IIRC there was a reanimated shot of Gohan's face for a few seconds when he was flying home.Flame Dragon wrote:It could have been much worse imo, i'm still glad we're getting Buu Saga Kai. Better to get it cheaply done than to not get it all.
So, is it confirmed we're not getting reanimated scenes? Maybe this episode had no reanimated scenes for what we know, and next episodes will have some.

Are you sure? I've watched the episode around four times now and have yet to spot anything like that.Gonstead wrote: IIRC there was a reanimated shot of Gohan's face for a few seconds when he was flying home.

Is it just me or does the picture resemble the Season set Blu-Rays very closely now? Yuck.
I might be in the minority but I'm digging the music thus far.

Looking back at it now, yeah I don't think it was a reanimated shot. Must of confused me because of the crap quality when I was watching the episode.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Are you sure? It was the shot of his face before Gohan changes into his Saiyaman outfit while riding Kinto-Un.

Re: Buu Saga Kai
The lack of retraced scenes is a good thing, though, right? Aside from maybe that one after the Raditz fight that "corrected" the colors on Vegeta's armor, I remember the redrawn cuts being pretty unanimously hated. That's one area in which Kai's low budget pleases me.
The MIDI-style music, though, is something that I simply cannot wrap my brain around. Dragon Ball's nearly always had an orchestra. I keep telling myself that we're only at the first episode and that we've only just begun to see what's inside Sumitomo's "bag of tricks," but I don't think I can handle this arc if we get too many more tracks with the same arrangement style as the preview music.

I hear the newer ones filter out the energy drink commercials.

I know this really doesn't matter. But, apparently the sponsor cards aren't just screen shots from the end credits...
The two sponsor cards are on the left and all the variations of that particular part of the end credits are on the right. Again, this really isn't anything major, or anything worthwhile but hey, I noticed it, I figured I'd share...

I just hope that the NEP theme isn't used in the series itself as a "heroic main theme" such as the instrumental Cha La and Dragon Soul.

After watching episode 1, I've almost lost my enthusiasm for this. I don't know, but I don't think that I will sit in front of the TV every week. Maybe the overall cheapness turned me off such greatly.

Somewhat. It isn't as oily, over-saturated and doesn't have those random remaining splotches of grain.jjgp1112 wrote:Is it just me or does the picture resemble the Season set Blu-Rays very closely now? Yuck.

I don't think it's anything like the Season Sets. The line art doesn't look like it's smudged and fading away nor does everything look like a watercolour painting.Metalwario64 wrote:Somewhat. It may have a slight green tint but at least it doesn't look like this or this.
It's not the greatest remaster in the world but jeez, it's nowhere near as bad at those Blu-rays.
And again, we're comparing 720p TV broadcasts/Rips/Encodes to fully fledged releases.

I love Dragonball, but you know what? I think if you're going to produce a streamlined remaster like Kai, it should either be done properly - or not at all.
I do not subscribe to the 'more Dragonball is a good thing regardless of how it comes' notion. Quality over quantity any day, and really, after the domestic under performance of the original Kai broadcast and the muted reception it received, I think shoveling out an even more half-arsed attempt second time around can only be damaging for how the franchise is percieved.
Toei refer to Dragonball as an 'evergreen franchise', but by mistreating it like this, they truly threaten to kill it at its roots.

No matter how bad it is (it's not) anything is better then sitting through all that filler

Agreed! I would rather take a cheaply produced version of DBZ that cuts all the filler out than a big budgeted filler adaptation.sintzu wrote:No matter how bad it is (it's not) anything is better then sitting through all that filler

Re: Buu Saga Kai
Filler wasn't Z's problem. Good filler can enhance a story's characters and its worlds.
The problem is that it was made with the mindset of "slow down as much as we can for the manga" instead of "how do we actually adapt this material and make it a good show." Because it did this, it could never establish a continuous flow for long, which made enjoying the show very very hard.
I haven't seen Kai for a while, but as I've said before, I have to wonder if its lazy approach somehow cancels out Z's lazy approach and makes for a better show.

Re: Buu Saga Kai
I'm still excited for the eventual dub and Sumitomo's music doesn't bother me, I like it! But, I liked his BoG work too. The iffy recap theme doesn't bother me, maybe it's because of the old dub and the synthesized Falcouner Prod. score. But I'm not bothered by it like most seem to be. Plus, Buu having the Kai treatment nice, at least to cut down the filler. Seems to be a problem with all long running Shonen shows. Would like to see something similar for One Piece, Naruto, etc. y'know, without it being super cheap.
