Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.
Know that this might be a old topic to bring back, but:
Spoiler:
Anyone cares to explain why Gohan was so skinny in this movie?
Considering that he was like this in less than a year before:
Spoiler:
I know that "hurr durr gohan don't trains anymore" but could they atleast use logical sense? I don't see how somebody bulky as he was in BoG could lose so much weight in in such a short time
Are we too old to enjoy new Dragon Ball movies/series?
Spoiler:

Guys, I'm going to be straight with you. If you feel the show has gotten 'silly' ... it hasn't. You're just 'too old for this shit'. Seriously, 95% of the people in those boards do not fit the target demographic of the show, so don't expect the show to be 'everything you hoped for'. I'm referring to the people here who expect Super to be rich with dark moments, serious storytelling, meaningful characters etc etc. It won't. It's a show for kids. A show for kids being kids. Everyone in those boards has a manchild in him/her, clamoring to get out, and that's fine. But having unrealistic expectations (such as believing the show grew up alongside you) is naïve at best. Honestly, do you take seriously a story where the supposed God of Destruction halts his urges to blow up stuff in order to eat ice cream sundae? That's the show's silliness at full force, take it for what it is. The show hasn't matured one bit, so don't expect it too. Again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm saying *that* is DB and always will be.
Ignoring the fact that it's based on Toriyama's current art style: artistic license.
He very well may still be that buff in-universe, but the nerd suit wouldn't have looked as good if he was still ripped. This is why I don't always take visuals literally.

Jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick! This storyboard book is the best thing ever. Yamamuro's art is humorously better here than his actual key animator or character designs. I'll post pictures in a little while.

Sounds really good. Looking forward to it! :3
Also curious if Yamamuro's storyboard is closer to the style he had back in Z.
They tried to deliver my Limted Edition copy of the "F" Blu-ray today (which I wasn't expecting based on the estimated delivery), but it wouldn't fit in the mailbox because of the damn poster that came with it. So I have to wait till tomorrow to grab it. It'll be first thing tomorrow, too. I really want to look through the storyboards and I'm also curious if the disc has the settei for the film on it as a special feature, like Battle of Gods did.

OH! Interesting. Confirmation that Yamamuro's Freeza is in-fact wearing a speedo with his armor? lol
Spoiler:
Also, I looked back over Toyotaro's manga adaption of "F". "Chidoru" (Beta!Sorbet) and Beta!Tagoma appear as random mooks in Freeza's army. Nice little nods.

That's my point. (Speedo with his armor, as in the battle jacket, not his natural armor.) There have been debates prior to this as to whether the black speedo Freeza wears is part of his body or part of his outfit. I don't know how Toriyama feels on the matter, but it seems Yamamuro thinks the speedo is part of his clothing.

Oh, I see, I see. I thought you meant he was wearing clothes in the storyboard. Ack!
Hmm... I guess I would read a DB comic drawn by Yamamuro. It seems to have everything everybody likes about Toyotarou, but with a little more fluidity and personality.

Anyway, a few pictures. I think Kei has posted the juiciest parts, although I haven't gotten around to reading the whole thing.
Were the ones Kei posted the ones from earlier in this thread or something newer that hasn't been posted in the thread? I ask because his twitter account is set to private. I don't have a twitter account myself so I don't know how that works in terms of getting to see anything that may not have been posted in this thread.
Wait, so Tagoma wasn't supposed to die so early on in the film? That probably explains why it felt so weird having him on the damn poster of the film. They had him on the poster back when he was thought to be in the film for longer.
It also explains why Shisami didn't receive much billing earlier despite being one of the more prominent Freeza soldiers in the movie itself. That's a truly interesting thing to find out.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

The biggest reason is that, across the board, Toriyama's current art style has tended towards minimal, cartoon-esque drawings with stick-like limbs. If you haven't already, be sure to check out 'Jaco: The Galactic Patrolman' or take a look at some of Toriyama's character design sheets for both Battle of Gods and Resurrection F.
The gist is that it's fairly apparent that Toriyama doesn't have an agenda to deliberately slim-down Gohan. Yamamuro, for some reason or other, has just decided to stick fairly closely to Toriyama's design for Gohan in the film.

Compared to the past designs of the Buu arc Gohan, I don't think he has enough muscle mass in the film itself.
Jelo Gutierrez Cantos(Dr. Fresh) I'M GONNA BREAK YOU, LIKE A KIT-KAT BAR!! - TFS Goku. (have a Break, have a Kit Kat Freeza!)
Looking through the storyboards, it's interesting to see which portions of the movie were drawn before Toriyama finished everything. A lot of the sub characters (Bluma, Gohan, etc) have at least one section where they use a design from BOG or before.
Tenshinhan is actually drawn with a completely new outfit before the BOG one shows up. It features the half shirt he used in the Cell Arc (prior to the Cell Games), but it's got a "skirt" on it like Goku's dogi. Though the design of the skirt varies wildly. Sometimes it's a "full skirt" like Goku's at the End of Z, other times it's a "half skirt" like Uub's. Sometimes it ends around his crotch, other times it looks longer.

Other than Tenshinhan's new, unused look, most curious to me is Golden Freeza. Consistently throughout the first half of the fight, in the panels that have detail dedicated to them, he's drawn without his "dark gold" pants (maybe the arms too, it's harder to tell the intention there). I wonder if this was for sake of ease, or if Freeza actually had a beta design as well.
Also, I kinda enjoy that the "Story Boad" typo made it through to the final release. xD
