I have heard some interesting things, but some of it may not be relevant and exactly fully DBZ related...

Although, one of the funniest things I have seen when it comes to someone talking or asking questions about DBZ is a person asking who would win in a fight Vegeta or Edward Cullen.

Any time someone says that something in the franchise is "non cannon."
That extra "n" bugs me so much that I tend to ignore what they were saying to begin with.

Still, though, you have to admit that tends to be true. Blooma fighting a crab is, in fact, not a cannon.

The Galactus thing was a bit crazy for sure. The page he brought up where Thor was actually able to hurt him was interesting though. I don't know how weakened Galactus was at that point.

I don't have a problem with people who don't consider GT anything of serious value, although denying it seems a bit far.

This thread all in all seems to be really negative though, a thread about how dumb people are of silly is just meh...

Nah, "Dragon Ball GT doesn't exist" or "Dragon Ball GT is fake" is much, much dumper.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

GT never happen in the manga though. I can see why people would say that since GT was never created by the original author.

I can see what they mean. Maybe they aren't saying it properly but basically they are saying Dragonball GT isn't on the same level as the story done by the original author. I don't see a problem with that. I don't consider GT canon imo.

Assuming it's the old Thor comic where he drove Galactus away with the God Blast, that was a starving Galactus on the verge of eating a planet. I'd have to see the issue to be sure though. Full power Galactus has never been beaten by anything other than other high level cosmic entities, like IG Thanos, or the combined strength of Tenebrous and Aegis.

I love when I get to bring my inner Marvel fanboy out. :P

The God Blast is an attack from the hammer. It channels all of his power through Mjolnir and amplifies it.
Regardless, a full powered Galactus has never been beaten by anything short of omnipotence.

God Blast is an attack from the hammer? Nice to know that. But he just threw the hammer at him, I would expect some beam of energy to come out of the hammer while he's holding it?

But yea I expect Galactus was super weak at that point as well.

Wasn't the Phoenix force enough to oppose and even overthrow him.

The Phoenix force is omnipotent. And it has never faced a full power Galactus, only a starving one.

To be fair, the energy output of characters by the end of DBZ (I'm talking in, like, joules here) is probably unparalleled in terms of mortal characters with "normal" physical bodies across the fictional universe.

Depends on what you mean by "normal" physical bodies. There are omega level mutants in Marvel that easily overpower DB characters, and they are biologically human. Most of the Marvel "gods" like Thor are actually advanced alien races; not gods, per say. I'm not as sure about the DC characters, but the greatest Green Lanterns are capable of stalling Superman; something that Goku couldn't dream of doing.

DB characters are tough, but they are not top tier powers when taking into account other fictional universes.

The greatest Green Lanterns could probably beat Superman. The Flash could destroy Superman with his connection to the speed force.

I remember one DBZ fanboy claim that SSj4 Gogeta can beat the Bible God and he was serious about it too. I never get why DBZ fans need to fan wank characters at a point that they start making stuff up. DBZ is already powerful enough already since Kid Buu almost blow up the whole earth with a ki blast that is a size of a football before Goku stop it.

See, this is what I'm getting at, though.

I think Goku at the end of Z could whoop Superman in a slug-fest, and I also think he could vaporize Superman with a ki blast - even though physical strength and the ability to shoot plasma out of your hands are merely two specific superpowers. I mean, if we include stuff like New 52 (I have no idea what is canon and what is not anymore in the western comic world), then yeah, Superman can lift some odd number of SEXTILLION TONS...but let's not forget that the strength of Superman and other comic book heroes varies greatly between works. Goku and the rest of the Z fighters have certainly not had the kind of continuous supplementary power boosts that a lot of comic characters have through constant reinventions and plot points. Goku, especially, just trained.
