The Best of Vegeta DVD Overview - It Exists!
Most people on this forum thought this DVD was cancelled... But I've seen four of them here at my local Walmart for at least a year, totally untouched. Go figure.
Here are some pics:
The disc is 7.43 GB in size. The episodes featured are 53, 64, 130, 157, 236, 270, and 281, where Vegeta is pitted against Zarbon, Recoome, Android 19, Semi-Perfect Cell, Majin Buu, Super Buu, and Kid Buu respectively. The video footage looks to be sourced from the Orange Bricks. If I didn't know better, I'd say that these versions of the episodes are encoded much worse; rampant macroblocking and noise on top of the problems this remaster already has. Someone who knows better about this stuff (and still has the Orange Bricks) would probably be a better authority though. For setup, English Dialogue with Japanese Music 5.1 Surround Sound and Original Japanese Mono are available, with optional subtitles. The DVD opens with a trailer for One Piece: Season Five, Voyage Two and there are also some trailers for other stuff. Anything else people wanna know?

It'd be easier to say for sure if you posted some demonstrative screenshots.Kuwabara wrote:...I'd say that these versions of the episodes are encoded much worse; rampant macroblocking and noise on top of the problems this remaster already has. Is there any specific way I should go about it? Are screenshots saved in MPC okay?

Media Player Classic? It's what I use. Just make sure they're properly resized to 853x480 pixels, since MPC only exports to the stored 720x480 as far as I know.

I have Photoshop 6 and IrfanView, if that helps.

In Irfanview, go to Image > Resize/Resample, and then set the resolution to 853x480. Then you can save it as a PNG.

See? Told ya people thought it was canceled!
But man, poor Vegeta. Even on his own "Best Of" DVD, they had to stretch it and include one of the Vegetto episodes.

I think the next time I see one of these Best of Vegeta sets I'll have to pick it up, because I never knew it got cancelled and the last time I remember checking they were quite plentiful at my Wal-Mart and Best Buy. It's actually kind of shocking to me that everyone here thought it was cancelled, considering this topic and the other one I was reading through last night or some time yesterday.

Check out this screenshot from the Best Of Vegeta DVD compared to the Double Feature release of Movie 1, hopefully this gives you a good idea of what I'm talking about.
Double Feature Movie 1:

Best Of Vegeta:

Some more screenshots from Best Of Vegeta:

It's like every frame was saved as a badly compressed .jpg. I'm reminded of very early DVDs, or even the grain wipe in the Blu-ray Seasons, though it isn't quite the same. Every episode on the disc is like this. The trailers for other shows look better than the main content of the DVD.

Here's the Orange Brick shot for comparison:Kuwabara wrote:![]()

It does seem to have more compression. I actually saved my shot as a high quality JPEG, and it still looks better.
I guess they just phoned it in since they new it was a cheap release.

Thanks for the pics! I can't really notice the compression on my CRT, but it stuck out right away on my laptop.

Did they ever say why they didn't do a wide release for this and the Goku set ?
It'll be interesting to see how they handle a best of Yamcha set if they decide to do these for the other characters.

July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: The Best of Vegeta DVD Overview - It Exists!
Not sure why there wasn't a wide release, I guess FUNimation didn't want to flood the market? I've seen this particular DVD at local Walmarts and Best Buys for a while, though that doesn't seem to be the case nationwide.
A Best Of Yamcha DVD would undoubtedly have to dip into Dragon Ball for some fights, he gets shat on a lot in Z.

I don't understand the point of a release like this. No offense to anybody who owns it, but how can you put in a few episodes of DB on there? If you want to put in Vegeta vs Goku, that's several episodes. Do all of those get put in there?
If they wanted to do this, I'd personally make it into a documentary using the voice actors, director, etc. where they discuss those fights and then for bonus footage, put in the entire fight (minus some irrelevant scenes in between).

It's not for you. It's for the budget bin at Walmart. It's brand exposure and cheap merchandise to expand the audience to fringe members and introduce it to newbies. What you're describing is a premium product aimed at existing fans, which is entirely the opposite of what they're doing with these "Best Of" releases.TheGreatness25 wrote:I don't understand the point of a release like this. I also see it as a best of sorta release. It's a fun little thing for people to collect as well. Plus it's got cool cover art
