Do you know if it was it for boo or for Cell? I am a little confused because Scott McNeil brings up playing buu and such, but I am not sure if he was referring to Z. It would seem a little odd that they would have gotten the Green Light from TOEI to do Buu Kai before FUNi has received theirs?Attitudefan wrote:When I spoke to Drummond months ago he said they finished the last episode then. I think he thinks they're done. Like he recorded the last episode of the Cell arc, and the producers told him that it was done...which, at the time, would have been true, but is true no longer.eledoremassis02 wrote:Do you know if it was it for boo or for Cell? Ha.........not that I take joy in people's suffering--I don't--but it would be kinda funny in a dark/comedic kind of way if he only completed Kai up to the Cell saga at that point. Then later his agent calls and is like, "Guess what, you just got 46 more episodes...something called the 'Buu arc,' I guess?"Attitudefan wrote:When I spoke to Drummond months ago he said they finished the last episode then. A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I'd think in a sadistic way, he'd like that haha! Vegeta is kinda his alter ego (in the public eye at least).Ha.........not that I take joy in people's suffering--I don't--but it would be kinda funny in a dark/comedic kind of way if he only completed Kai up to the Cell saga at that point. Pretty much. For all we know, Drummond finished his lines (it was the end of Cell by the way), but it is possible they have not finished lines for characters such as Goku or Gohan since they probably have new actors. I have a feeling the actors reprising their roles probably were doing their lines long before the new actors since actors like McNeil and Drummond have a good sense of who their characters are and what direction they are taking them in. But that is all speculation. If anything, they just need to voice background characters or something insignificant or music/sfx need to be done/replaced.I think he thinks they're done. Like he recorded the last episode of the Cell arc, and the producers told him that it was done...which, at the time, would have been true, but is true no longer.

I just want a little sneak peek of an episode or a clip or something.
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

If this is the case, I'd be okay with it. Yes Dale Wilson is an awesome VA, but his Cell is just... no. His first form sounds like an impersonation of Clarke's Cell with Strep throat, his second form, admittedly, is better than even Clarke's Kai performance, although it is a little generic, and his perfect form sounds more like a game show host than an ultimate android who believes he's God's gift to Earth, so to speak.Kirbopher wrote:in which case Dale wasn't asked to even re-audition for his role, which is unfortunate; he's a cool guy.

So, I, uh, I bumped into Scott McNeil on my walk home from work today. I won't get too specific but he frequents a place not too far from the studio I work at. We had a brief chat/introduction/whatnot.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the foresight to ask him anything pragmatic and can only really reaffirm things we already know.
I asked him what he had worked on lately, and he mentioned a few things among which was "just finished Dragon Ball Kai". Namek is being pronounced with an "ah" sound, he referred to the dub as having "the original cast"; it's safe to say that was pretty general since we already know some actors aren't returning, but I want to say that it might also mean that characters whose voices we don't know yet, could very well be reprised by their former Ocean actors.
There's a fairly decent chance I'll run into him again given the conditions so I might still have the chance to learn some more.
...Didn't occur to me until just now; I lamented not having my camera with me, but I did have both my phone and 3DS which I could have used...dang it.

Is it safe to assume Saiyan will still be pronounced 'Say-yan' in this dub even though they've gone and corrected Namek/Namekian?ErikB wrote:So, I, uh, I bumped into Scott McNeil on my walk home from work today. Would be nice if they pronounced saiyajin instead of say-yan

I didn't even think about that, and he didn't mention it. I'd expect so though; I think "say-yan" is just far too ingrained in the English-speaking fanbase for anybody to want to use the proper pronunciation for fear of alienating people.

True, don't doubt that. I wonder if that came up with FUNimation/Sabat when they were deciding what to do with Kai.ErikB wrote:I didn't even think about that, and he didn't mention it. The Dragonball franchise is just a big endless cycle of regurgitation anyway. How many years have we had games covering the same story? How many re-releases have we seen? Dragonball SD is just a manga retelling, and Kai is just another rehash.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Well shit, you're right. Congrats to FUNimation for inventing time travel!
I mean, apart from Neko Majin (f that counts?), Battle of Gods, the JSAT and Episode of Bardock (and now Jaco) we haven't actually had anything properly new for like 17 years. The franchise is a like giant ouroboros that wont be satisfied until it's eaten it's own head.

Dragonball Online doesn't count....Uh...Dragon Ball Heroes is different, I guess. We also got the crossovers and we're getting that new chapter thing or whatever, so it's not too bad.Blade wrote:The Dragonball franchise is just a big endless cycle of regurgitation anyway. Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Dragonball Online is a bit of a grey area, as had the game seen a wider release and it's story-line received more attention in any official Dragonball publications, it could have constituted as a genuine expansion upon the franchise. Essentially, though, it just petered out and its storyline and any in-game events seem confined purely to the game itself, and appear to be totally independent from the main thread of the franchise.TheAldella wrote:Dragonball Online doesn't count....Uh...Dragon Ball Heroes is different, I guess. To me, Heroes is just a more expansive, original take on rehashing existing story-lines and characters - but then again so was Shin Budokai: Another Road.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
DBO & DBH, while they have an original story & characters, they have those new characters going back in time to the events of the manga & anime respectively. So, you have the same old story even inside the new stories.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Will this have a replacement score? If so... why? Honestly i can't see Kai working well with Megaman music
