In addition to what everybody here said, I like knowing what happens next episode during a marathon in case I forget, as some parts like Namek blur a bit for me.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:What's so special about NEP's?

The Dragon Boxes look fine. Being at 480p is the only real "shortcoming" that they have.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Well, quite simply, it's a part of the episode. You wouldn't go around asking, "What's so special about those 30 seconds of the episode?" for any other part of the show, would you?Baggie_Saiyan wrote:What's so special about NEP's?
So, yeah, it's hardly nitpicky to want them. If 99% of all other TV on DVD releases have complete episodes of whatever show they're presenting, why is it hard to understand people expecting that for this show?

That we aren't getting NEPs means someone, somewhere down the line, chose to cut frames of animation from the reels (or tapes). I don't see how that's acceptable.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
The biggest thing about the NEP for me is Goku's narration. "HIYA, SON GOKU!" is an inextricable part of the experience for me. It's just... not complete without it.

That's true. "Ossu! Ora Goku," IS Goku's catchphrase. Nozawa once estimated she'd said it over 10,000 times, probably almost any time she's ever had a public appearance. There's not a contender that even comes close, not even powering up for a Kamehameha. And while it's not entirely exclusive to the previews, that's sure as hell how it became familiar, with fans hearing it every single week, as they strap in for Goku and the gang to talk to them about what's going to happen next week.kidglov3s wrote:The biggest thing about the NEP for me is Goku's narration. And like, I think Goku is more expressive in the NEP's than he tends to be in conversations. I think they're invaluable in terms of providing some more insight into this character that is often kept at a distance.Gaffer Tape wrote:That's true. "Ossu! Ora Goku," IS Goku's catchphrase. Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
The NEPs have short conversations and let the viewer know what the title of the next episode is, so if you're not going to watch the next ep straight away you know for sure what it's called and not be confused, as the NEPs aren't on the DB Saga sets (Madman ver.) I sometimes randomly check which episode is the one I need to watch.
I'm okay with the NEPs not being there but I sure miss them because it was a joy to watch them on the Z Boxes and GT Singles.
P.S.: I watch other anime series and from what I recall they all have their NEPs but Dragon Ball is the remaining one to not have them. Plus, even US series have it too (Hannibal, Walking Dead, Dexter, Chuck, Breaking Bad, Tomorrow People, Ray Donovan, etc).

The NEPs really are a joy to watch. I feel like I'm watching the original broadcast, everytime they play

Hmmm. Fair enough. The NEP's are only available for the original Japanese version right? As I don't recall the FUNI dub ever having them, maybe the ocean dub had them can't remember.
Also, are the NEP's before the credits or after? Some anime, like fairy tail have them after and I'm not particularly fond of sitting through credits lol.

The NEPs are only available in Japanese on the Dragon Boxes, but the dub of Z did have them in every original broadcast episode (not sure about the Ultimate Uncut redub).
The NEPs were originally before the credits, but, sadly, the DBoxes moved them after the credits. Thankfully, it's quite for me to skip to the NEP and then back to the credits to watch them as originally presented. Thank goodness they put chapter breaks in front of both of them.

To clear things up haha, I meant original japanese broadcast. I don't watch the english dub of dragon ball, I really don't like it.

Dragon Ball Z: Season Four (Blu-ray) is $24.99 on Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Blu-r ... 83-0330726
DBZ - I only recall seeing the NEPs on the Ocean Dub episodes but it was custom made NEPs not the real ones, though.
DBGT - For English NEPs you'd want to get the GT Singles but the English dub of the NEPs have Menza's score.
DBK - On any release they're in English and with the original BGM (they didn't change the BGM thankfully).
Original Broadcast: OP > EP > Eyecatch A > Eyecatch B > NEP > Ending
Dragon Box: OP > EP > Eyecatch A > Eyecatch B > Ending > NEP

The original broadcast aired the NEPs before the Ending but nowadays all series that I watch have the same order like it is on the Dragon Boxes so I guess Toei Animation wanted to make it more traditional.Gaffer Tape wrote:The NEPs are only available in Japanese on the Dragon Boxes, but the dub of Z did have them in every original broadcast episode (not sure about the Ultimate Uncut redub).

Season 3 and on had the NEPs too, but they were also custom made, so they're not on the Dragon Boxes.

So we might actually get the rest of these releases on pace for once a month then eh? It's possible that season six would come out in early August though instead of late July.dbboxkaifan wrote:Season Five has a release date!

I'm looking forward for tomorrow to see the completed art work on the next three cases. Really digging what we've gotten so far though, and I feel the quality is serviceable for this type of release.

I agree these sets are serviceable for the time being considering it's either these Season BDs or the Orange Bricks.RocktheDragon wrote:So we might actually get the rest of these releases on pace for once a month then eh? I'm wondering whether the Blu-rays of Season 8 & 9 will look better than the Orange Bricks 8 & 9 because they had grain and looked great.

I can't find the amazon listing for Season 5, but it is on rightstuf. However, I prefer to import them in bulk because I get a discount that way.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.
Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Thank you to dbboxkaifan for letting us know about the Season 5 release date! I just preordered the fourth season through Amazon
Can anyone who is used to preordering Dragon Ball sets through Amazon tell me how likely the prices fluctuate before the release date (as in going down in price rather than up)? Thanks
