I do not follow this at all. I cannot even begin to understand what chain of logic you're following when comparing a present-day review of the first Super Mario Bros. to a timely review of a present-day Dragon Ball game.
I'm saying reviewers give Mario games high scores if the games have the same tired story "save the princess" or a different one. DBZ gets marked low if its the same story for being old but also get marked low if they try to do something new like DarkPrince_92 said for not following the original story.

I see what you're trying to say in that Mario is sort of expected to follow a set formula, but I think it's unfair to say that it treads exactly the same ground in each game and is mindlessly praised for doing so. Nintendo have been historically very good at keeping Mario fresh, and Mario is one of the few good examples of a platformer that has found new life with the switch to 3D graphics and beyond. Mario games tend to get the highest praise when they innovate whilst encompassing all the things we know and love about the franchise, such as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy.

The two key terms that describe those games are 'innovative' and 'well-executed' - of which neither is really true of 'Battle of Z', and even when considered to be 'innovative' in regard to where the franchise has been before, it certainly hasn't been particularly well executed.

So basically buy the game for its music and not that it's a god awful game. You can't polish a turd, remember.
Mythbusters would disagree :P

Here's some UK sales data via Chark Track:
In yet another quiet week for new releases the Top 3 are unchanged with Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (-2%) still at No2 and ‘Battlefield 4’ (-13%) at No3. ‘Lego Marvel Superheroes’ (-2%) is at No4 swapping places with Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ (-35%) at No5. Format exclusives ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (+2%) and PS4’s ‘Killzone: Shadow Fall’ (-12%) are at No6 and No7 while ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-4%) climbs a spot to No8. EA’s third Top 10 title ‘Need for Speed: Rivals’ (-17%) slips two places to No 9. There’s a debut at No10 this week for Namco Bandai’s ‘Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z’. The title for Xbox 360, PS3 and Vita becomes the best selling Week 1 for any multi format Dragon Ball title as far back as 2009.
In the individual format chart the 360 version debuted at 28, with the PS3 version at 36. The Vita version didn't chart in the Top 40.

Going down to each of the platforms, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z was the seventh best selling game this past week on both the 360, and the PS3. The Vita version debuted in first place.

Now it's time to see if this is just an anomaly (presumably due to Kai's broadcast in the UK) or indicative of improved sales for Battle of Z globally.

With the Plus deal that's going on with the launch of this game in the US, I have a feeling the Vita sales will do well here too. It's also a dry month in terms of gaming(which was a smart move on Bandai-Namco's part) more people are going to be inclined to pick this up, given that there really isn't much else to pick from.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

So Battle of Z for Vita got its first "official" positive review. (By official, I mean it counts on Metacritic.)

I guess this review looked for more good than bad. Can't wait to see what Gamespot is going to give it. I know they're about to violate this game.

There's so many better fighting games out there and a lot cheaper so it's pointless to get this, even more considering the demo showed its flaws.

Precisely. He didn't even talk about the recycled music, lack of Japanese audio or other flaws.

Looks like UKIE actually got numbers from Chart Track:
‘FIFA 14’ (28,088 / -14%) makes it 4 straight weeks in 2014 at No1 and 9 in total since launch. In yet another quiet week for new releases the Top 3 are unchanged with Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (18,872 / -2%) still at No2 and ‘Battlefield 4’ (16,053 / -13%) at No3. ‘Lego Marvel Superheroes’ (12,190 / -2%) is at No4 swapping places with Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ (10,417 / -35%) at No5. Format exclusives ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (8,665 / +2%) and PS4’s ‘Killzone: Shadow Fall’ (8,011 / -12%) are at No6 and No7 while ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (7,581 / -4%) climbs a spot to No8. EA’s third Top 10 title ‘Need for Speed: Rivals’ ( 7,480 / -17%) slips two places to No 9. There’s a debut at No10 this week for Namco Bandai’s ‘Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z’ (4,891). The title for Xbox 360, PS3 and Vita becomes the best selling Week 1 for any multi format Dragon Ball title as far back as 2009. Further down the chart last week’s debutant ‘Mario Party: Island tour’ (2,940 / -10%) for 3DS climbs a spot to No17.
It speaks volumes on the performance of previous games in the UK that BoZ can best them with less than 5000 copies sold.

Regarding the game itself, is the online experience any smoother in the full game than it was in the demo?
When your demo save ports over, do you automatically gain the trophies for things achieved in the demo?

Also, I happened to re-watch Movie 8 last night. Gohan's green healing beam makes a lot more sense to me now :P

The barriers on some stages are paper thin. You can literally step backwards and get out.

On the islands there is a gap in the big rock in the middle that you can fall through to get under the stage.

Comparing to Mario and DBZ is like comparing oranges and bananas. Mario always had good gamplay despite having the same old story over and over again. Also Mario is the Mickey Mouse of video games, Mario is always going to sell well even if the game sucks.

Does this mean that the user could free roam outside the map even if the map ends at some point?

The only suck-ish Mario game was NSMB2 for 3DS because that didn't really offer anything new but still, it had top notch gameplay unlike this Dragon Ball Z game.

One thing that you can always count on Mario games to have it perfected is its gameplay.

Shouldn't Goku be less muscular than this? I haven't seen enough of base Goku in this game to determine, if there actually is a difference, but I'd imagine he should be slimmer than that.

He may not be as as accurate to the animated design as he could be, but he is thinner than the other forms of Goku in the game and that's all that really matters.

I just got a Vita today and planning on getting this game. This has most likely been answered already but are the pre order DLC for the consoles also available for the Vita aswell? Like maybe be available to buy and download in the ps store?

Tried the demo, I've had trouble with the camera and lock on system but I'l give it the benefit of the doubt and assume I'm just not used to the game yet.

I'm desperately trying to get the story mode of this sucka' beat, but in the few hours each night I can put aside to play it after work I feel like I'm barely making inroads. How frustrating!

Anyone got any tips for the Super Perfect Cell fight? Disregarding the obvious answers of course (e.g - pick a balanced team, buy better cards etc).
