480-$600 would make sense release 4 volumes every 3 months take three years to complete id be all for it!!!

FUNimation probably can't put out more Dragon Boxes of the "Z" TV series even if they wanted to. They would have milked it for all that it was worth. There's clearly still a demand for them, going by their prices.

No, it's not. These Dragon Box covers are drawn by Yamamuro. The arts between these two are very, very different.

I'm talking about the style of cover, not the artist.
And Yamamuro isn't perfect too, the Gokuhs, Yajirobes and Vegetas from the saiyajin saga covers of that japanese edition doesn't look like them. There are some big fails, like 3rd Form Freeza with nose and a Gotenks with a huge, huge head.

Yea. I was thinking more along the lines of what AB Groupe did with the French dub. When it gets to a section that wasn't dubbed it switches over to the Japanese track and back when said section finishes. Funimation could do the same but switch over to there inhouse cast instead. Though I highly doubt they would go to the bother of doing that. The Westwood dub getting any home release depends more on whether Funimation sees getting the license for it as worthwhile. I've added the question to the news article so lets wait and see how they respond. I doubt anything will come of this though but there's no harm in asking.

That wouldn't be possible in this case. Unlike the old French dub, the Westwood one used its own in-house BGM.

As far as rights are concerned, even if Funimation was interested in including it, it may not be easy to acquire. They didn't produce the dub and AB Groupe seems to no longer be associated with the property.

I gotta say sure there's detail loss in the screenshots of the DBZ S1 BD but in overall it looks a lot better, colourful, alive and modern. FUNimation this time around seems to have done the cropping properly so I'm fine with it being 16x9 AR.

Can't wait to get my DBZ Season 1 Blu-ray set! ^_^

So, do we know anything about the process they are using now? I'm assuming it's different from the last set of blu rays, else they would just be continuing where they left off with those instead of starting over again.

I'm reading the thread from the start, but any other info about features/audio/video/content whatever that could be tl;dr'd for me would be awesome, since it is 88 pages

I'll admit I haven't looked at every single screenshot posted in this thread, but I thought the general consensus (so far, at least) was that everything in the trailer has been center-cropped. That's not really any different from the DVD season sets, if I recall.

The two potential bright spots are the possibility of better widescreen framing, and the possibility the grain removal won't annihilate facial detail.

But they're just potential bright spots, since the trailer didn't showcase any of that stuff.

I don't. From my impression, DBZ was far more popular than Kai, in Japan. But Kei would know that better than me.

Who knows, maybe the film itself this time is actually cleaner and more free of tape splicing, marks, and all of the other damages seen in the DVD season sets. That was my biggest problem with the Orange Bricks, it not only had completely center cropped footage, DVNR, bad and oversaturated colors, blinding brights, and badly mixed Japanese music with the English dialogue, but they didn't clean or restore the film before changing it. It still had dirt, hairs, scratches, everything. I'm not defending this new release or anything, but if I have anything good thing to say about this release, it's that it won't be quite as bad as the Orange Brick release, and that as the releases go by they'll get better overtime (OB Seasons 6-9 didn't look as bad as OB Seasons 1-5 did), you get more footage than the OBs (although it's still cropped), AND you won't get shit like this:

Kai sold like shit here, so I'm sure they'll release DBZ on Blu-ray someday. I guess, though, it won't be soon because the Buu arc of Kai will likely be released next year.

Next year is the 30th anniversary, maybe Toei will do something. I won't give my hopes up since Toei has been known to be cheap and we could get Blu-Rays worst then from Funi.

I just want Kai Buu. I can finally complete my Kai series and be done with buying DBZ for good.
